You remember the Gems from the X-Mas Sale last year?

In my Opinion they are the best way for trading. You got a Price for 1000 Gems (1 Sack of Gems = ~70 cent) and they are is only one type, not like with Cards where you got Cards worth 4-5 cent and Cards worth 20-30 cent.

But you can also use the Gems for makeing Booster Packs, which is good too, because they get dropped VERY rarely sometimes and it depends on your Steam Level how often you get a Booster Pack (i got my First Booster in the 30s, now i get sometimes 1 Booster per week with level 100)

What is our Opinion for them? Is it better to Trade with Gems instead of Cards? Are they just useless? Discuss now :)

TF2 and CSGO key prices are the same ... cs:go kidz or people without csgo are just so stupid.. to buy them all form the community market for 15% more :p ingame store price is the same always

In some countrys you pay more ingame as on the market because the diffrent taxes for digital items.

but that does not really affect the trading value. only a few cents
and this slight increase is more on the popularity as the "key value"

because people will do booster packs with the gems? this is most of the time a rip off (1k gems for a 15 cent booster)

The keyword here is mostly. There were (still are?) boosters/cards selling for more than gems needed to craft them. I remeber sometimes that difference was quite high (mostly for unbundled anime-themed games)

mostly the booster only are worth more, when the game is VERY new or not even out, but if got cards already

Quick look for what I own:
1Heart: Crafting cost: ~0,7eur, trades in 0.5-1eur range, lowest offer 0,8eur. Transactions are rare

List of potentially profitable boosters is quite big: http://www.steamcardexchange.net/index.php?boosterprices. The catch is, you must own the game and trades occur rarely (high risk of losses). There is no free lunch )

Sometimes makeing Booster Packs but ....In the soon 4 years (the first two year not counting - low lvl) and at 67 lvl I have got only one or two booster packs and every day I'm on Steam. Maybe I need to press exit of Steam in the upper left corner and not press X in the upper right corner every day??!

it depends on the amount of games oyu own too, i can get booster packs from over 400 different games (437 to be exact atm) and on your level, your chance increases +20% for every 10 level, i got from the 80s to 90 about 10 booster packs, and i was only 2 months in there, i'm now level 100 (+200% drop chance) since a week and i got only 1 booster, it also depends on the luck, like here on SG

Have 184 games for now and 89 games eligible for booster packs (that number was much much smaller but working on it the last few days with idle master) and perhaps this was also a problem ... time will tell.

I only deal in gems as Steam currency since I don't care about keys at all. Gems are clean, have actual use, and are as stable as a currency.

The number depends of your elegible games too i think?
cause i am level 40 and have a drop every week too.

also you get gems by destroying cards and icons, so why would you do that?
destroying cards to get boosters?

only thing you may be right is trading games.
there you got a pretty solid currency with gems.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Gems are made by destroying emotes and backgrounds, mostly. Emotes are rarely used, especially the large majority outside some popular types (hearts, smiley faces, some anime emoticons), and almost every background is useless since most people use exactly one, if they use one at all.
So there are plenty of gems going around, and many of them are used to make boosters, but also as a currency. They are more of a self-regulating market than keys which are mostly set because people are used to that price.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

but you culd just sell the background, most are worth more money then you get gems of 'em.

for a really bad background, like "chimney in the view", you get one cent in my currency. that are 14 gems.
by destroying you only get 10 gems. son not worth destroying em.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Try to actually sell them. Your example has 300+ offers with 0 people buying and 1-2 people weekly paying that one cent. The whole reason gems were introduced because the majority of this stuff was on the market and nobody was selling, they just sat there in the thousands.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

it depends on the time you want to wait.
i allways sell my stuff and am patient enough to wait.
everything gets bought earlir or later.

but you are right, if it has to be fast, then making gems with em is the better option.

I've only used gems to make some booster packs i've wanted cards from for myself (was cheaper than buying the cards themselves since i had lots of really cheap cards with good gems value), don't really have another use for them since i've never got into trading.

Good for the people that got into gems earlier, since they've got more for their money. But i agree with that gems are better currency for trading than cards, especially when doing larger trades, since it should be easier to keep gems in check than a large number of cards.

And with a sack of gems (should be 1000 i think) at ~70 cent, you can even make some profit buying gems, creating packs and sell the packs or the cards on their own.

I buy gems to make expensive booster packs.

Last X-mas was absolutely amazing. Adventure Time: Secret of the Nameless Kingdom booster packs were around $3, and the common cards were ~$0.6 with foils ranging at $5-10 each. With a pack of a set with only 5 cards, crafting the pack only costied 1200 gems, I should have been profiting around $1-2 once every 24 hours. However, my luck was absolutely abnormal with the pack openings. I opened about 8-10 foil cards out of at least 20 packs (opened enough to craft the level 5 badge on two accounts).

Hopefully this system stays forever, as I have been crafting the expensive Undertale boosters.

Yes I trade for Gems all the time. My favorite currency since it got introduced.
I then either sell them or trade them again for games I want.
Like someone mentioned, not everyone has keys, while Gems are easy to come by, either by purchasing them or crafting them (converting items into Gems)
Plus, most of the bundle games are not worth keys (unless higher tier) so trading for Gems is more reasonable and undestandable. And on the plus side Sacks can be broken so you can specify the exact price, for example 1.5 Sacks.
Instead of dealing with refs or Tods for additional payment, that again not everyone has.

Edit: Also cards are a pain in the ***. I hate when people offer them to me. They either have those 0.04 - 0.05 cards that are not worth selling on nit pick on the number of cards if they have 0.10 - 0.08 cards. Also, the value fluctuates all the time. I once took a card that later dropped from 0.10 to 0.05. Don't accept them for trading any more.
