Not really; as long as you have their trade URL it works just fine without being friends (given that the inventory is not private or the account limited).

Well, when I tried to send coupon via tradelink, it didn't appear in my inventory in trade screen but it appeared when I opened trade window with someone who was on my friendlist.

Ok, that's really weird, I've never heard of an item to appear in a trade only when you do trades with friends.
I have a considerable amount of trades on a daily basis (involving coupons), most of them being with people that are not on my friends list, and I never saw this case. It's good to know that this is also a possibility. Unless the first time (when you tried to send it to the non-friend), Steam failed to properly load your inventory (it happens to me often)?
If not... I find it weird that the trade URL that someone uses can have an impact on the actual trade. There are 2 types of trade URLs: one used for friends and one public. They differ only in the fact that the public one needs a token at the end of the URL ("&token=ENns58QE").

You simply had your inventory set to show specific items -- for coupons set it to "all" or "coupons".

I get rid of almost all those useless coupons through trade links of non-friend users.

I'm not sure if it works on the standard edition, but the coupon states "50% OFF Civilization VI - Digital Deluxe" which is the $80 version (bringing it down to $40)

I have one too, but already have the game. Some prefer Civ4 or Civ5 (each CivFan has his favorite), but I still think Civ6 is awesome.

trading is not allowed on the steamgifts forum - hence the silly offer the person made in jest to you (which we all do when these trades come along :P) - try steamtrades.com or give the coupon away for free is allowed - mods have been known to suspend for trading here now :)
note - all the others saying send trade offer for a free coupon
