Not the best graphics card but I THINK it would be fine, probably no worse then the console version. Maybe someone that has that card can say, the rest of your computer is alright.

Yea...the 6450 isn't really...adequate. I don't think it'll be able to keep you locked to 30fps at all times in the game, definitely not.

If you already have Dark Souls on your PS3, just wait, as the DLC should only be about $15, whereas if you buy it on PC (at the moment at least), you would be out $40.

The game is locked at 30 fps, plus the textures are muddy looking but you can get a texture mod for the game to make it look better. It's definitely a good game and worth the buy if you can overlook the shitty port they did.

I think it says a lot about a company when it takes over a year to make a port and they still couldn't make a good port, yet it took someone a few days to make a texture mod that makes the game look great. Note: the mod is only in an alpha stage so it will only get better.

Mod here if anyone is interested.

Yeah, I wouldn't recommend using a keyboard and mouse because of the bad job they did porting it. I personally use a 360 pad.

My bad, it's been almost 11 months...

Also, they have made PC games before:

Sword of Moonlight: King's Field Making Tool, Ninja Blade, and Dark Souls is their third

You mean 8 months since the petition was made? And 5 since it was confirmed to be in production? Yeah, because 5 or 8 = 11. I haven't heard even a single hint of it being in production before then.

And yes, I mean inexperience, my bad. Although, I think it says something that they released a creation tool anda game I didn't even know was on PC.

Does it matter if its locked at 30FPS?

It just means it won't look as nice as it would otherwise. The console version is also locked to 30 fps.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

But why? If you computer is powerful enough to keep it running at 30FPS is it even an issue?

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I guess it really doesn't matter if your PC is good enough to run it at a steady 30 fps, but even with some high end PC's if you decide to record with Fraps you will still get a drop in frames. If it was 60 fps and you get a slight drop while recording you wouldn't notice but at 30 fps you'll notice the difference.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Well then the only issue about 30FPS is recording? Then its hardly an issue? I might be missing something here, but every time I see the 30FPS issue I wonder if its actually an issue

It's not just with recording, that was just one example I gave. This might explain it a bit better than I can.

The animation is less fluid than it would have been if they had designed the game differently. It's a flaw in the game, not specifically a flaw in the port. The PC version will likely be equal to the PS3 version.

...except that, without modding, the graphics are locked to 720p and will only upscale if you increase the resolution.

Also, this is the graphics options menu for Dark Souls.

Anti-Aliasing: [ON/off]

Not 2x/4x/8x/16x AA, on-off.

Don't buy it. The port is so horrible that it's totally unplayable without a controller, the resolution is locked and FPS limit is 30. Buying this game is like telling the publishers that it's totally acceptable to port it so poorly and in near future all the ports are as shotty as this.

Resolution is not locked, the fps is locked at 30. You can still change the resolution and with the mod you can get hd better looking textures.

^ ExzoSSG is right. The resolution is not locked at all.

Comment has been collapsed.

By default the internal rendering resolution of the game is 1280 x 700 regardless of whatever resolution you set in the options menu. The image is just scaled to whatever resolution you set there, it does not change the actual number of pixels being rendered. The console version works the same way, it's just upscaled to a fixed 1280 x 720 instead of giving you a choice.

To actually render the game in a higher resolution you need the user-created DSFix DirectX wrapper, which lets you select the actual rendering resolution (and other options) in its INI file.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

It's locked by default, you can "force" the resolution you want via that fix mentioned above, i've tried it(on my cpt. Sparrow Version) and it works awesome with the fix.

It just means that it won't have a higher framerate than the console version. 60 FPS looks better than 30 FPS.

The resolution is locked, but can be forced to run in other resolutions, making it look a lot nicer. As for the controls, yes i recommend you to use a controller, personally i'm using a PS2 controller with an Xbox360 pad emulator, works like a charm after that.

In regards to performance, due to several reasons i found myself testing some overclocks on my old Ati 4850 (yeah, an old 4850) and found the game was running flawlessly at 1600x900, with stock frequencies and overclocked (rest of the system is i5 2500K, 8gb ram ddr3 1600mhz, Win7 x64)

The games internal resolution is locked at 1024x720 like the consoles. Changing the resolution in the ingame menu, simply upscales from 1024x720, which is why it gives off that blurry grainy nasty look. However, one modder found out a way to unlock the internal resolution in 23 minutes, something the whole dev team couldn't do in all of their time and resources developing the game.

Not 23 minutes. He was working on the framework for a .dll to fix it for a week. Still, a community with fans will outperform the devs most of the time, especially in this case where the devs don't know how to develop for PC (not holding that against them, they admitted it, and pushed this out anyways for people wanting it. That's rare).

Seems pretty impossible, sadly. The way this game is made, improving FPS would actually speed up the gameplay as well. So, for example, if you ran the game at 60 FPS, the game's speed would double.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

They said the same about L.A. Noire, because the live action face capture technology they used for the game was at 30 fps, but surprisingly the 60 fps fix didn't mess up the faces..it did mess up the driving a bit though, but not game breaking.

The level of entitlement some people feel is amazing to me. The game looks and runs as well as the console version, so people are bitching because the product they're getting isn't better than everyone else's? That's something a 6 year old would do.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

No, people are bitching that this game's being forced to work within the limitations of an eight-year-old machine when today's computers are capable of far, far, far more. It "looks and runs as well as the console version", sure, but that's at 1024x720@30FPS.

That's the sign of a poor PC port -- it's not optimized in the least. The keyboard and mouse controls are awful, because it was designed and optimized for a controller.

If you were to buy a Bugatti Veyron for $1.2 million, would you fuel it up with the same Regular Unleaded that ordinary people fill up their 20-year-old junkers with?

Anytime a game on the PC has crappy graphics and crappy controls, people complain. It has nothing to do with it being a port. They're complaining about poor production and design choices that were made when releasing a PC game on a PC.

Don't listen to me, i have high expectations for any game, but here you go:

Don't buy it. The whole game is a half-work (especially on pc). It suffers by the bad controlls (both xbox360 and pc, i didn't have the chance to try it on ps3) and it's a dead end against these hard enemys. The difficulty would be entertaining, but the contolls kills it. Seriously, even The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time have a miles better target system. The graphics are not top-notch, but i don't care about it, it looks okay, but nothing more, maybe a little too dark sometimes.
The soundtrack is ok, but sometimes i got the feeling, that they copyed some track from the old Chaos Legion game. Don't know why tho.
The final stike is the terrible port for the pc. It's... garbage, but the others already told this.

If you like hard games and don't have a console this is worth your money! but if you are a gfx whore that value that over gameplay or don't want a hard time (that will frustrate you all the time) then don't buy it

Since you already played it and like it I would recommend you wait for the dlc on ps3.. unless you really want it on the pc (you can use a controller if you normaly do that so thats no prob either)
