Some time ago I've won a crappy game on SG and now I want to remove it permanently from my account. Can I do that?

yes, but you will get suspended.

id you really want to do it, you can contact the ga creator and somewhat convince him to delete the ga, or to reroll it (it's annoying to reroll an old ga).

No, you can't. It will look like you never activated the game, and that will get you into trouble. If the game turned out to be bad, and you don't want to see it in your list, just hide it.

yes you can, but it'll start showing up as "not activated" everywhere afterwards

I recommend you to hide it - if you remove it, then afterwards you'll have a missing game which should be activated based on the site's rules

Comment has been collapsed.

You cannot. It will be considered an unactivated win. I posted about cleaning up my library a while back and the most common response was to not remove any games I had won here. I'd just hide the game

You'd probably get unactivated win then. And why You entered for that game in the first place?

The same reason why people bought No Man's Sky and then wanted a full refund.

The difference is You've got it for free. Removing a won game is a bit disrespectful towards GA creator, isn't it? My suggestion is just to hide this game, as others have said.

No disrespect in that... most of the people give away mostly unwanted or straight-out bad games, no need to treat them like treasure. Especially if you need to play it to realize it's not for you, or even bad. Based on that thought I shouldn't write negative reviews about any game won on SG because it would be disrespectful to the creator.

Maybe I exaggerated, but I still view it as not a good thing to do. Besides, due to later complications on SG it's just not worth it.

If you were talking about removing previously as well, then I agree 100%. It's a lot of problem for OP if he removes, it's a lot of problem for the creator to reroll, and people better learn with their mistakes, especially if it's just a bad game :)

Yup, I was writing about removal. Maybe it wasn't that clear, I'll fix that in a second :P

I thought your main problem was calling a game bad - I've seen some people flip out in the topic about worst won games, because they thought everyone is disrespectful to the creators - even the guys who knew the game bad, wanted to win it, and said yap, it was bad :D

i find it funny when people police others and they don't play all their wins.
kinda the same thing as trying to get rid of an unwanted game. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Well, it's not like I'm going to forget about them. I have special place for won games in my Steam categories and they have priority, but I have yet to finish games which I am currently playing. Besides, it's not easy task to get them with my 500kb/s internet... So, just taking my time. Whole different situation.

Hide the game if it bothers you this much. Also why did you join the giveaway anyway?

You will get suspended probably , and you will not be able to enter SGTools protected giveaways if they have the option to hae activated all wins . EVER .

Just hide it from your library .

I swear, i don't understand the permanent removal of a game.
Mine are not even hidden, let alone removed.

Purchase a giftable copy of the game you won and send it to the giveaway creator, asking him to delete or reroll the giveaway. After the deletion or reroll happens, you can remove the game from your library.

Nice solution! I knew you mods were good for something.

I'm going to add my perspective to that:

I also recommend giving the GA creator an extra key as a courtesy for them having to deal with the hassle of dealing with an old giveaway after so long (assuming the win wasn't recent). If the GA was for an unbundled game that has since become bundled, you may have to make up for that difference as well, especially if the original giveaway was one with few entries. Alternatively, if the game was a junk bundle game, you could probably convince the GA creator to agree-to-delete just by giving them a key for a bundle game of higher CV value.

So in other words it isn't worth the hussle. It's better to get cards from game and hide it later. Thanks SleepyC.

Bloodrayne Betrayal for example. This game was do disappointing. Gameplay and controls were bad. I thought that it will be a spiritual successor to Bloodrayne series but it wasn't.

I'm not sure what you're referencing, but even when I joined the site a year ago and all other negative forum behaviors (that've since been cracked down more) were shamelessly allowed to run rampant, direct death wishes were the one thing that staff did suspend for.

If you dont like game you dont enter giveaway simple as that...

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I've entered two games now that looked great at the time and had decent reviews, and ended up getting slammed by subsequent reviews in ways that make it clear they're not actually worth playing. If you include games that got slammed but I'm still willing to give a shot (because the complaints don't seem like they'd bother me as much as they did the reviewers), that's 4 games.

And that all with me always making sure I still want a game both before entering for it and before activating it after I win it.
Sometimes you simply make errors in judgement, or work off of faulty information. Some games on Steam have even been patched into a broken state and then abandoned. Sometimes you learn a negative aspect of the developer in question after the fact, and feel shamed to have their products in your library.

There's plenty of reasons you may want to remove a won game that aren't based in "having entered for a game you don't like".

Permalink

Because at the time I wasn't aware that it will be so disappointing.

You have an interesting giveaways ratio. Giveaways count are exactly 1:1, and your value is extremely similar. Neat.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

A few days ago value wasn't similar, there was at least $200 difference. Dunno why is like that now though.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Fallen Enchantress is back on steam as a standalone purchase. You've made 5 giveaways for it, each used to give you 40 CV, as Fallen Enchantress was, for a while, only available in a collection together with its sequel. Now it's back, so now the steam API reports a value of $10.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I don't think that's it. "Won" value was lower, "sent" was pretty much the same.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

castle of illusion was $0 for a few days after steam store page was no longer there, but that was only a few days like that before it was adjusted here on SG. unsure otherwise here.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Well, it doesn't really matter since I don't enter SGTools protected giveaways.
I also gained at least 10 new blacklists today thanks to this thread. Not that it bothers me or anything.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

oh even if u had, that ratio would pass most peoples general rules anyways, but i hear ya.. and yea ppl bl for anything, even just asking a question as innocent as this to make sure you wouldn't be break the rules :S dumb..

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Well, I found one culprit (don't worry, that will fix itself). I don't know exactly when Fallen Enchantress was returned, but for a while, you did at least get more CV from it than you do now.

Permalink

lol, yeah that'll make a huge jump that doesn't belong.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

It's steam bundle price or what?

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Yeah. The price of the bundle it's in is currently lower than just the game itself, so the steam API reports it having the bundle value.

I win so few things in life, that when I win a game here I'm estastic. It doesn't matter if it's not good, I won it. I try to play all the games I win and have found some good and some not so good. Since I'm on SS (social security) and have absolutely no extra money for things like games, I have come to rely on you lovely people who donate good (and sometimes not so good games). So bless all of you! Thanks.
