Touhou Giveaways recruitment

Greetings, and welcome to Touhou Giveaways recruitment thread!

We're looking for friendly, active people who are interested in joining a welcoming community involved in more than just Steamgifts and giveaways, but also a variety of other activities such as chatting, playing, and occasionally hosting some of the best giveaway events Steamgifts has yet to see.

What is Touhou Giveaways?

Unlike the name suggests, the theme and focus of the group is not centered on Touhou - We're an inclusive giveaway group with all kind of members with various different hobbies and passions; all are more than welcome to join and enjoy the many benefits of being a member of one of the most complex giveaway groups on Steamgifts. Being more than just a simple giveaway group, we strongly encourage participating in the community by joining the group chat, or participating in gaming sessions or giveaway events we host, although it is not a requirement for joining the group.

Touhou Giveaways is a group where all, members and staff alike, strive to provide the very best gifting experience possible. Since its founding on February 18th 2015, the group has been in a constant state of development - Today, we're proud to say that Touhou Giveaways is better than ever, and still improving every day, and with every of our members' and staff awesome efforts and suggestions to make the group a truly unique experience for all. We enjoy great company, and new members will have no trouble adapting to the friendly, relaxed attitude we like to maintain within the group.

The group offers a variety of innovative features, most importantly being the implementation of a semi-autonomous bot which ensures that the entire group is run smoothly. From managing members' giveaways to calculating, transferring and awarding points to members, ArchiBot takes care of the manual labour so that you can focus on what really matters - the Touhou Giveaways community activity. In addition to that, we have a website, an active chat, a userscript, and even a shop where you can spend a special currency earned through group activity to decorate your profile within the website! Those are just a few benefits that our users can make use of.

What we look for in potential members

We are looking for friendly people who want to join a community-based giveaway group and who fulfill the requirements for application. We want new people to join us and have fun chatting and playing games with us, so if you're looking for a group where the focus is on community-driven activity such as this, with the giveaways being an extra, you've come to the right place. Most importantly, we want members who will care for the group and its members as much as we do, and won't treat it as just another source of free games among others - Touhou Giveaways is, at its core, and before all else, a group of friends who enjoy each other's company.

To best determine whether or not Touhou Giveaways is the group for you, we encourage you to review our group rules. We also strongly encourage joining our group chat, where the most active members participate in conversation on a daily basis. There, you can introduce yourself, ask questions, or jump in on a conversation - The chat is open to all and we're always happy to see a new face. Plus, taking the time to come visit us is a sign that you care enough to take a moment of your time to take a tour, and will definitely increase your chances of being recruited. Even if you don't apply, we'll be more than happy to have you drop by, or even be a regular visitor.

A few other minor factors may affect your odds of being recruited, such as having a positive ratio or recognition within the Steamgifts forum, but these are hardly considered in comparison to the factors mentioned above, and they shouldn't heavily affect your chances.

With that said, the only requirements for applying is to fulfill the initial requirement of being at least contributor level 2+, and the above is only meant to give you an idea of what kind of member is more likely to make it through - The more you fit the criteria, the better are the chances that the Touhou Giveaways members and staff will pick you as a candidate. All are welcome to try their luck even if you only fulfill the Level 2+ requirement, though!

Until now we've organized a group recruitment every 3 months, with very positive results. Starting today, we've decided to maintain a single ongoing recruitment which will last until further notice. If you're wondering how things were organized in the past, feel free to check out our previous recruitment thread.

How to apply

Applying is simple - all you need to do is post a comment below and ask to be considered for membership. We encourage telling a bit about yourself, but this isn't a job application - just be yourself! The more effort you put into your application, the more likely we'll appreciate you for taking the time to post more than a generic "please invite me" message, and your chances of being invited may increase as a result.

After posting the application we'll evaluate your potential as a member and decide on your invitation. Waiting for your application to be reviewed is also one of the best moments to visit us on chat and get along with the community.

We'll usually let you know the outcome of your application in a few days since posting, but it may take up to a week if we're especially busy. If you made it in, one of our staff members will contact you shortly on Steam, where the group introduction will take place during which we'll happily show you the ropes.

More information?

If you want to know more about how the group operates, check out introduction which will give you a quick overlook of the group, activity and functionality, or learn more about ArchiBot, or review the group rules. The group chat is always open to the public, so if you have any questions, don't hesitate to hop in and ask us directly!

Good luck!

Thread defunct

Due to how I was treated by SG staff and suspended afterwards, without any relevant answer to my open ticket, I've decided that I'm cutting my entire SG discussions activity and closing all the threads that I maintain, as I refuse to add any community value to the shithole that this place has became.

In regards to this thread, jbondguy007 will organize further recruitments and otherwise answer all SG-related Touhou Giveaways matters. You can find the new thread here that is operating as a direct replacement for this one.

Thanks for your support and I'm sad that I was treated like a dog shit by moderators of this place. Since I'm unable to change anything on my own, I'm switching the focus to places where I can, in particular my projects and other communities that care about their members. SG is the last place that does.

Please remove the links for the website and shop from your OP.

The website includes the rules for the members to join, how do you want this to comply with the SG rules? Nobody had problems with that for the past 14 recruitments, so pretty much over last 4 years. Personally I do not mind but if you expect me to post all of that in a single post then it's simply not possible, and members should have reference to rules and introduction at the minimum. Removing 2 out of 4 links is probably not going to satisfy you, and I don't see any mention of that going against the rules as compared to other groups with a website, those that are much longer up than mine. Therefore sorry, but either what you're stating is arbitrary in regards to other topics, or you should discuss it further with remaining staff members. The website has information purpose only and the people outside of the group can't even interact with it, except for reading. I do not believe this is any kind of traffic redirection, and if you believe otherwise then I want you to moderate all other giveaway groups with the website first, as right now I find this extremely biased and outright harmful for the potential candidates, especially since I didn't find a single occurance of anything like that in the past. Thanks.

The website includes the rules for the members to join, how do you want this to comply with the SG rules?

You have twelve links in your OP. After reviewing them, I asked you to remove two, specific links ("...a website, ... and even a shop...") so that your post might "comply with the SG rules." The smart thing would have been to respond "OK," and remove the links, allowing yourself to continue on without having to worry about the matter any longer. Instead, you seem to be pressing me for a full disclosure of my reasoning and judgement of the matter, including why I chose to overlook a number of other links in the same post.

Removing 2 out of 4 links is probably not going to satisfy you, ...

It would have if you had simply done as I asked. For reference, here is the corresponding Guideline:

  • When posting links or content, that content should not force users, encourage users through reward, or primarily exist as a traffic source for users to perform an action for promotional, commercial, or monetary benefit. Such actions include but are not limited to clicking a referral link, liking a Facebook page, following a Twitter account, joining a Steam group, completing a survey, or making a donation. (Please note, in giveaway descriptions we do allow users and developers to link to their related Steam Greenlight, group, and store pages, as well as their social media channels. Users are also able to reference their group giveaways when posting in the Group Recruitment category of our forum.)

While you apparently believe me to be a complete moron (based upon your argumentation), I can assure you I am perfectly capable of providing point-by-point, defensive analysis and evidentiary support of my moderation. It seems to me that my "first offer" is still the most elegant solution. I suggest you take it.

I fail to see how the guideline you are pointing out here is relevant to the situation.

[...] content should not force users, encourage users through reward [...]

The links do none of those things. You are neither forced, encouraged, or rewarded for visiting the links.

[...] as a traffic source for users to perform an action for promotional, commercial, or monetary benefit [...]

Again, the links does not lead to any sort of page requiring action, containing promotional material, and no monetary benefit is being made via the links.

Such actions include but are not limited to clicking a referral link, liking a Facebook page, following a Twitter account, joining a Steam group, completing a survey, or making a donation.

And again, none of these are requirements or being encouraged via the provided links.

I know you mean well, but I'm almost guaranteed you are wrong in your judgement with this particular situation. If possible, I'd like to hear other SG mods' opinions on this as I feel your request is not fair according to the guidelines - While this isn't my thread, I did provide some of the content including the wording and links seen in the post, and I want to get clarifications on why exactly this is considered "promotion" in any way.

I hope you won't take offense to my response - I respect your authority as a SG mod, but unfortunately I just don't feel your request is justifiable, and I do believe even SG support and mods can make a mistake sometimes (as I've seen in the past) and I hope this is the case here, and just a matter of misunderstanding.

I believe you meant "I am almost sure you are wrong."

There is always the possibility of making a mistake, of course, but I remain confident in my judgement. There is a sort of TLDR explanation given below, should you wish to read it. Disagreements with moderation should really be addressed through a Support ticket (which is then handled among Staff) rather than hashed out in the forum, so I will leave this matter there.

Sorry but I fail to see how a steamgifts community website link (that is 100% non-commercial and only there for the community) can be forbidden under a rule that is there to prevent people from posting commercial referral links.

You seem to be overlooking a few things.

  1. The Guideline I cited is fairly broad and covers many things, including superfluous redirects to a user's website.
  2. The Guideline that prevents referral links is a separate Guideline.
  3. They are both Guidelines, giving an indication of what types of things are allowed (or not), and they are not meant to exclude anything which does not conform exactly to their wording.

The links redirect traffic offsite, the site to which they redirect is that of the poster's, and the links themselves are superfluous to the purpose of this sub-forum. They therefore fall within the purview of the Guideline cited.

I don't understand... What exactly are those links violating?
Is it that you think the links should be taken down because they redirect to a site that is not related to this subforum (group recruitment)?
Is that what "superfluous redirects to a user's website." mean?

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

As mentioned above, Guidelines prohibit the use of links whose primary purpose is to redirect Net traffic, especially when the redirect is to a site owned, operated, and/or sponsored by the user posting the link(s). The purpose of that Guideline is to prevent users from using the SG forum as a platform for their advertising. As many of the links in the OP were not integral to the post itself, and any information they provided should be accessible from the Steam group's pages, their only substantial function was to entice prospective members. In other words, to advertise Archi's site.

Oh, ok, I understand better now the reason you're citing. But now I'm confused at the purpose of the rule itself. Does this mean that any non-steamgift website link is not allowed in forum if the poster owns/operate the site? Even if the site is not for commercial purpose and is created for just enhancement of the SG experience? I don't understand what the harm is to allow users to advertise their site for non-monetary purpose.
For just 1 example, the BLAEO group-recruitment post advertise their website for keeping track of game backlog. They offer it for any users, so it is arguably even less related to their group recruitment purpose compared to Touhou's links. Is that an advertising violation? I've found their site extremely useful for my personal game tracking, it would be so sad to not have it available for future members.

I find it completely and utterly irrational that you ask me to remove 2 out of 9 links pointing to the website based on your own flawed judgment and I could argue further on it, especially considering we have 3 staff members in the group that reviewed the thread in the past, but just because what you're asking for is actually entirely negligible (and outright irrational since every user who wants to explore website will just do so through any of 7 remaining links), I'm going to comply as it's not worth my time and effort to argue with you.

I'll instead reach appropriate people to review this case and restore it back in a few days.

Very well, you have convinced me. Please remove all of the links except for the one for the Steam chat and the one to the previous thread. The first is definitely not a redirect to your site, and the second (although it has its own issues) could be seen as perfunctory.

I'll instead reach appropriate people to review this case and restore it back in a few days.

That works.

Your decision now doesn't matter to me. I'm reaching appropriate people in regards to thread review (including cg) and until they make the decision the links are going to stay as per the fact that they were available for the last 14 recruitments with the same guidelines in place. Nobody I asked agrees with your statement, including a dozen of members and candidates, together with a few staff members that names I won't disclose (neither what they think of you). cg himself also didn't state anything what you're stating, so either you misinterpret the guidelines that you expect to enforce, or you have some serious personal issues towards a lot of people here.

Despite of that I already said that I'm going to comply with what you wanted to achieve initially, because it's still negligible in my eyes, but I can openly state that I won't remove all links to the website that is non-commercial, available only for members, doesn't generate any benefit for neither me nor any other person, is community-oriented and serves as a supplement for rules and introduction for interested candidates. If you believe that I'm wrong, start your crusade with other websites like bundle quest and BLAEO, and especially sgtools that includes ads and actual monterary benefit for the creator, a complete opposite to mine.

Until this ticket is resolved, you're not allowed to take any action against this thread or my person, as I want this case to be reviewed by other staff members, and in particular cg. Super moderator goes directly against your opinion, and I take his word as more important than yours. If you want this handled earlier, you're more than welcome to speed up the process by having cg explicitly answering my concerns in the ticket. I'm ending the discussion with you here, and I find it ironic that of all people it's you who started mod burnout thread.

Until this ticket is resolved, you're not allowed to take any action against this thread or my person

You do not get to dictate what the Steamgifts moderator are or aren't allowed to do. You are free to open a ticket if you disagree with a moderator's decision, but you do not get to make your own rules.

Since you chose to take a confrontational approach, instead of simply complying and removing the unnecessary links, why don't we close this thread instead for the time being, until that ticket gets anwered.

I thought it might be worth mentioning that the "shop" in no way actually accepts any form of real money. To reiterate the exact wording:

a special currency earned through group activity

The "currency" can not be earned outside of general group activity, and cannot be acquired through other means. The shop only accepts this "currency" and is only accessible to group members.

Just thought I'd clarify since I don't see any problem with website links on other SG threads nor any of the website guidelines, so I'm assuming you might have thought that the shop is some kind of actual online store, which it isn't.

I would like to join your group. 5 minute speech. I was born in Southern California, United States. Went to University and studied Accountancy. It was in college, that I found my calling to be more IT related. Now that I'm working, I'm what you might call a Project Specialist. A couple levels below project manager. My favorite thing to do is automating Excel Spreadsheets with formulas or amateur-level VBA. I make dashboards to show ongoing progress of different projects. I'm also an officer in Toastmasters (A public speaking training club). I'm all about self-development and believe you can teach yourself anything if find the right study method. I'm also a part of the Diversity Inclusion committee at work (A committee for helping employees be aware of different viewpoints) We put together events like speakers for Black History Month, Disability Speaker panels.

At home, I'm just your regular Millennial weeb. Read manga or webcomics online. Watch the occasional anime and go to bed. I used to watch a lot of Youtube. Videogame reviews and Anime Music Videos. When I talk about any of these things at work I get this confused look so I generally keep it to all to myself :/

Fun Fact: I actually did a 5 minute speech in Toastmasters reviewing a game I liked. It was Death Road to Canada. Of course most people in that room have never heard of that game, so I passed it off as a Oregon Trail like game, which did make the most sense.
