We eat several vegetarian meals per week, but aren't staunch vegetarians.
I have a lot of respect for folks who live a vegetarian lifestyle, but usually find vegans to be less than desirable to be around due to a seemingly constant need to proselytize.
I also have my own thoughts about how historically anomalous veganism (but not vegetarianism) is, and how dead vegans would be if we returned to our natural state of eating. They have trouble even making it without highly processed foods.
It's also worth noting that several species (including every damn chicken on the planet) of animals would fail to exist if they weren't paired with humans to co-exist. Domestication (plant, animal and fungi) has changed everything on the planet so much in such a short (relative) time, that most food radicals have no earthly idea what they're talking about. I've heard more than once that our stomachs can't handle modern wheat because it's no longer "natural" and our stomachs haven't had time to adjust. That may be for some strains, but not most. If wheat is unnatural, it is also one of the first domesticated plants. That means almost every fruit, vegetable and tree nut you can think of, and a few grains too, are even more unnatural than wheat and our stomachs should have even more trouble with everything but wild berries, grasses, leaves, and an occasional spice or tiny wild pepper.
Fun topic!

heh. Also worthy of note is how Soy screws up the hormones for men who eat that. But you won't see that advertised anywhere, because people who are omnivorous don't jump at anyone's face trying to change their eating habits.
That being said, I value all animal life, and I understand that animals suffer and are capable of having feelings (at the very least all the dogs I've had so far were pretty damn good at imitating a wide range of moods such as fear/love & affection and even longing and gratefulness).
I eat what I eat because it's good for me. Period. And that's the best anyone can do.

Yeah. Dead on. Although it should be noted that fermented soy and fresh soybeans aren't inherently bad for you as part of your diet. The heavily-processed, industrial filler soy is the worst of the worst. GMO, super processed, full of estrogen derivatives.

Always good to know.
also, the worst part about female hormones in food is that it adds to infertility. And the West faces low enough fertility rates as is, with all the artificial hormones our food gets from plastic containers such as plastic bottles. In fact, the Western demographic is slowly changing, because the most recent immigrant populations are yet to experience prolonged exposure to these problems.

Wow, nice to see how many people answered to this topic, thanks guys. there are some pretty nice statements i would upvote immediatly, if there was a possibility to :)
for me, im neither vegetarian or a vegan, but i eat meat only once a week or every second week. i like meat, but i dont have to eat it every day. and since i'm at the store every day buying fresh vegetables and stuff, i really dont need to eat meat more often.
but despite, like its said many times here, im respecting everybody with his decisions, so i want them to respect mine.

"I am so fabulous and intelligent, everyone who eats meat is stupid though lololo"
Yes, that perfectly makes sense to me
To be honest though, I think being a Vegan and attempting to enforce your way of life unto others is equally brainless like being christian and killing muslims while raping women and killing children because your own religion is the only true one and saying Muslims are stupid.

i guess im a meathead since im very fond of if, but its just because 100% of meat based food tastes like heavens, while 50% of veggies taste like crap.

I'm eating 100 gramm salad on my lunch and 100-150 gramm of porridge on my dinner.

I've done the vegetarian thing once before and it just made me feel anaemic and ill. Was evidently missing something in my diet, and my malaise was cured with a return to chicken and steak.
Anyway, here's a dilemma that keeps me eating meat until I either die or find a solution.
I often hear the argument that becoming a vegetarian/vegan is better for the environment, combined with the argument that it's wrong to kill animals.
Farmyard animals have been bred to be gorging, fat, fertile-and-fecund-fuckmonster, meat, milk and egg making machines. Left to their own devices the countryside here in the UK would soon become overrun with masses of domestic former-food livestock. They would destroy the habitat.
Essentially to ensure no damage was done we'd either have to kill them all before becoming vegetarian/vegan, regularly cull them as is done with deer, or re-introduce formerly native predators in a sufficient population to keep their numbers manageable. In all circumstances, animals must die as a direct result of our actions. Either the domestic animals run riot, destroy habitats and put the populations of native species at risk as a result of our not eating them, or measures are taken to eliminate altogether, or manage, the former livestock populations, whereby manage is a Bond-Villain euphemism for kill them.
Until I come up with an answer to that that is based in fact but also ethical. Bring on the beef!

Many of the domesticates wouldn't live past a couple of generations without human assistance. Pigs might be the exception. They are brutal, nasty, destructive, dangerous, and can interbreed with native populations. We have a serious problem with feral pigs here in Texas right now, where hunting of them via aircraft is now allowed. So at least with pigs, you're onto something.

Maybe in the US where you still have big predators. Here in the UK we've got lots of ideal habitat for all major livestock species and, in this hypothetical scenario, no one to stop them.
Their survival instincts are going to be rubbish, but we didn't breed the essential ones out - they know how to eat (because we like them plump) and they know how to fuck (because we need more of them).
We have plenty of hardy breeds here, too, salt marshes would be overrun with sheep destroying a vital wetland habitat, fields and hills would be swarming with grazing cows. You're right, they probably wouldn't last longer than a few generations but only because they will overpopulate and consume this green and pleasant land in fewer than 100 years. Where there is food and no threat, believe me, animals survive, and thrive!
The larger livestock, sheep, goats, cows and pigs - left untouched in the UK - could thrive perfectly well without human interference. Fowl would have to contend with our native smaller predators - foxes, domestic cats, to a lesser extent stoats/martens/weasels, so they'd probably be kept in order.
Different regions will obviously have different effects - where there are large predators these animals, with their docile, domesticated natures and dampened survival instincts will not lead to a vegetarian ethical dilemma. But islands with no large predators - i.e. where I live - that's a different ball game and a wildlife management nightmare.
TL;DR - In some regions, yes. But suitable food, habitat and lack of natural predators (such as on some islands) would allow their survival and their expansion.

You may be right. I don't know the first thing about sheep. Goats can survive on anything. Cattle and chickens here would starve long before predators wiped them, although certainly predators would take out a large number of chickens as well.
I don't know how bad your freezes are there (here they are rare), but I suspect exposure would take more animals than you might think as well.
My point was that many of these species have been developed to co-exist with humans and have no wild counterpart (progenitor cattle are extinct, and most chickens as well). Hardy or no, many aren't built to survive without human intervention, be it predator protection or food supply.
Vegetables are the same way. Most would fail miserably without human assistance in all but the most perfect of growing environments (read: not most of the world).
Either way, we can agree it would be a disaster. lol.

I don't like meat. I mean, I eat it, but I would totally trade it for something else. I could be a vegetarian again (when I was younger I didn't eat meat at all) without a problem, but I have to eat almost everyday at a mall, so it isn't easy to be picky about that.

I eat mostly anything. Exceptions include things like Shark Fin Soup, dog meat & olives...

.... eat? :)
Are you a meathead? Are you vegetarian or vegan? Or even a Fruitarian?
In the last couple of months many friends of me started to life the vegetarian or vegan lifestyle. Many of them act really drastic when it comes to meat, even a few broke up contact to people eating meat because ,,they are dumb" and ,,if they think killing any kind of beings is okay, i dont want to deal in any certain way with them".
In advance, here in Germany is some kind of vegan revolution going on since the last two years ( as i witnessed it ), showing in demonstrations against big companies f.e. McDonalds, Openings of small shops and even a few Supermarkets that only sell healty/non-animal-products, and many other ways.
So just out of curiosity i want to know, how do you think about not eating animals? Do you know or are you someone who lives like that? Or do you think that one of the reasons why animals live is because they should be eaten?
Go.
( yea i know, its not game related, but since most of gamers are described as fat-colaslurping-pizzaeating idiots i think this might get interesting ;P )
