Hello guys,

I am giving away some games I've purchased and part of these games were purchased from humble bundle site.

While there's still plenty of time for claiming the win, I've stumbled onto a question I could not find answer for.

When someone wins my game, I usually create gift link directly on HB site and send it to users email. But what can I do if winner does not claim the gift and I will want to choose another winner? When I click option to "Give this link to your friend!" of once sent game, I get error message claiming I've already sent that gift. I did not find any option to re-create gift link or return the game to my "inventory" like I can do with any steam gift game.

Thanks for your experienced answers :)

So you have contacted their support and they told you they won't do it. Then how did you get the game back afterwards?

it was a back and forth about 8 times, tons of waiting. had to explain what was happening more then once. they reset the key somehow and i just sent it as a key over steam

You can just create a blank gift link without adding email leaving the winner ti add email address to claim.

Click the link and tag it to your email address. It the other party has tagged to their email address already, I think nothing you can do.

by "tag it to your email" you mean gifting it to myself and then give away the game key?

Yes, thats what he means.

So if the gift link is valid, just claim it for yourself, if not the winner claimed it, but didn't mark it.

Well the only thing is that winner could claim it but on different Steam account and then claim he did not receive it and I will be screwed.

Well this sucks ... I have been solving one issue when I have claimed GAME KEY directly on HB and winner did not claim the game. It took me long time to solve it with both Steam and here Steamgifts as local moderators are just terrible at their work. This happened with my first gib. Now if I imagine draggin another party in ... phew

Steamgifts as local moderators are just terrible at their work

maybe you would like to make a donation, $20?
$50 per month?

then we could all complain about volunteers spending their time dealing with someone else's problems. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

No.....you can complain without making donations....in fact, if you feel someone is doing a poor job, volunteer or not, you SHOULD speak out about it. If you don't then you actually don't care about the state of the community....In this case, I completely disagree with him, and feel moderators do a pretty decent job, considering how much they have to sort through....Not sure about the steam moderators.....but, though I disagree with him, it's still well within his rights to voice his opinion on the state of the site, and how it functions. At least in my opinion.

Well my complaint is generally not related to this issue. I have an open ticket for 2 months (okay, it will be two months tomorrow) about user that did not activated game he won from me and imagine that - one week ago that user re-gifted that game to someone else and helped himself to improve his contribution.

As you can see here, there are more than 30.000 open tickets regarding user reports. Some of these reach back years. The problem is not the quality of the mods, but their quantity.
There aren't enough volunteers to solve these.

To reduce the chance that something happens like you experienced in the future, you can add your winners on steam and give them your gift via Steamchat, reminding them that they are obliged to activate the key directly on their account. Most people are just not aware that they aren't allowed to re-gift something. Doing this would be the most helpful thing for this community, as you would teach another user about the rules of this site and would take some work off of the overloaded support crew.

As Mullins pointed out, these people do this for free in their free time and have to struggle with a non-achievable task.
I'm sure you would agree that is even more demoralizing, when their volunteer-work is considered "just terrible", just because they are horribly understaffed.

So if you want to help them and this site, it would be great if you would put in the extra work like described above, it would pay off for everyone else, too. Surely, there are people who can run around this site unpunished for these infractions, but it doesn't help, when we just wait and let support do all the work. Or better: It won't achieve anything.

Thanks for an exhaustive reply, sappyMA. These statistics sure are unfavorable and I will forward to help the site somehow. Cheers.

yes, i could also complain how i have to wait for a reroll over 20 minutes, but that doesn't make any sense. saying support does a terrible job is an overstatement, much as my exaggerated reply.

Maybe I would Mullins but I am used to give donations when I am satisfied with someone elses work. Still thanks for your opportune reply.

No, if you click the humble giftlink yourself you see either "This gift has been claimed" or "enter your email adress".

Anyways, if you are talking about the "BlackSmith HIT" giveaway, the winner has 7 days to redeem and mark the game.

Steamgifts Support are -as Mullins already said- volunteers. There are like 1000s of open user reports, because everyone reports anyone for everything. They are doing an amazing job.

winner did not claim the game

Do you mean redeemed, but not marked? Or did he just do nothing? In the later case just reroll after seven days. Happend to me before and my support tickets have been answered pretty fast...

Thanks for your reply Klapp.

As for BlackSmith HIT, I'm calm as it's a steam gift and there's an option to cancel gifting immediately and resending it a moment later to someone else. I was wondering about Arcanum game which is from HB. While winner still has plenty of time to redeem the game, he was online (and still is) and yet did no action so it brought my attention to "what if.."

As of SG support, my issue is enclosed in different reply and while I do understand 1k+ reports, two months is considerable amount of time for something so evident...

Well some people are online in SG or even in steam, but only on brwoser/mobile from work And have no possibility of redeeming a key until later.
I would not worry to much about stuff until it happens ^^.

And for tickets. User reports will stay in line for a pretty while (since there are many open tickets). Reroll requests or request recieved feedback (key redeemend but not marked) were answered in a matter or hours or at most days every time I opened one.

Luckily, along with your comment HB game was claimed minutes ago so my worries are over :) It might still be safer to claim CD key next time I do this.

Reroll tickets are strange.. I've gotta wait 7 days for reroll while I won a rerolled game yesterday and that reroll was done in 12 hours from original ending time. Strange but acceptable. Still think that waiting 2 months for solving clear report is too much (and the ticket is still untouched as we're speaking).

There are different kinds of reroll.
"not activated/marked after 7 days" is not the only one. There is "owns the game already", "aggreded to reroll for some reason" and "broke the rules recently / not in the group anymore" for which you don't have to wait 7 days.

And as I said. Userreports take their time. There are just to many of them (and too many of them piled up). Priority is given to other requests, since a reroll can not wait for weeks. A report can.
There is only a limited amount of moderators with a limited amount of time. If you are unsatisfied with the situation, you should apply to become a mod yourself. Then you can spent 20h/day answering user reports and the situation gets better.

PS: Userreports are often "duplicates" (many people reporting the same one for the same reason) or unjustified. They take way more time to look into, than a reroll or similar. In addition there are just so many. If a game gets given away on indiegala for example, maybe 20 people give it away, each triggering 30 user reports, so there are 600 new tickets...

Contact HB support, say that the gift was accidentally sent to the wrong account, ask them for a new key. They will revoke the old one, you get a new one, and you can get a new winner. Added bonus is that if the "winner" sold the key somewhere, he'll get a bad rep for dealing in stolen keys. :)

Thanks talgaby .. as usual, your reply seems to be one of the most reasonable I can get. Hopefully the problem will solve itself quickly with or without of HB support help :)
