This isn't a problem, just an annoyed rant. :-D I'm pretty new here at SG and I really enjoy creating GAs - it's like a year long Christmas. But I'm so frustrated that I can create only few (5) at the moment giveaways and it takes ages for people to accept their winnings. </rant>
Thank you.

You'd think it would be the other way around lol. I am in a similar boat right now, winner with "problem" won't contact me, at least he accepted my invite.

One situation ATM: GA ended - I sent a gift to email. Few hours later I got a Steam friend invite. I accepted a resent the gift directly in Steam and sent a message to the winner. Few hours later he added the gift in Steam, replied to my message with "yes,thanks"... And of course, it's still not confirmed in SG... :-)

You can ask support for more slots, but this may take w while as well.

Also, remember that deleting a giveaway removes one slot permanently - this can be painful at at the beginning.

Ouch... I didn't know that - I did delete one GA - I was trying how SG works - I made sure it was a private GA and it had 0 people in it. Well, now I know. :-)

You don't have to delete giveaways with zero entries. Just let them sit there. They do no harm.

Make higher level restriction. Those winners are quicker most of the time :)

But I have no answer to the why.

I told to myself, that I will create GAs at the same level I am. But I'm still L1.92. So we will see, what I'll think about this idea if I ever reach L3. ;-)

Level 0 people may be in geral some random people that joined the website a day, entered anything, and forgot about the website. They may not notice their win, or even if they notice, they may not know/care that they have to mark it as received.

Higher level are usually people that access the site almost daily, and know how it works.

But the rant is because a giveaway ended 6hours ago, has a winner that hasn't activated the game, probably hasn't visited the site, or is sleeping or doesn't have a "leisure connection" atm.

Yes, 6 hours it not that long.

I actually just tried to address sappyMA's question, regardless of the original rant.

Well, winners have 7 days to accept. I'm quite glad that all my giveaways were confirmed within a day of ending.

just make 1 hour giveaway, if winner doesnt respond in 3 days then just reroll.
its not that long and even if the person cant access his computer in 1 day then he has enough time to check

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Errr, you can't request a reroll until 7 days after the GA ends. ;)

You're not a newbie anymore, you should know by now that people have 7 days to activate, and only after 7 days can you ask for a re-roll if it's still not activated.

Don't go around giving people false information.

You can't get a re-roll after 3 days have passed only because someone didn't activate his game yet.

welp.... to bad that i already did on flash invite only GA..............
note: the winner was suspended for limited time on steam but that was never considered when i requested the reroll which already got accepted.

Perhaps he broke a rule, you can get a reroll if the user is suspended. But normally you MUST wait 7 days. If the user isn't or can't become suspended before, you won't get a reroll.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

a reroll is granted no matter why he was suspended.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

In that case, your reroll was accepted because the winner broke a rule and got suspended.

"Winners should correctly mark their gift as received or not received within one week of the giveaway closing. This feedback should be kept up-to-date if the status of the gift changes." It's in the Guidelines.

"Flash GAs" just mean they're quickly ending GAs, and has nothing to do with how fast the winner has to activate and mark the win.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

It was re-rolled due to the suspension. If he had not been suspended, you would have had to wait seven days.

some ways to solve your problem:
ask the support to increase the maximum number of GAs you can do.
make some GAs with unbundled games to raise your level faster - you get more slots
try to be more patient^^

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Number of slots depends ONLY on nr of GAs you'br delivered, not on your level. Lvl 3 with 100 GAs delivered will have more slots than lvl 5 who made 5 AAA GAs. So your suggestion about nonbundle GAs is invalid.

Go for a walk, take the dog out for a bit, watch a movie, dress up like Kippie the Clown and terrorize the neighborhood children, help an old lady across the street, read a book, play a game, ride a pedestrian over, have an old friend over for dinner, phone a friend, do some research, get a cat out of the tree, eat a lollipop, clean the house, wash the dishes or stalk your next victim.

I could go on and on and on but as you can see there are a myriad of things one can busy ones time with rather than staring at Steam gifts waiting for winners to claim their prizes.

Nothing is truly meaningless, unless everything is meaningless.

In a more pragmatic approach, everything is meaningless per se, but we do have the capability to give meaning to things as desired, needed or for convenience.

Send them an email. You see their adresses, and most of them read the mail more often then visiting sg

I send majority of my GAs as Steam gifts to an email address - seems like the best way to me.

Depends on how long you've been waiting. Remember people on here are all over the world, have jobs and families and enter dozens of GA's a day. They can't be on in the 0.001% chance they win. Most are accepted within 24 hours.

If this rant is about people not marking received within a few hours, you just gotta be patient. If it about people not responding for 4-5 days, your rant is valid.

i have had to wait the full week right down to the last minute a few times now for people to claim there winnings, while it can be annoying especially if that GA is going to level you up but there is really nothing you can do about it as the site gives them a week to claim there winnings,i guess you could always blacklist users who are slow to click "received" but i have a feeling your blacklist would grow rather quickly lol

make a whitelist with cool winners and then more whitelist Giveaways. It´s a bigger chance for taken fast "receives" :D

I share your pain when it comes to winners accepting their gifts quickly and clicking received, I make sure I am always there when the GA ends to have out the key ASAP so people can enjoy their games, but like many folks have said, things in life prevent them from instant accepting the gifts, you just gotta be patient with the winners. Although it can be difficult to be patient when that game you've handed out is the last received you need to hit the next level XD.

Last month I had a situation when the winner didn't accept for 5 weeks. Obviously I tried contacting him numerous times and he even went on Steam every few days but he just didn't accept the gift and he didn't even write to me on Steam to talk. I'm not gonna say who it was obviously but I asked for a re-roll and support granted it. I just hope he/she will one his/her lesson.

It's disrespectful to be honest. You buy someone a free game and they can't even find 3 minutes to accept it?

I figure this is the best place to ask without starting a whole new thread... hopefully you gift veterans can give me some advice.

I've started doing giveaways since I've won a few and want to give back, it's pretty fun. My problem is with my 2nd (present) giveaway. It ended a little more than a day ago and like my first giveaway, I intended to friend invite the winner on Steam and send the gift directly to make sure they get it and use it. It worked fine the first time but with the current one I'm not able to get a hold of the winner... I've sent him several friend invites, posted a notification on his Steam profile page and a last resort would be by email I guess (he's from Russia though so there's probably a language barrier issue too). I've been watching his Steam and SteamGifts activity and he's been on several times for various lengths of time on both (long enough to get a friend invite and gift send taken care of). His SteamGifts profile says he's won and received a game from here before so it's not like he's new...

So, should I try sending the gift through email? I think a language barrier might still prevent this from getting sorted out... I would like to just get this gift to the winner and continue on my merry way but his behavior is just baffling and suspicious at this point. Given that I only have 1 slot to post giveaways in and this giveaway is taking up that slot, I'm kind of stuck with waiting for 7 days to ask support for a reroll otherwise.

Well, you can't really do something about it, just go ahead and try reaching him via mail. Make a screenshot of that mail so you have your evidence in case you have to make a supportticket and then just wait. I know it's super annoying and I had that problem with several winners, all of them users who were not new to this site, but in the end, they all activated their wins during the 7 day time-window.
if you want to increase your chance for a "quick"-winner, make your GAs with a higher level restriction (4+ +). This works best.
