Some have certainly been noticed by me only because of giveaways here in the forums.

hmmm yep, well I definitely find a lot of interesting games that way.
maybe do puzzle giveaways using the thing you want to promote as the main source of quiz answers for the puzzle, eg "what genre is this" and other aspects, they would have to look at it several times for sure then.

I made this one as an example: https://www.steamgifts.com/discussion/8ZdtE/small-puzzle-and-giveaway-for-fun-non-bundle-game

Well, I'd be doing it in forums at least, so more decent people at least and not just 'use a bot to enter and comment'.

See if you can get an article on more dedicated websites such as indiegames.com ?
Or maybe other bigger gaming websites are willing to do a review.

Give copys to lets players to play so its like a free ad, post about it on gaming forums remember to link to the game tho so people can see post about it on twitter and facebook . once the game is out write a review for it. be helpful on the forums of your game if your a reasonable enough guy people will tend to help advertise a lil or be more likely to tell friends. If I think of anything else i'll come back. =p

I tried to promote a game, i liked, here before. But think I did it too late, so it didnt get much interest (thread lasted 1 day i think), maybe you could start a thread 1-2weeks before it is going to be released?
I think some invite-only giveaways (any game will do) to entice people to look at your thread, and some public giveaways with link to your thread and info on the game in description would be good.
Also include links for gameplay/trailer videos and links to store page, so it will be easier for people to check out the game.
People also like polls, so make sure to include 1.

Not sure about other sites. But when I search for indie games, I normally search up certain tags im interested in from steam greenlight or steam store page.

Well, I really do like Fallen London, which is an interactive text-based browser game in the same universe as Sunless Sea. It has great writing (think ~Lovecraftian style kind of) and it's both dark and funny at times. It's also free, but has an action limit - after you do something you have to wait a few hours for your actions to recharge. But it has great writing and I recommend it to anyone who likes interactive fiction / victorian fantasy setting.
Wait... you had a question...
I'd write a thread about the game, make a giveaway there, show some cool stuff that you can do in the game or just say why you think that it's interesting/underrated. Also, posting a cool gif of something from the game to r/gaming can do wonders.

Create giveaways if games I loved went on sale, sometimes I buy them even fullprice if I'm really in love with the titles.. Or tell friends directly. Or talk about the game in my giveaway descriptions.. Or mention it when someone asks about cool games that we finished :)
But advertising games to a bigger crowd is not easy and most of the time remains unnoticed, for example if someone tries to advertise their indie game through a 4 week long GTA V public level 0 giveaway on here, I doubt they get as much attention or purchases as they were hoping for..

I just noticed this thread that was quite an effective way of promoting a game. If you got some ~15 minutes, do the puzzle and then head over to the next puzzle (questions) which are basically about the game he's giving away.. :)

I'll make a gameplay video and post it on youtube then make a giveaway.

A twitter and Facebook campain may be helpful as well.

Yes I have and followed plenty, then spread the word out from there. Social media is a great way to get word out on almost anything under the sun these days. I do twitter but not facebook, personal prefferences :)

Making a giveaway of the game or making a giveaway of other game but talking about your game? I'm asking in general.
Anyway, I was going to say what you already did. Ask about it on some forums. Maybe some specialized forums, like ARPG forums or something like that. Forums are for old schoolers nowadays, so maybe tweet about it ._.

Just added the game to my wishlist :).
Forum giveaways would probably be the best bet since we are active members who actually read ... most of the time :P.
Other than handing out keys to sites/streamers/etc, not sure there is much you can do :/.

In this community of course. I can't find examples though, if you just stick more time here, you can see featured giveaways. Usually they're either people too generous, or a game dev trying to promote his game. For exaple 2 years ago as I recall the devs of Guns of Icarus Online made a giveaway here with over 10k beta keys.

Getting some of the games artwork into the wild may be a good start, for example you could offer to make people custom forum banners / signatures using the game's assets.
People will see the artwork and say... What game is that from? Of course you would need the developers permission to use his assets.
Word of mouth is more powerful tool than any other kind of promotion, rather than people paying you for their signatures, you simply ask them to post about the game on their Steam feed or just tell 10 friends etc.

Hi everyone!
I would like to ask a question to this Steam community for knowing more about it. I know an indie game wich will release in a few weeks, but as you may notice a LOT of games are released now in Steam, giving less visibility. I have already seen in the steam forum of this game people saying "Wo this is cool, why I didn't see it before?" And well, I would like to find an answer to that question.
I think the game is cool too, with a good quality, and I think that if people see it they will find it cool too and spread the word.
Sooo the questions... Where would you talk about it? Where do you use to find new indie games? Did you do something similar for a game you like? Do you want just to tell something about this topic? Did you see another game that has made something for this?
If you want to tell something I will be very grateful.
And also of course, if you are interested and you like Action/RPG with more or less and "Anime Style" you can check it here!
Thanks for reading =)
