Is anyone else seeing massive problems with the new steam beta patch?

I am. Steam's fine connections fine just the code seems to think there is something wrong with the connection, which there isn't.

Steams betas never seem to go very well. That said I'm NOT taking part in it and my friends list is stuck in Offline mode.

Except people like me who aren't in the beta have the same problem. So that, like my gran, doesn't hold water.
