With S.A.M. (Steam Achievement Manager)

Not sure if that's the latest version though so you might wanna google it yourself.

Weird... Tbh I never used S.A.M. to unlock or remove achievements, just for idling when I was on a computer that couldn't run ASF or Idlemaster so I'm afraid I can't be of much help there.

I just heard that it can also be used to remove achievements.

They will go away, but as soon as you open the game again, they will be back, unless you did something wrong.
But do note, that Steam doesn't allow such programs, doubt they actually care, but you COULD get problems from it

I see. So OP should be fine as long as he doesn't open the "game" again.

As I said all of my achievements are legit ;) (as you can probably tell by the rookie numbers) I just briefly used it to simulate playtime to idle cards when I was using an old computer that couldn't run ASF or Idlemaster.

Yeah, this was more like a combined answer to you and the OP, maybe I should have responded to him instead ^^
I never used ASF so know nothing about that, all I know is that SAM should be able to remove them just fine and they should stay away until you get the achievements again

No worries ;)

I just wanted to point it out because I take teeny-tiny bit of pride in all of them being legit and from real games :D

I can understand that, I am like that as well ^^
Though I have some spam achievement games as well, though I did enjoy them so I guess they still count as 'real' games in that case? :P

He, we all play by our own rules so if you enjoyed them why shouldn't they count ;)

One of my 100% games was a visual novel (Sword of Asumi) and those are not particularly challenging neither if you're just willing to put the time in.

They will not count on astats.nl anymore if they bust you.

Now I'm confused. Bust me playing visual novels the shame alone is punishment enought ^^ or doing what? :D

Or did you mean bust somebody unlocking achievements via S.A.M. because the playtime or whatever doesn't check out?

That generally is how it works, maybe for some spam games they do get unlocked again.

I click reset then they all add up, but when I save they come back again

So I've used SAM before to reset achievements so I can do them again but I hadn't run into this 'issue' myself until playing The Flame in the Flood recently. Some games may have their own file that tracks some achievement data. I wanted to do an achievement over in the game but it automatically unlocked again when I started a new game even though I had reset the achievement with SAM. It was because the game uses an "Achievement.sav" file to record achievement-related data. So in order to re-do this achievement I wanted I had to remove that file so it generated a new one, though of course the problem is that doing so would also essentially reset partial progress made towards other certain achievements as well, so I only did it temporarily. It's possible whatever game you are playing may have implemented something similar.

edit: I just realized you said it's one of those achievement spam games. I would look for any local files the game has stored and delete them.

Oh wow, I have no idea then I'm sorry. I don't grab those achievement spam games even when they are free. Don't want that kind of thing in my library. I wonder what happens to the achievements if you delete the game from your library?

I would contact Steam support and open a ticket and see what they can do. Maybe they can remove the achievements for that app?

I emailed the developers now I'm waiting

I guess it can't hurt to try but I wouldn't really expect help from them. I mean you are talking about a developer who is arguably crossing some kind of ethical line by creating a 'game' designed specifically to do this kind of achievement spam garbage.

Hey, you used the wrong category. It should be Off-Topic as it is neither a bug nor a suggestion related to Steamgifts.

What about removing the game?

I think I have this game from using madjoki's site's script to add store freebies, but I never unlocked any achievements, perhaps because I never launched it. I know some games have auto-cheevos that spawn the moment steam detects it at running, I even tried removing those before but alas XD

Just checked the store page because I was having a hard time believing it. But yeah, 5000 cheevos. Dafuq. O_o
How come there's no cap for achievements?

5,000 is the cap I'm pretty sure.

If you're wondering why it would be so high, there are actually some games (not many of course) which legitimately have that many achievements. Meaning, each achievement is individually unlocked by actually doing something in the game.

DLCs let that go even higher. ToME, for example. Just look at the number of achievements on that one. And they're legit 😛

5,000 was the "new" cap, there were games with even more than that. For example

That is now an old cap. 100 is the new cap. Games can get more than 100 only if the game leaves steam is learning/profile limited status.

Games that can leave that status usually legit games so they are not interested to add spam achievements.

Bye bye Achievement Simulator(s) 2018! May you (and your "developer") burn in Tartarus for all eternity.

Congratulations on another second, stlpaul!

I dunno, though.. "Which'll end first, my ability to earn achievements or my time" strikes me as a rather heavier topic than most games touch on. Maybe it's just that the true worth of that "game" lies in its meta? :P

Legit or not, I really don't get why a developer would include so many achievements. I mean, for people who are into 100%-ing their games, that must be a nightmare. O_o I'm glad I'm not an achievement hunter.

This game unlocks all achievements as soon as game started. As SAM keeping the game open while operating, that means all achievements unlock again automatically as soon as you relocked them.

No personal experience, but I remember I seen a topic like this on astats or on some other forum a year ago.

This means you can't get rid of those achievements. The publisher of this game is a tard tho. Their games had only 1 achievement on each game then raged that not enough sales and changed all to 5k.

I really hope for a future valve patch which will affect achievement profile numbers, just like game count. If the game no longer on steam store then earned achievements not counts to total stats, neither to perfect game count and neither to AVGC. As valve getting rid slowly these achievementspam games the numbers would be fixed that way.

Also, avoid using SAM for achievement unlocks. Achievement tracker sites likely will catch you. If you want to show off with numbers to nonachievement lover they not going to care. If you going to show off to those who like achievements... well, they will see that the achievements were faked. Additionally, valve tracks a lot of information, who knows if using it not backfire once (i hope it will once, so SAM cheaters will suffer:-D)

But perfect games, achievement wise, already don't already count with removed games.

For me:
Astats
146 games (total) completed 100%.
21 at 100% now removed from the store.

Steam: 118
