Did permissions requirements for syncing change

I've been away for a while. I come back. I log in and SG is asking me to change my account to go public. I haven't changed my account settings in years. So this is a bit of a shock (albeit a minor one and easily fixed).

I changed my account from "Users only" to "Public" now considering I've been on SG for over a year without touching my account settings I'm trying to figure out what changed. Was my account changed from Public to User Only (unlikely as I would probably prefer UO) or did something change over here

It definitely needs to be public to sync, and you need to sync at least once a week. I don't know if it was always like this or not. After you sync, you can change your profile back to private/users until the next week.

It's required your account to be public at least once a week AFAIK since I joined in May 2012...

You need to be Public in order to sync, maybe SG just recently added a notice about it.

except that would imply it hasn't syncd before and i have synced before.

oh well. Not a fan of being FULL public but whatever I would hate having to go into steam settings every week more.
