Well they mostly do it because they aren't allowed to buy games(parents). If you try to get a game through steamgifts, the chance of actually getting is near to impossible.(not impossible, but takes a lot of time)

I've bought over 300 games in the last year without using a bank account or credit card. It's easy to make money online through various sites, phone apps and by selling card drops.

Haha yeh, that does help quite a bit. Don't blame us, blame the advertising companies! They're the ones footing the bill for pretty much all of it (except cards of course).

Yeh, regional restrictions suck for sure. I'm restricted on quite a few US-only things (since I'm from Canada), but it's nowhere near as bad as most of the world.

Never heard of these websites, can you say some names?

Easier to just link you to my thread :)
As some have mentioned above, some methods may or may not work depending on where you live.

not everyone can afford a game, even during summer sale. or maybe they missed sale on that game. (source: personal experience)

Doesn't make begging OK. This isn't food or shelter, it's videogames.

I used to get money from those pay-to-click sites (I think that's the name) before I got a credit card and I missed some sales too. Not a lot of money for games here, but I never had to beg. What I did was do something to get the money (those PTC sites for example), wait for a sale and buy the game. That's why I can't get why people beg, it makes me think that those guys are lazy/just want an easy way to get games. Just my opinion though

For the same reason why people sit on streets and beg for money. Because it works.
You'll get 100 people saying screw you, but then you'll find one who'll decide to give it to you. Have one guy on my friend list, he begged me whole day to get DayZ. Told him truth - I'm too broke to buy that game. Next day, he had it on his account.
Once read about a guy who made street begging into his work, was able to get $5000 monthly.

There are some panhandlers in the US who earn well into the 6 figures.

In my experience, there are generally three types of begging.
1) Begging done by friends or family when they need some temporary help. This is usually limited in both scope and what is asked.
2) Begging done by those who are "down and out." This is usually done out of necessity and desperation.
3) Begging done by people who simply want what you have. These people usually have no real need for that which they are seeking.
Out of those three categories, the third is the most persistent, the most demanding, and the most annoying. They beg in the hopes that their begging will eventually wear you down and you will give them something simply to make them go away. The sad thing about this kind of begging is that it achieves results better than any other method, hence why some people do it.
Professional beggars fit into the third category while attempting to appear as if they are from the second category.

So...
I was thinking with myself, and I can't understand why one should add a random person to their friend list and beg for games. I don't have that much money but I have quite a lot of games from bundles, thats enough for me.
Like, a random guy see something on your inventory, add you and beg for that card/game, what are the chances of you giving the item for them? We already have SteamGifts, which is a excellent way to get free games.
Can someone with more experience with beggars why they beg games?
I'm not sure if this kind of discussion is allowed, because it may be a little polemic. But my curiosity got the best of me
