cv dropped from 573$ to 499$

Try to give away more games and you don't notice these small drops (because of Steam price list changes).

Games can be bundled retroactively here on SG

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

They can, technically, but there's no reason for CV to drop if the giveaways were made before the games appeared in the bundle. Dunno if that's the case with OP.

Yes, it is too difficult for Steamgifts to do this, so when the game is added to a bundle, to not takes a CV from people who already created and finished they Giveaway with this game. :)

And I dropped from $1800 to $1638. But don't worry, its easy to fix that.

In that case the should cut your benefits. You seem to be well off even without any help from the state.

My CV increased from $3991 to $4009. What am I doing wrong?

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I think I lost around $30 somewhere, nothing too bad though.
EDIT: Just checked again and I've now lost closer to $60 (mostly because Iron Sky's value has halved), oh well.

That explains a bit of my own loss, gave away two of those (and a third outside of SG, that 90% coupon was nice), along with the Serious Sam collection I gave during a recent event. Every single cent is figured now.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Yeah same here, but I never actually bought a copy for myself! I wonder if 90% off coupons for it can still drop now the price has changed.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Well that's great for the Russians but why does that screw everyone else?

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

because everyone else could get it for this price + some small like 5-10% fee from a Russian trader. And a lot of people did as they tend to do. SG has no way to determine if you bought yourgame yourself or cheaper from trader, and as anyone can buy from a trader the most fair option is to assume cheapest price.

Well then following that logic wouldn't every game on Steam need to be on the bundle list. There is always the possibility that some one traded for a game. Maybe a couple of cards they didn't pay anything for to receive a game they get CV for. Just saying that you should not punish everyone for a few. Also if you are going to punish everyone... why not make the CV value what Steams lowest sale price is and not 0!

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

It is not a perfect system, but it severely cuts down on abuse while still encouraging giveaway creation. Your alternative is certainly not a superior solution.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

thought this all along, either put every game on steam on the bundled list or fuck the cv system off

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Well yeah. That's kind of why they bundled it.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

$430 to $136. Guess I'll have to stop buying nonbundle games to give away.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Nah, just give titles that aren't in the exploitable price range.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

The nonbundle games I gave away allowed me to enter different contests in my group. But now it seems like I cheated to enter these contests. Just hope I don't get into any trouble for this.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

No-one should be getting retroactively grumpy with you. If they let you in at the time, then all's fair.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

This is really stupid system.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

It's getting really hard to choose which games we should buy to giveaway. Cause now wish I didn't spend my money in those games and bought something for myself.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

If you care about CV, just give away games that aren't like 90% off.
Those games may be bundled sometime, due to Regional Pricing Exploit.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Solutions is easy. When giveaway ends, winner confirms receiving the game, CV should be frozen in contributors profile. Forever.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Agree, Games shouldn't be bundled retroactively here on SG

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Well yes, but according to the fair value approach this is the single correct thing to do. Games don't keep their value over time. So why should your contributor value? You have to see it from a different point of view. It does not count how much money you gave away but which value those money have atm in the winners inventory/library.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

This logic also means that after a bundle isn't sold anymore the CV should return to regular/full, because the current price/value of it is the currently lowest price.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Not really, since thanks to the bundles the value of the game has dropped. A part of the value finding process is still bound to supply and demand. But because games are not tradeable in that way it is a bit more complex.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

It shouldn't really matter how much the game is worth now, the only thing that should matter is how much it was worth when you actually gave it away. Its current value means nothing. If I gave $100 to charity right now, 5 years from now I still would have given $100 no matter what the current value of a dollar is.

You do realize this is a private website, correct? With clearly posted rules on CV for every new user?

Yes, but what does that have to do with the current discussion in this thread? Also, calling this website "private" is a joke.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Please do explain why. Seriously.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Well, your contributor value shouldn't change retroactively, it's not as if you get a partial refund when a game becomes discounted.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

They aren't.
Edit: Well they are up to the date they were in a bundle or exploited.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

This has been suggested many times.

I think it's hard to do this when a game glitch sale only happens for a few minutes, people make quick 1 hr giveaways and then they would have lots of CV and if what you suggested happened it would be frozen at the high value before the game is bundled.

Im ok with retroactive bundling, but if this happens after a month (even more than a week, imo) thats a bs move.
