The more competition the better. And the stronger the competition is, the more impactful will be for the gaming community. Right now Valve piss on their customers and player base, just because they can, their store has become a dumpster for the past years, filled with every piece of crap out there (cause we all know that quantity is better than quality sarcasm).
A lot of people are attached to Steam because of the time and financial investment throughout the years, but if given the chance to move their entire library to a new platform, most will probably do it and never look back (myself included), cause there's nothing Steam does that any other gaming client can't do, or do better.

Steam has regional pricing, has built in support for multiple types of controllers, has built in support for playing Windows games on Linux, every game gets its own dedicated forum where players can chat with other players or the devs, and 3rd party stores sell its games in cheap bundles regularly. Of course there's also Steamgifts (something no other platform has an equivalent to) and an API that lets sites be built around steam librarys/wishlists/etc. Even if it were possible to move our libraries to another platform those things would keep most people on Steam.
