Yeesh I've been pretty lazy lately, no? hahahha, nonetheless here is this weeks ranking! #23 was my personal favorite.

FAQ

What is a VOCALOID?

  • A VOCALOID is a voice synthesizing program. You have to buy the program, anyone can use it to create songs (quite similar to Nightcore)

Well then, why are there like little girls then?

  • Those are just models that were created for the song. It would be quite boring to just listen to a song and not see a person actually dance. It is also another way to portray art since many Artists come up with costumes along with the producers of the song itself.

Okay so I get this VOCALOID stuff, what is an UTAU?

  • UTAU's are a different software than the VOCALOID synthesizer. UTAU projects are actually freeware (meaning anyone is free to download them). There are many different variations of UTAU's, though some are more popular (such as Teito)

So is that Miku girl the only VOCALOID?

  • No, there is actually a list of VOCALOIDS that came first:
    1. Meiko Sakine (No Number)
    2. Kaito Shion (No Number)
    3. Hatsune Miku (01)
    4. Len Kagamine(02)
    5. Rin Kagamine (02)
    6. Luka Megurine (03)

There are others such as Lily, Gakupo, GUMI, etc. However they weren't part of the original few.

NND? What does that mean?

  • Stands for Nico Nico Douga, a website that gained popularity from VOCALOIDS. Eventually it became a website known to many gamers, Otakus, etc. It's not necessarily the youtube of Japan, but it comes close.

So a NND Artist is like... a Youtube Artist?

  • Yes, but they aren't just limited to NND, they have many other accounts elsewhere (some even on youtube)

I've never heard of a NND Artist, they must not be famous then

Not true, if you've watched anime several NND artists have sang opening songs.

Ever watched My Little Sister Can't Be This Cute? (Ore no Imōto ga Konna ni Kawaii Wake ga Nai?)

Nano has also been getting some fame, a very popular NND artist who moved to Japan from America (She originally lived in New York)

  • Sang the opening to BTOOM!!! and Phi Brain 2nd Season (her account)

Some are in actual bands, others are VA (Voice Actors), a lot more are dancers, They do Live Concerts as well. A fairly large fanbase, I've only been keeping track of NND artists for about two years... others have been with them since 2007.

EDIT: About the Rib Cover of him singing Mechanical Pierrot, I apologize, but I couldn't find a clear song cover of him singing. Yes there are NND dancers, but I don't know much about them other than that xD... I watch them sparingly

Ah you meant Nagi's. Yes she is a NND artist. Her stage name was Gazelle, she was a verrryyyy old NND artist, but she quit. She's now a professional singer and goes by the name Yanagi Nagi xD

She also deleted her old NND account, I would send it to you... but yeah it's gone >.>
