Team Fortress 2, because it's fun, got gamemodes, a sweet economy, good developers that actually care about their fans, real outside colors instead of your usual grand-ma gray, modes, comics, meet-the videos, fun characters, a wide variety of maps that aren't made by valve, stats that doesn't even matter, being killed doesn't mean the end of the world for retards, glitches incorporated in the game instead of getting banned for using them, lots of hats and fun weapons to use, most importantly: No dlc while Call of Duty makes you pay for maps that Tf2's modder could just insert freely and face It, Call of Duty will never be as good as Team Fortress 2.
And for those saying that f2p is what killed it, then you definitely didn't get out of your sheltered shell of valve servers. There's plenty of good servers out there that don't breed their kind.

You actually summed up some of the points what I like about TF2.
I have played COD for maybe five minutes offline, so I can't compare it well.
But I like that TF2 is colorful, not all dreary militaristic/warzone landscapes. I like how TF2 focuses very little on Deathmatch mode but at objective based. I like the cartoon style (nice to see less semi-serious shooters), the taunts, the voice acting and characters. Odd but fun items, very much class based, etc.
It has humor and unlike others shooters I played, the community is fairly decent (not into your face, generally speaking) and except for servers without VAC, no hackers, aimbots, etc. Your k/d ratio is not something of importance, when you just need to complete the objective. It is also casual fun and you can just join and leave a match whenever, without hurting the objective progress (like in KF, where joining late or leaving has consequences for the other players).

yea, only getting that shitty hat was kind of a let down for everyone who paid money for it. At least we were able to enjoy the game for a much longer time than the f2p players. Since it went f2p the standard degraded a lot, so it somehow prooves we're the cool guys that made the game big I think! xD

TF2 was a slow competitive team based fps, which was ruined around 2009 when new weapons were added into the game and not banned from league, then it progressively got worse until a majority of the competitive players (and other players among that) stopped playing the game because on top of the poor decision updates performance began to lack for players as well due to something going wrong and things becoming less optimized (including more items to render) the playerbase became so low that they set the game to be free to play (this was probably already a plan, but the game would be near dead if not F2p)
COD4 is the only cod I'm aware of that has an active playerbase atm, and even at that it's the modded version of the game called promod; mostly scrims just going on, great game. Not sure if there's really that many playing anymore

CoD drains your money the longer you play (dlcs, microtransactions)
TF2 gives you money the longer you play (you can sell every junk you randomly get due to crafting and market etc)

Me and my friend got into an argument saying hat Cod is better than TF2, I said that tf2 is better than Cod because it requires teamwork, most weapons and class are balanced, etc. My friend just came up with, well Cod has more players than TF2. Which one do you prefer or why (no fanboism please)
