I have been subscribed for years and for the first time I'm a monthly subscriber so I don't know how these types of coupons work. I got a coupon for this month at $6 which I purchased but I noticed it doesn't automatically activate the current month's Humble Choice, does that mean I could pause instead and save the month I just bought at a discount for a bundle I actually want later?

It expires on the 28th of this month. You cannot use it for the next choice. Only this one.

I have recieved the same coupon because I paused my sub. Not sure if I'm tempted. lol.

I know the coupon expires on the 28th but I already purchased the month so I don't see how they could take it away after I paid for it, I guess they could revoke it and refund me which I was why I wanted to verify how it works just in case. I feel like I could just pause this month and keep the month just like if I was on a yearly subscription but again I'm not sure, I've never tried before.

You have to use the coupon at the purchase. Since you had already purchased it before, the coupon is of no use for you.

I understand that, the question is can I pause a month or do I have to use the purchased month THIS month.

It activates straight away - as the others have said, you can't use it for another month, you get two of the same month.

The way I understand OP's question is this: can they pause their subscription which they just bought and still use the month they bought next month instead of now?
