Yesterday I played Heroes of Might and Magic III, a classic turnbased strategy game first released in 1999. And also yesterday I played a quick match of Age of Empires II, another game from 1999 (that was a good year for games!).
Considering starting the Krynn series from the Gold box range. Recently downloaded that one from GOG, first one in that one is from 1990.

I still have a savegame that needs finishing for M&M3... Great game.
It's been a time after I play older games but I like the original UFO and I plan to play in not much time.
On 4th May I started playing X-Wing. How old has it aged :D
And I have on eye on Warcraft I and II. I was looking if there was a remaster for this and it seems on WC3 there is a mod for that.
And plenty more (dune2).... I only need more free time.
All those games are from 1992-1994, when I started to play regularly... Good old times!

X-wing does hold up surprisingly well, though I do think the Wing Commander series has aged even better!
The old RTSs can be a bit hit or miss though. Only being able to select a really small handful of units (I think it was 4 in Warcraft 1) is such a pain!

Quake from time to time, and (not Steam) Links 2003, still the best (for me) golf sim ever, with dozens of real official courses, and hundreds of fan-made real and fantasy courses. A shame M$ bought Access to make one good version, a decent following, and then port it to XBox to let it die.

diablo II
imperialism
master of orion II
to name only a few I played most recently :)

Well I just 100%ed WItcher 2 on GoG yesterday after playing it for a full week.
As for "from time to time" for me it's Splinter Cell Conviction

Warband, and even occasionally the original Mount & Blade (which, apparently, I have 260ish hours in on Steam, definitely some more on Epic too).
Others that I dip back into are OG Doom, Quake, the Broken Sword series (and various other point and clickers).
Oh god, Half Life.
I could keep going but I'm getting slightly depressed at the eternal steps of time.

Currently playing Deus Ex GOTY for the first time and I am amazed they made a game that much ahead of its time. If it came out right now with no changes and just with current graphics quality it would still have gotten so many positive reactions.
Other than this, the oldest games I still play from time to time are Super Mario Bros 3 (SNES version), some 90s LucasArts gems like Monkey Island 1-3 and Day of the Tentacle and as obvious from my username, Grim Fandango

I played through Super Mario Bros the other day, and do so every few months, so yeah...
It holds a lot of nostalgia for me, being my mother's favorite game, and being part of one of the oldest memories I have from when I was a very small child, so I boot up an emulator every so often to play through it for nostalgia's sake. Love it every time.

Last year I was playing through a lot of games that would qualify (Sonic Adventure 1, Kirby 64, Duke Nukem Manhattan Project, REZ, etc) but I think everything that I played so far this year came out after 2012.
Edit: I checked and Bejeweled 3 is from 2010, so I guess that one counts.

I try to not because of backlog, but sometimes I just have to play some of mine all time favorites:
postal 2
stronghold crusader
serious sam
fallout 1 or 2 or tactics
Fun fact - I couldn't finish FT on my last attempt (about year ago) because I abused random encounters xD I tried to find them all - and inndeed I found them all... So when I was travelling to last base - and there was forced random encounter on the way... Game crashed , because there was no random encounters left xD

I'm surprised that you consider before 2012 as "old". You must be a zoomer. I've got a collection of CDs and cartridges going back to the early 1990s and here's a selection of some of the stuff I play:
Doom series
Descent series
Civilization series
Rollercoaster tycoon
Command & Conquer, Warcraft, Age of Empires
and a bunch more
A couple of oddballs I go back to every now and again are Wordtris, Final Fantasy 5, and some Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune games and the DOS version of Classic Concentration.

Sometimes I replay old RPGs that I have good memories of, like Gothic. This year I played the old Divine Divinity series from GOG with full HD support. Still great stuff.
I also play Quake and Doom II every few years when there are enough new mods, maps and engines again.

Good topic. Looking on steam, games that I'm actively playing from before 2012 include:
Super meat boy
Sonic Adventure
Portal 2
Terraria
And then I still play No one lives forever 1 and 2 some times and Battlefield 2 with the kids.
On the console front, there are plenty, still play through Paper Mario on my gamecube every few years, and pull out other classics to play with the kids from time to time.

I'm quite curious what old games people still play to this day. For me, it's the Aqua Nox series as well as Magic Carpet amongst the few others I still own on both steam and GOG.
