So I was checking my humble account and realized that I have keys that are nearing 9 years old on there. Can anyone else top that?

Here's a train with some old keys I have left over from the olden days. Holding on to my very old keys though for no real reason!

I think the oldest one I currently still have is for Jet Gunner from Flying Bundle - Who's Gaming Now from 2014. I didn't do something with the key quick enough and then it was given away for free somewhere and I don't think it was allowed back then to create giveaways on SG for games that were in a free promotion, so I just left it in a list of keys and have been too lazy to do anything with it since then. I have other keys because of the same reason. Maybe I'll find the motivation some day to create giveaways or dump them in one of the threads here meant for that.

I tend to make giveaways right away, so the oldest would be a few days at max when I am trying to find a 'friend' who wants the game before I make giveaways here.

So 9 years I think?

How do you know the keys shown on your HB account have never been used for 9 years, HB can't track that? Or do you mean that you never generated the keys for those games before?

If the question is oldest unused key: 7 years
If the question is oldest non-generated game: 0. I generate everything straight away to avoid supply issues as HB have turned scummy as well 🙄

Never revealed the keys.

I don't know if you have revealed them yet or not? But waiting only increase your risk of running into supply issues I reckon 🤔

I believe the key is yours to keep, not likelihood ownership. If the key doesnt work, it was sold as used in the first place.

I wasn't talking about the "your key is already used" error, but the fact that when you generate a key on Humble Bundle's website you sometimes can get a "we ran out of supply" error. Which I think more often than not does get resolved by refilling the supply eventually, but it could take months for you to get yours and sometimes even never.

I have not revealed them, and frankly I'm not so worried about these games. It seems like the supply issues are bundled specific when they've had more purchases than keys assigned to the bundle. Don't think these have a particularly high likelyhood of having issues with supplies based on that.

That's quite possible. And logically speaking it would make sense that they would have x keys for x games because how can you sell something you don't have? But we see now that that's not the case, as they actually do sell more bundles than the amount of keys that they carry.

But then why is that not the case for games from older bundles, like you pointed out? I would think that they either did have that system in place but then decided to overhaul it and actually made it worse, or they just had a fuckton of keys for games from older bundles than they do today. I'm assuming the latter makes a lot more sense, in which case if the game gets re-bundled often enough it opens the possibility to those older games also becoming victim to supply shortage. All it would take is that the amount of sold bundles exceeds the amount of keys carried inside the table.

But as far as I know, we don't have any details on how their backend works exactly. And how many 'old' keys they are carrying for each game. If it's as simple as them having a table filled with keys for each game, which is then used for any bundle that includes that game, it would mean that when a new bundle with that game is released that 'your' unrevealed key could then be given to someone else. Effectively making you the duped person instead of that new customer.

I do think the risk is very low, and I'm not telling you what you should do. But that's just why I never wait with revealing mine. I pay good money to get what I paid for. Not to get scammed and get told "rEaD DuH ToS BrUh".

My first thought I sure hope I will not see "by entering this giveaway you agree to delete if key doesn't work"
What a pleasant surprise.

On the topic - I wanted to say "none" but I actually went to my HB and saw I bought bundle 5 years ago and never redeemed keys 😂 Humble Staff Picks Bundle: Nick

Oldest key I have on Humble are from 2013 - Origin Bundle. But I get rid of Steam keys already, only origin are left.

I think the idea of the group specifically for older keys is a great solution for the problem. That is why I joined one.

I removed my unused Desura keys from my spare keys document a while back. But I still had some on Groupees though. Desura went bust around 2015, right? And Groupees have keys for Desura right up until near the end.

Normally don't leave mine at all. Most I'll go is about a month if I buy the hb bundle and want it for gas the next month. I have been lazy this year though so I'm 3 keys away from being done from the Ukraine bundles

Yeah I had that when doing the gas for the train, I went actually I'll take that one. Despite months ago clearly saying nah. Or like those dark pictures games. At the time I wasn't sure cuz I knew a focus was on multiplayer while now I don't care and wish I just activated it/brought it
