From 2013 Activision is moving away from Steam and will only sell Digital Versions via bnet. This move will take a while and some games will still use Steamworks, but that doesn't matter.

The developer Eurocom who worked on a lot of the recent ones had to lay a bunch of people off, but that shouldn't affect current availability.

This happens all the time with licensed games. Activision had it, and most likely just lost it or didn't want to renew it. They probably had rights to sell them until the end of 2012. It's why if you look at the lists of removed stuff, a huge chunk of that is licensed. Ghostbusters, Godfather, Lost, Hulk, Iron Man, etc.

TLDR: If it's based on a movie, book or TV show get it while you can. If a publishers loses interest there's a good chance they won't reapply to renew the license unless it's a hit series.
