the price is good but many reviews are negative

Don't buy it then! Play Hollow Knight instead.

While Hollow Knight is a better choice, I think it's a little overrated.
Sure, visuals and characters are fantasting when you start playing it until midway. After that the only cool thought I had was "nice a cool powerup", then during late game is was just...mediocre. Also everyone praised it like it was a nice challenge, but it's actually pretty easy if you played some metroidvania games, idk about Grimm tho since I still need to do it.
Also the starting characters are really cool, most of the secret ones are just fanservice.

I just wrote that because he won the game 8 months ago and hasn't launched it even once. So instead of wanting to buy more games, he should maybe consider taking a look at his backlog.

Read the reviews and consider whether they would apply to you, then decide.

So here's the situation with the game. It's 73% positive out of almost 32k reviews.

Recently a lot of people left the game due to a bad exploit where people would be able to get on top of the cabins. The really good news is that I read they finally fixed it.

The big issue that's hurt the game for awhile was there's a legal dispute over the rights. Unfortunately the game won't be seeing anymore content. The devs will still be updating things and keeping the servers running though.

The game is on sale on HB for $3.99 and if you have the HB monthly then you can get it for $3.19. That's really cheap and looks like a great pickup for that price.

Recently? I heard of that months after release.

I had a hard time getting the game to work after a while since something caused it to kick me from every game or some other multitude of errors occurred to crash my game. Month 1 problems.
It should be better by then, but you really are dealing with slow gameplay and the Jason exploits that negate many of your attacks by simply tapping in another direction or instablocks hurts the game.

Yes, you are correct, that's been around for awhile and thousands of people did leave awhile ago due to that and the other issues with the game. More recently, June, several thousand people started playing on Steam which was a huge jump on Steam to previous months. There was a patch that was supposed to take care of the big cabin issue and while it was fixed for consoles it wasn't fixed for PC, so unfortunately thousands of people left recently from Steam. From my understanding they finally did fix the issue and with the deep sale on HB right now I wouldn't be surprised to see lots of people pick up the game and a good amount return. So my first comment was mainly addressing from June till now.

4v1 games don't work so don't waste your time with such games.

The 26k players on Dead By Daylight just on Steam would probably disagree with you.

Imo if you are looking for an asymmetrical game which is identical to Dead by Daylight you should think about buying yourself Deathgarden rather than Friday the 13th. It's definetely more worth it.

Game can't put out any new content due to legal rights. I'd get Dead by Daylight for $10 when it's on sale (frequently). They churn out steady new content for it and it's a blast.

That game is dead. Yes there are people playing it but not many of them. Most of them are toxic even. I don't think DBD is way better than Friday 13th but if you consider buying i would recommend DBD. I regret buying friday 13th even I bought it as a bundle.

I bought it to support it because I really liked watching Youtubers play it, DBD is a bit different and not as interesting to me, it just doesn't put out as much funny or fun moments. As mentioned before, due to legal reasons, Friday 13th won't be getting any updates so the player base has mostly left. I haven't seen deathgarden gameplay yet but since it's new, I'd imagine if you want something to play with lots of people online to choose between deathgarden or DBD instead.

F13 is a weird game with strangely poor controls and maneuverability, and characters with weird plastic faces. I'd say watch a few streams to see if it looks like something you'd like.

The main issues IMO:

  • the learning curve is steep,
  • survivors ("counselors") often team up with the killer ("Jason") simply because they are friends who joined as a group but one got assigned the killer role,
  • some survivors are trolls who hide / retain useful items on purpose, and
  • there are a bunch of premade teams who don't try to escape but rather to kill Jason, which can be quite unfun to play against as Jason when you begin (unless they tweaked the game since the last time I played, even if you're a good Jason you'll have serious trouble against a good Jason-hunting team)

Killing Jason takes a lot of effort even if you have a stomp group. I took down entire groups who massed inside one building, by not being stupid and also letting friendly fire weaken the lot.

:o They finally re-enabled friendly fire? Ok, this could indeed make it much harder to gang up against Jason

I only played the first two months. I never heard of them turning off FF.

At release, it was enabled for some time, maybe half a year or so. And because some troll survivors attacked other survivors they disabled it and it stayed this way for as long as I kept playing, despite all the complaints about it. That was pretty ridiculous, most notably it turned the shotgun from a very risky save, where you could kill the grabbed counselor and maybe another nearby, into a guaranteed save :s
(and yes, during the first 2 months people didn't have the skills yet to reliably kill Jason, Jason killing was really a rare occurrence)

When it comes down to the whole experience after the dozens of hours from release, it is not worth it at this point. The external pressures killed the fun out of the game.
