What this guy said. Throw the kid outside or leave him at a park. Preferably one very far from home.

Does he like games? If not then how about board games? Books?

Be creative.

Play some lego. Make a tower building contest or with him/her. And don't clean the mess of lego, let it all scattered all over the floor for some fun time later on.

Well then, I remember being a 5 years old: I love to jumping and running, love bubble balloon or just bubbles. You could try read him/her some story book with colorful pages. I remember my favourite, it was the story about the white crocodile of Pahang versus some Siamese djinn.

Lots of things for a five year old. Here, have a list:

  • Color
  • Paint
  • Build a blanket fort and read books
  • Watch Wreck It Ralph (I even enjoyed that movie at 27)
  • Shaving Cream + any non-porous surface like a table. Spread it all over and draw. Finish a picture and smear it to draw again.
  • Play-dough
  • Puppet Show
  • If the sickling is up for it, have him/her help you make lunch (kids that age love to cook)
  • If you have a Wii, try out the Skylander series. I have a 4 year old nephew and he adores it.
  • Teach him/her a new song.

I was a preschool teacher and these were some of the favorite activities for the kids, especially the shaving cream thing.

Edited to say this: Don't feel like you have the keep him/her entertained 24/7. 5 year olds a lot of the time can be very self sufficient at entertaining themselves at that age. And that's a valuable skill, especially if he/she is an only child. Their imaginations are incredible at that age, so he/she should do just fine. =)

Teach him poker. No really, try it. :D

If you want to play some PC games I recommend racing ones. Like NFS, Burnout etc.
