Can Canada gift to the US still? I know I can't gift to my friends in Europe anymore, but it would be pretty stupid if we couldn't give to our neighbours. 0.o

IIRC if the price difference is over %10 you can't.

I had issues gifting to a US person and had to use Humble Bundle, so yes, the price difference is over 10% on some stuff.

EDIT: Doesn't need to be said, but yes, I am a Canadian.

EDIT 2 : Oh, this showed up on the forums page for some reason, and it's a day old. Hmm...

No we cannot. The default Steam price for us is +10% US price. Since our dollar is so low, the difference is over 20%, which is beyond the 10% limit. You need to buy games from 3rd party retailers in order to gift to US peeps.

Depends on game to game basis. You gotta check if game in country X os more than 10% expensive. Some may be some not.

What do you mean by tag? You search any game you wish at top of steamdb page, then click prices tab and see if us or other countries are 10% above yours. For EU-US you are mostly safe. EU is in general more expensive than US so you will be able to gift to US.ppl, but US.may not be able to gift to you. Exception are games which are not priced 1:1 like games that cost 60usd but only 50eur. These you will not be able to gift to us ppl.

Wait, you mean EVERY GAME with the 10% diff pricing on steam store are potentially ungiftable on steamgifts? (i don't think the region restriction filter in gift creation form can cover that easily). This is getting a little out of control...

only if pricing diff is up, you will be able to gift a game to countries where it is cheaper than yours, even if difference is bigger than 10%, you wont be able to gift to countries where game is 10% more expensive. and yes, current region restriction filters do not cover these changes, staff stated they are working with cg on changes adressin these new rules, but nothing present yet. thats why you should avoid making public GAs with steam gifts at all or now, stick to small GAs where ppl will read description and not enter if they are from country X and where just in case they did ignore description they will simply agree to reroll.

Same problem in South America. Brazilians cant gift for Argentina and maybe others neighbours.
The South America region retriction filter need update or a new option.

The whole system is a nightmare, best to buy your keys elsewhere from now on and save the hassle.

Yup you can gift but not be gifted.
Of course it also depends on the game; over %10 percent cheaper in your region; can't send the gift.

I think you're incorrect. A lot of games are cheaper in the UK, especially the AAA games.

This new gifting is so stupid that one cannot send a gift for a game that is not available in a region or has a different ID (i.e. low violence version, language restricted versions, etc)

I didn't even know about this until I read this.
Definitely not happy about this, I'm UK based, so I think plenty of gifts will be null for me :/

This is what happens when Valve has no real competition they can keep locking stuff down more and more as it will have little impact as people will still use Steam.

I was never a big trader so this impacts me little but that does not mean I like the changes.I will do all the shopping I can outside of steam from now on.What annoys me the most is the 10% rule. What the point of having a global platform to make global friend's and the most basic function of gifting games is so gimped that you might as well removed it.

You can get around this if you want but it can be more of a pain depending on who your want to get the game for which is give them a market item they can sell for around the price of said game so they can purchase it themselves.Though this really ruins the surprise of gifting a game to a friend on the whim.

This is an absolute shame, I was looking forward to get the gift of games from my Russian trader friends, that I only send back a small monetary gift through other means is only courtesy, of course.

I am confused after reading some messages.
Let me give you an example and let's check if I'm right?

Let's say there is a game called "The Game" and it's prices are like this

Italy: $70
France: $95
Turkey (me): $100
Canada: $105
UK: $130

I can gift to Canada and France since price diff is less than 10%.
I can't gift to Italy since their prices are too low and diff is higher than 10%.
I can't gift to UK since their prices are too high and diff is higher than 10%. I'm not sure about this one, things get messy here
Am I correct?

Also what happens if a game is 90$ in Country1 and 100$ in Country2? Country1 can't gift to Country2 but Country2 can gift to Country1?
