You could downgrade to a i5 2500k, almost the same thing, saves money.

Also can it run BF3 on Ultra or not? Just asking.

GFTO Shooter-Kiddy. No one plays Battlefield Singleplayer and in Multiplayer only a Retard would play on "Doesn't look better, but costs 200% more Performance"-Setting (aka Ultra).
And my Build can run everything on Max. Details no Problem. Seriously, most Americans are so damn stupid, its not even funny anymore :D

I would got for an i5 and 8gb of Ram.
An i7 won't land you better performance in games(Lucky to get 1-2fps more). Ram can help in general and is super cheap.

The only difference between an i5 and i7 is the hyperthreading i7 uses, but that is not for gaming honestly.
The i5 2500k or the i5 3570k should be fine.

I have one pc with i5, and one with i7... srsly, the i7 is really better for windows use, and I think taht its fair for the price, i5 has more loading time, and some games the map can load a bit slower to...
And think in future... buying an i7 today will make you buy only better graphic cards for a long time, dont needing to trade your processor for better performance.
Only my opinion...

Sandy Bridge CPUs don't benefit from triple channel memory like the 1st gen I7's. So don't get 3 Dimms. Go 2x 4gb or 2x8gb. 680 was almost made irrelevant by the 670 that nearly steps on its toes on every benchmark and can be had for $400. Could go with a better PSU too. Corsair/Seasonic/XFX, known quality brands for reliability. Overspent on the mobo too. Could get much better for the money...2/10, would not bang.

After reading the comments here, I'm convinced that the majority of SG knows shit about computers. Head on over to www.overclockersclub.com and ask in the forums there instead. Even the stupidest member there is 10x more knowledgeable than any of these guys.

Then how about you help him here then advertise the community you are from?

Yes, I can provide him with relevant information to help him make a decision, but in all honesty, he shouldn't go by the word of just one person, he should seek multiple opinions. I assume that's why he created a thread here, but sadly he chose the wrong place to do so.
