Hi,
I'm just wondering if programmable keyboard and mice will suffice for my needs below. Product descriptions on online shops aren't very clear. It looks to me that they only have hotkey buttons that can be programmed. What I need is for timed repetition. Example:

Mouse:
Click somewhere every 3 minutes.

Keyboard:
Ctrl+Tab or Alt+Tab every 3 minutes.

There is a need to do this somewhere that has macros blocked. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

I don't know if the macro blocking would cause an issue, but I've had a logitech G15 and an Alienware TactX keyboard that both had programmable buttons. Those buttons required you to run software on your computer in order to program them, but if you can run the software, you can setup repetition macros like you're requesting. Another option might be the program auto hotkey, but I've never really used it very much so I can't say for sure.

Edit: Also, I use a Razer Deathadder mouse that uses Razer Synapse software, that allows you to program a mouse click as well.

Thanks. Auto hotkey is blocked. I did also read about Synape and saw the Naga(and prolly other mouse) have recording function so I guess the only question is if these would count as a software or hardware macro. It seems software ones are blocked in my circumstance.

Unfortunately I think most, if not all "hardware" options use a software component to program the macro, so if you can't install the software, or that software is blocked somehow, you probably wouldn't be able to make use of the hardware side of things either. Without knowing specifics I couldn't tell you for sure one way or another. The only other option I can think of would be to set up some kind of physical repetition to click a mouse and hit a button combo. I've seen people make things using lego mindstorm kits and things like that. Might be an idea to look into if it's a feasible option.

I'm thinking the same thing. I'm researching keyboards with hardware macros but not that much info out there.

Regarding that Lego Mindstorm clicker, just found it on Youtube. Wow. I don't think I'll resort to a physical setup though.

Autohotkeys, how is it blocked? Do you have some software that prevents its execution?

EDit: What about powershell?

There is a service on the computer that basically ignores macro input. It disregards all of them and only reads physical keyboard and mouse movements.

Sigh..yes, I'm actually looking into powershell, batch or VBS but I was trying to avoid it. I'm not sure how this service is reading macros though. If I use sendkeys or something similar, it might end up still being blocked. Just soliciting ideas for now but thanks. :)

Edit: Stopping the service is out of the question as it has other purposes other than blocking macros.

Update: VBS sendkeys is also blocked. Just tried putting it up on task scheduler. Really hard to emulate a physical keystroke or physical mouse move

What kind (or name) of the service is it? We can try to google it and look for any ideas.
I know Avecto, a software that manages permisions on the computer and prevents some uses.
But at my company it doesn't disable autohotkeys. Perhaps it (and other programs) can be configured and allow some levels.

Good luck with this!

What is the application for this? What exactly are you trying to achieve?

That would be my guess too.

Happy Cake Day!

That's somewhat true. I'm too efficient in that I finish my tasks within half my shift. Sad part is rules say you have to keep Skype/MS Communicator/Slack sit there (on active) your whole shift despite that, hence the alt-tabbing.
