I made a mistake early in my Steamgifts run. I won two copies of Insurgency at the same time. Due to being an idiot both of them got used up by me. I marked as received as I did receive them but now as I look around and see things going on here, HOLY CRAP I feel completely shunned because I made a mistake. It seems like an honest mistake has left me as scum in the eyes of quite a few of you. I use to enjoy looking around the forums for trains and the like but now I just feel like shit cause every other post about how anyone who does x, y, or z is horrible and should be banned from the site. The use of sgtools is like a sniper's laser dot on the bull's eye that is a double win I can never erase.
Am I really that awful or is this a case of vocal minority?

How did you manage to redeem two copies of the same game to your account?

Humble bundle email confusion, didn't realize I was activating both until it was too late.

There was an issue with Humble Bundle previously where you can activate an already owned game to your account, due to how key activation worked with HB. They've removed it already after alot of people complained

Currently, if you just click on the button of the game, it generates a key for you to manually input into Steam, yes?

Previously, Humble tried to enact this measure to prevent key resellers. The intention was good, but it screwed over too many careless people as well. If you clicked on the button then, it won't generate a serial key, but DIRECTLY put the game into your steam account. So even though you already had the game, Humble would redeem the game ot your account again, preventing you from ever accessing that game or key again. It was really quite shitty. I lost a Garry's Mod key that way >_<

Humble let you deactivate one of the keys and would send a new key to the original purchaser, so it's still an issue of the winner not following through properly. I've yet to hear of a single instance where Humble won't try and fix a mishap on their end [no matter how much they could choose to justify it] with either a refund or a deactivation.

There is, of course, a time limit for how long they're willing to do that, so the OP is almost certainly out of luck in this instance, due to not following through as soon as they realized their mistake.

If I were you I would have given one of the Steam keys back to the GA creator and explained what happened, but it's probably too late for that now.

This was back when you could click a link for activation on Steam, keys were never provided. Due to Humble Bundle being the way it was, it used up the key anyway.

Oh, I see.

Yeah, that's an honest mistake, but unfortunately it's one you were responsible for, and you didn't take any steps to make it right. I don't think you should be banned or anything. I wouldn't even say it's blacklist worthy. But it's fair that some people might not want you joining their private GAs.

I can understand and accept that, but it seems like like people get a very toxic attitude over things like this. Reading the forums seems to imply a complete zero tolerance policy from quite a few.

I mean, you shouldnt be banned, but I can see people blacklisting you when/if they check sgtools. Just because Im curious, why didnt you try to get it sorted out when it happened? At this point, with both of them being inactive, you might want to check with support and see if something can be done, but Im not sure.

Support will not help you. I had the same case a few months ago and even though one person blocked me and another was inactive for 9 months and unlikely to ever return, I had to continue tracking them down (in the end barely made it).

Yea thats kind of what I thought would probably happen. I saw someone lower in the comments offer to give him a copy to trade back to one of the guys he won from, so hopefully that works out for him. Im glad you got yours fixed though :)

You probably already had to serve a suspension from SG, so having to further pay what, a $15 dollar full price game just to rectify a innocent mistake seems like overkill. But then again, alot of people here want to power trip with blacklisting, so, that's pretty overkill anyway as ewll.

Besides what Windofmemory said, I mainly use this site cause I do not have money. Winning games if one of the few ways I can get them.

that's OK but I don't think that the problem now is how they see you but that you probably don't pass the sgtools check
well anyway don't know if support can help you but mistakes sometimes can cost you a bit more.ao I'd you feel ok about yourself leave it like that
else you can try find em via steam

If you are willing to try and contact the two people in question on Steam (both are still active there) and see if either of them would be willing to perform a reroll I have a spare Insurgency key you could have to give to them. If you feel this is worth a shot add a friend request to me on Steam & I'll let you have the key this evening (GMT). It might be a long shot but worth a try. I'd just ask that if it doesn't work out with them you gift the key on SG.

Hopefully nothing against the rules with what I am proposing? ..

Why would this be against the rules? If anything, what you're offering should be encouraged. Respect.

I feel you man, I made an honest mistake as well, I activated a won game on my alternate account accidentaly few months ago - Velvet Assasin, reported myself to support right after I noticed it (same day I activated it), proved to them it is my alternate account, but I still got banned for 5 days. Not too fair for reporting myself and proving my mistake in my opinion, but I accepted it, game is rather cheap (around 1$) and mostly bundled.
I had a choice from support to either get a ban for 5 days or buy that game, I chose 5 days ban, because I refused to buy it since I proved it was just a mistake. Although I was punished by moderators, I'm also constantly punished by steamgifts users blacklisting me and not allowing me to join their giveaways thanks to SGtools. I kinda accepted it now, got back to steamgifts after 5 months break and I'm currently looking to trade something for that missing game, although still no luck. Not gonna buy it though, don't want to spend money, I don't have much.

I didn't knew that could happen with O-Auth but another reason I'm glad Humble Bundle got rid of it and started issuing keys again. I'm afraid as others have said there's not much you can do since both GA-creators have been inactive on SG for quite some time. But maybe it still helps a little to know that I doubt people who use SGTools would consider you scum... rather collateral damage among the real notorious rulebreakers. Afterall SGTools is a program and unless we tell it to it can't destinguish between 1 double win ages ago or 3 recent ones + tons of non activation. But recently I've seen a custom rule for SGTools that only counts double-wins and non-activations within a set duration (to give people a chance who have made a mistake long time ago but have familiarized themselves with the rules since then) so maybe that catches on ;)

So since your honest mistake (a year ago) you have won about 25 games and given nothing.
I'd say you've been pretty successful (at least from a leeching point of view).

Honest mistake, or not - it might not look as bad for you if there was some effort (even a very minimal one) to give back even a portion of what you take. Perhaps some sign of good faith, Just complaining about the rules and how hard you were done by - and how sgtools is slowing your win rate: not the best approach.
