Sure it wasn't an impersonator?

Steam gifts can be refunded at any time, within 30 days from the purchase (although maybe they still need to be under 2 hours of playtime).
If it wasn't an impersonator, they could very well have refunded the wrong purchase.

By the way, you didn't censor all instances of the gifter's username (the one on the bottom in pic2 is still visible).

There's always this possibility, as unlikely as it might seem, it could happen even with high profile traders.

agreed - they already have waiting periods for things - so you think that all gifts should be free from issues by that point, beyond this I think that valve should either take the hit or come up with something better than the current fu$% up -- and yes it was the comments on your steam - you move fast there :)

if you send a gift to someone, and he activates the gift, you cannot refund anymore.

Does a clean profile imply high level/feedback or just a throwaway account used for scamming until it gets unclean and then moving to next one?

My plan is to get to lvl500 on Steam and lvl10 here, then I'm so going to scam some free games out of unsuspecting people!

There are a lot of resellers in the trading business, so maybe he also bought it from someone else. Did you try to talk to him?
By the way, there's a really known steamgifts user, with a lot of giveaways, that was giving away games that got revoked afterwards, so you can never know, no matter how trustworthy someone looks.

Nobody can help you then. Next time, always keep proof of your trades. For now, you can try to report him on steam with whatever proof you have and -rep him on steamgifts (if he's even a steamgifts user).

I could take a glance at the "scammer"'s profile, as OP didn't censor all instances of their name in the 2nd pic, and they had left a +rep comment on OP's Steam profile too (both are now removed). What I wrote here was based exactly on that.

Well, level 0, no games, no friends - it's obvious that he is a scammer. xD

That account is as suspicious as it gets: level 0, no games, no inventory, no friends, no comments, and a nice "trading account" line in the description... and it was created yesterday.
So, yeah, scammer confirmed, without a doubt.

Gifts are (relatively) safe only if traded, as in case of scams Steam support could reinstate your items... maybe.
But outside the Steam trade window, anything you do is your own responsibility, and Valve would just say "your fault, deal with it".

Tell HB sypport that the key doesn't work and if they could revoke it and give you another key. It's always worth a try. Some people were saying to do that if the winner of giveaway claims the key is invalid yet you're sure it should work and there is suspicion that they've activated it on another account or traded it and now trying to get another key to have a clean account.

Your Rust key could be traded further though and it will eventually disappear from somebody else's library.

But well do not worry, you have gained some good karma and some good experience from it!
Also I will make some whitelist GAs soon, and you're in it

he should be 100% sure that it was not an impersonator first, before giving -rep. and i don't get the impression he is experienced enough in trading to be absolutely sure.

it's not the matter that the guy isn't a scammer. he should be responsible for what he sold. it's not Nsan's fault.

Salt & Sanctuary for a bundle game? sorry, but the number one trading rule is "if it's too good to be true, it probably isn't..." :)

are you 100% sure that it was not an impersonator? did you check the profile yourself? meaning, you can't rely on a profile link he sent you. and you can't rely on a similar looking profile. what you have to do is check the profile by either using the steam64 id in a steamgifts url, or (the easier way) by using Enhanced Steam, which will give you a steamgifts profile link on the steam profile page of any user. that way you can check the profile yourself and can be 100% that you are talking to whom you think you're talking to.

how much rep does he have? if it's the last guy on your rep page with over 300 rep, it is very unlikely that he is the actual scammer. not impossible, but very unlikely.
