I know the policy states:

  • When you submit an IndieRoyale Bundle, it is only acceptable to have an unactivated gift URL to provide to the winner. Members giving away Steam keys and the like will be warned, have their giveaways removed, and if they continue, may result in a suspension.

  • These rules also apply to additional keys within the Humble Bundle. Please do not giveaway separate keys, such as Sanctum, or create a giveaway for the leftover Desura keys. Unused URLs for the original Humble only, please.

So basically I shouldn't give away my copy of A.R.E.S. Extinction Agenda that came with the bundle even though I own it already. I suppose I could leave it in activation limbo or toss it on a random forum, but I keep noticing giveaways of this game or games from other bundles (with separate activation keys, a la Spacechem) that specifically reference sending a Steam key to the winner. Am I just finding the giveaways that have slipped through the cracks or are the majority still being removed/warned/banned?

Basically I want to give away A.R.E.S. but would like to abide by the rules. It is a genuine extra copy for me that will go to waste otherwise.

EDIT

Found the answer in one of the giveaways I was mentioning:

  • Hello, XXXXXXX. If this and your DLC giveaways are from the IndieRoyale bundle, I will have to remove them all. Please update your description where they are from if not from IndieRoyale.

So if I guess I just need clarification on if it's okay to gift an extra game key through a Private giveaway.

If you want to gift it so badly just get in any suitable forum find someone who is interested in it and send it to them. Done.

That's sort of why I'm here at Steamgifts.com.

Well as you so nicely mentioned in your post the rules clearly state you can not raffle your spare key of ARES. So you can not use the site's raffle system to distribute it. Hence, like I said you could resort to the forum either this one or whichever other one you might like to find someone who's interested and just give it to them.

Just looking for a mod response, as you can see (below) there is a bit of confusion with what the mods will allow in private versus public giveaways.

Essentially, I'm wondering whether I can give away an extra game key here that I obtained legitimately through purchase.

I'm fully aware I can just give it away outside of Steamgifts (see my OP), no need to keep suggesting that. I'd like to give it away on this site.

Then if you are looking specifically for a mod answer why are you using the forum? There's a feature for contacting mods directly and that's the Support one. Open a ticket there and clarify your question there..

You're right, I forgot about the support feature.

Anyway, looks like it's against the TOS for Humble and Indie Royale bundles to share portions of the bundle- which is likely why it's against the rules here and I now assume that extends to private giveaways.

I think you can make a private giveaway.

Do a private giveaway. AFAIK, they're not subject to the same guidelines as public giveaways.

Not true. They must follow the same rules. However they are not controlled like public raffles. But if they are reported to a mod they will be dealt the same way as the others.

Nope, I know from someone who asked the mods, specifically about the extra copies from the Indie Royale Bundle, that it is allowed to give those away in a private or group giveaway.
Which makes sense, since the only problem with those games being given away as single keys is, that this would create massive amounts of points, but only if those are public.

There was a specific mod response to a question exactly like this that stated pretty much what Pias said. If I cared enough I'd look it up, but I don't, so I wont. I for one am going to obey the Mod post rather than what your friend told you a Mod told him.

No, Pias is correct. And no, that is NOT the only problem with humble games.
Distributing separate keys from the Bundles is against the TOS for both Humble Bundles and Indie Royale Bundles. Also the whole 1ct dilemma.

Yeah, I talked to lokonopa and Pias is right, but it is NOT against the TOS of the Indie Royale Bundles to give away your Steam keys, which was confirmed by the Sanctum devs and the people behind the Indie Royale Bundle and the 1ct dilemma does NOT apply here either, because there is a minimum amount, you have to pay.

Ignore these guys, the site doesn't really care what you do in private raffles, so put in there. if you can't select it, just pick a cheap game or one of the same value.

I'm not really familiar with how mods treat them when they are private giveaways, like it has been mentioned private ones are enforced differently to public ones but some rules would still apply. If this was a Humble Bundle I would say the answer would be no due to exploitation and such, however as the Royale Bundles don't have such problems I would say it would be OK as a private giveaway, but yeah I wouldn't do it unless I got permission from a mod first.

Also if a mod happens to read this post, regarding the newest Bundle; since the only Bundles with stuff to be redeemed on Steam is only for above average purchases (at the moment, we don't know about what will happen if or when Voxatron is complete), how will this be dealt with?

I know the Humble Bundle pages say "Note: all keys are for your personal use only." so to give away some of the games from the bundle is something you're not supposed to do. I suspect the Royale one might have a similar clause.

There's this in their ToS:

You must not: disclose any keys or logins for any Account to any other person; nor allow any other person access any part of the System through your Account.

This obviously covers giving your bundle link to others, but I'm not sure about Steam keys. I don't think you could call them "keys for an account".

This clarifies it perfectly for me, thanks for posting this. This is probably the reason it is against the rules here as well it seems :)

Sorry I didn't think to look it up myself.
