Well that took a long time. Guess there was no real need for price reduction when it's still selling like crazy.

I have no interest in the online half of it so I'll just wait for it to drop to the point of it being worth the risk, I haven't played any GTA before so I'm not sure if I'll like it.

I would have bought it this sale- it finally hit a price range I can accept- but the way Rockstar has been handling online is so exceptionally unprofessional and risky for consumers, that I don't wanna invest too much money into the game. Not just for not wanting to overly support them, but also 'cause the risk of losing half your game for no reason gets all the worse the more you've spent.

There's still a decent sized single player campaign to enjoy. Think GTA Online as a bonus.

Think GTA Online as a bonus.

Even if you can separate it that way, that's still not relevant to the point being made, though.
Unless you've absolutely no interest in online whatsoever, and no care about how poorly companies treat their players, then you still need to factor in the potential expense of repurchase, and the potential risk of encouraging future misbehaviors. Since I do have some degree of interest in online, it's impossible to evaluate what an acceptable purchase investment value would be, solely off the single-player campaign alone.

Got it free with my PS3 a few years ago. Still haven't done more than 3 missions. Little point buying another copy. :P

I sold the PS3 version a year later for more than I paid for it, then bought it on Steam for less than that. Profit? :)

The more I watch abut it, the more it feels like any random UbiSoft open-world game with a much better production quality but the same core design of having more fluff to fluff about than actual story. And the more I try them, the less I think I'll ever be able to enjoy the fuckaroundery genre.
Even in San Andreas, I was getting really bored with the side content. I was okay with the police/ambulance/firefighter/taxi ones, sometimes even did the courier missions and the races, but the territory-claiming, most of the collectibles, and the car delivery ones I cannot remember the last time I finished without using the megatrainer to just teleport around and quickly be done with it (if I ever bothered with them beyond the collectibles to unlock the weapon stashes).
(Even then, I just keep a save file where I did most of the side content before even starting the prologue mission, so I can replay the game without redoing about 4 hours of fluff.)

My buy point would be somewhere under twenty bucks, but I was exceptionally fortunate and managed to get the game on here 3 years ago in a very casual giveaway for casual gamers, which was v. nice.
I liked the game, enough to fool around for like 80 hours. Didn't even touch the online tho.

Well it took their fucking time.
Now they're just gonna put it in a 25% discount everytime.

That would make it slightly more expensive than it was during the Summer Sale (which was it's historical low) but still a better price than it's previous sales.

It's odd, to me, that this confusion about the existence of differing opinions seem common on forums I frequent. I've never been able to get used to it and can't help to ask when I see someone trying to make points like this.

I don't know, I just treat info like that facts. Like I really don't know who the fuck and why buys shark cards for GTA 5 because it's a very different thing than something I would do, but apparently they do, so there is a demand for it. Chalk one up for "people are weird" and close the case :D

Permalink

In this case, I wouldn't even say weird. I can easily see how someone, with an abundance of money and not particularly concerned about the principle behind things, would consider paying to get ahead in a heavily socially influenced game to be a good thing.

My point however, or rather what I'm puzzled about is the, in my experience, very frequent confusion about differing opinions. More precisely the seeming lack of understanding that the mere fact they exist doesn't make "people" inconsistent.

GTA Online is a mess, but it's still a high quality game. A great single-player, a beautiful world and visuals. The Online is grindy, but the gameplay's still good.

It's hard not to recommend it to people who are interested. I'm frustrated with their financial practices, but the game itself is still so good.

I just bought it this sale, should I refund it and wait for when it becomes cheaper? I don't have the pc to run it anyway but I'm afraid it won't sell as cheap until next winter sale and I might build a computer until then. Any advice?

refund!! dont support as*-moves rockstar ..1 day after sale is.....

Comment has been collapsed.

True but at least they did it 1 day after sale so people can still refund, instead of changing it exactly after 2 weeks (or 1 month as CDPR did last year).

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Are you saying that CDPR should have waited more than a month or that they shouldn't have changed the price at all?

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

They should either have waited a bit more or should have changed it in the two weeks after their previous sale. I'm not saying they shouldn't have changed it at all because lower prices are always welcome even if I don't benefit from them. But changing it exactly one month (if I remember correctly) after your last sale is a bit scummy.

That's an oddly specific timeframe for when a price change is considered scummy imho.

Ok, I guess everyone is entitled to their own opinion

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Well I'm curious then, in what timeframe would you consider it scummy? Also things are always oddly specific when talking about opinions, aren't they?

Of course it's just my opinion, shouldn't even be mentioned because I'm not that dumb to consider my opinions as facts. I'm entitled to it but I'm still up to debate or even willing to change them if proven stupid.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I really don't know. I can't imagine a situation where I'd consider it scummy for a company to decrease the asking price of a product. This feels similar to when some get upset about when a company decides to release a product for free to the public that they have paid for in the past.

Are things always oddly specific when talking about opinions? It's not something I've considered before and I can honestly not find a good argument to support this.

I don't consider it scummy when a company decreases the asking price or releases their product for free. I already said I welcome it, games lower their prices and go free all the time, it would be stupid to be angry over all of them. But I consider it scummy when they just had a sale and then fuck the customers up by changing the price not long after the refund period is over. Why couldn't they change it in the two weeks after their previous sale, like Rockstar did? I know they love their money but I can't consider it anything other than scummy, perhaps I'm a bit influenced by the other shady stuff that goes on with their employees at CDPR. Despite all the hate Rockstar gets lately, they have my respect of being considerate about their customers at least this once.

Are you ok even if a company has a sale on a particular game and then the minute sale is over they lower their price or release it for free without your ability to refund? If yes, then you have a very high tolerance to their bullshit and I don't know if I should be envious on you or not.

Everyone has opinions that have oddly specific details distinct only to them, mine in this case is about the lowering price crap.

I actually wanted to buy it a while back for about the current price but that was like a year ago. Now it's such an old game that I'm on to playing other things that I don't need another time sink.

That and I had bought it Day 1 on PS3 so it was really to get it on PC and have fun at higher settings.
