Heute ist Freitag, alles wird gut!
Silly humour aside, sorry to hear that it wasn't as successful as you'd hoped. It can be frustrating when something you've put a lot of time and preparation into receives a tepid response, or just doesn't succeed for some reason. A shame, because your event looked like sneaky fun times :) I dunno, maybe have the main GA last longer next time? I wish you better luck and success with whatever you do next.

It wasn't the length. I seriously doubt there are 1000 individuals actually highly active users on the forums who could even open such a giveaway or actually bother to post it on their Steam wall. The SG forums only represent a very tiny, almost insignificantly small percentage of the actual user base, it is just a lot louder than the other 99.998% combined.

For what it's worth, the link to SillyScream's GA never even reached me through any channel. Are 1000 individual comments too optimistic a goal for this? May well be the case. Allowing more time for it to spread probably would have helped, though. It's a shame that we'll never get to know how far it could have gone. I personally would have chosen to let it run for 3-4 weeks in such a scenario, I think.

The

part.
It takes only one person to post it on their wall and someone with the less scrupulous groups to drop it publicly. Not to mention that it is a known secret that there is a Russian forum that leaks every private giveaway link they can find. Their users are the primary "customers" on the SGTools suspension list.
But neither groups of people are actually known to be active in conversations. With the latter, it is especially understandable.

You shouldn't be so disappointed - as far as I know, it was the first event with this type of criteria, so you have absolutely nothing to compare it to, and this is now the first data point that can be used to give you a realistic expectation for future events. If you had run it exactly the same as last year's event and couldn't get the half as many entries in the same time period, that would be worth analysing, but even then, there are many factors that could influence the participation, such as the details of the event, how effective the marketing was, even things like national holidays meaning that people from particular countries are not at home at the time of the event recruitment. Just treat this as the first indication of what is realistic. I remember being really disappointed at the turn out of the first professional association seminar that I was involved with running. This changed to surprise when the staff told me that the numbers didn't surprise them because only 75% of the people that have registered to attend typically turn up.

Hm, the entries to comment ration was actually quite good. But you also had a lot less entries than before and I don't think the game is the problem here? Was the origin of the event both times the same? Like you used the activity feed on your Steam profile or the same group to share the link the first time?. With such a spread and share principle the first step is one of the most important.
Other than that there is also a certain amount of luck involved to keep these things running. But I understand your disappointment. I feel it sometimes too ^^

That's sad. But even if you didn't got required number of comments, I must say that it was a good event and some fun for participants. That's important, right?

To be honest, this isn't globally particularly rewardfull, since there will be only one winner. And you require 1000 x 40 p from community in a private event.
40 000 points that people wouldn't use on other numerous giveaways. + asking to actively perform actions as commenting and sharing to friends.
I am not against that kind of events. But if we consider multiple events of that kind, it doesn't seems to me to be sustainable.
Small things will boost your events : some people sharing your giveaway to huge public groups like steam trading groups or indie gala or else, will make it meet your requirements. Maybe it has not happened this time.
So don't be so disappointed and be prepared for next time.^^

1,000 individual comments in 6 days was a bit unrealistic. Was a lofty goal to reach, a few years back a very popular forum creator did something similar but openly on the forums and required their to be just 1,000 comments in a day I think it was for GTA:V. That took some serious shitposting from a lot of people to come close.
2,000 entries is pretty easy in comparison, you can see public giveaways get four times that amount easily.
I dunno, cool idea, all for unique things. Think it was a tad optimistic.

gonna do the second one for New Year, if somebody disappoints me, he\she gets exterminated (from my events)

I'm watching a bit the forums and didn't cross this GA so I guess it might have lacked publicity ?
Where did you start to put the link?
