Good addition, but I wish it would be optional. For those who struggle it's great, but some of us manage to keep their entries under control. Auto-remove has its disadvantages and thus there imho should be an opt-out.
Or an alternative suggestion: Auto-remove is always active for games with a value below a specific value (or community wishlist position). Any other game keeps its entries, till the win is confirmed. That would prevent the worst fake-GA scenarios.
Add reimbursed points even beyond 300p and it's pretty much perfect.

See above
Does this prevent all possibilities of winning a game more than once?
...a user could win a giveaway, believe they are not going to receive the gift from the giveaway creator, and start entering more giveaways for the same game, only to win again. We'll look at options to reduce these possibilities, but for now, this update covers most instances of multiple wins that we are seeing.

Currently, based on what was said above, it will only auto-remove any active entries when you are selected a winner, either by an ending giveaway or a re-roll. Until you activate and sync your account you will still be able to enter more giveaways for the same title, same as before.
Edit: Forgot to mention they are looking at other possibilities to remove this possibility of multiple wins, but there are no details on what is being explored.

any chance for a manual remove from all giveaways of a game for cases where we got the game somewhere else? i've picked up games from my wishlist outside steamgifts and then had to come back and remove myself from each giveaway for that game a few times.
Comment has been collapsed.
Is it really too much to go to "https://www.steamgifts.com/giveaways/entered", type the game in the search field and then click on "remove" a few times?
Comment has been collapsed.
since the search field is with the navigation i didn't realize it could search the entered giveaways, so that's better. still, one "remove all" click is better than 20 "remove" clicks, and most of the logic is already there for automatic removal.

And just like that, a thousand tickets that could have been disappear :D.

Kudos for this feature.
Suggestions:
Temporary points overflow so each affected user can get back all the points from the giveaways he is removed from by the system. This overflow will be temporary until he spends his points and falls under 300P again.
Show the giveaways you were removed from by the system and emphasize them on the "Entered" page, so you can easily reenter any of them in case of winning a fake giveaway.

Temporary overflow is a standard for this kind of setup, but would only worsen the bot exploitation element that much more. Until that has some sort of way of addressing it, there probably shouldn't be any overflow.
#2 is especially worthwhile, as a "recently removed entries" page could be useful even outside of auto-removal context (say, if you accidentally remove yourself from a private giveaway and lose the link).

Yes to number 2.

Neat feature, it will be of great help to reduce the staff's workload, especially after the recent recruitment.
What about an automatic account sync feature, that would activate after marking a win as received?
That would solve a semi-related issue: users entering giveaways for a game after winning it - those entries wouldn't be removed.
The only issues would be private profiles (they wouldn't sync) and packages (a way to remove entries for the base game would be needed).

This is wonderful news!!
Thank you cg for the continued improvements! Appreciate it a lot!

How will this work for games that have multiple versions?
For example, the game Guacamelee!, it has 3 versions. Gold Edition (steam id 214770), Super Turbo Championship Edition (steam id 275390) and Complete Edition (steam id 73535).
Imagine that an user wins Guacamelee! Gold Edition, will it remove the user only from the Gold Edition giveaways or from all Guacamelee! giveaways?
And what about bundle giveaways, like we just recently had with Syberia, Syberia I was given for free and it's not allowed to be given on SG, but Syberia Bundle that has Syberia I and II is allowed and Syberia II is also allowed. Does winning Syberia II removes the user from all Syberia II and Syberia Bundles's giveaways? Or just from Syberia II's giveaways?

Move in the right direction. But have you considered joining tables of owned and won games (except those with "not received" feedback) for the purpose of determining eligibility to win/enter/see on main page of giveaway? This way nobody would be able to win more than one copy. Additionally, entries should be removed automatically only after marking as received, with the optional button on won page to do it manually.
On similiar subject, some kind of pop-up window after the sync asking if entries for newly detected games should be removed would probably be even more welcome (I suspect that multiple wins is much smaller compared to purchased and forgot to sync)

Yessss, finally! Saves a lot of work for support staff too.

This is a good change, except points refunded should exceed the current maximum of 300 if needed. Like it actually was in SGv1.
In general points should be re-managed so that on average the limit gets hit only once a day, which can be achieved with either or both increasing max-amount and decreasing regen-rate.
That would take away the bot advantage of spending more points than a real user with a single per day site visit can.
current winners (..) or purchased the game
won't solve this though
Edit: and ha! just one a game and don't need to manually search and remove entries. Like this feature already.

Lol, I take that as a joke.
I'm not complaining, as said I like this feature already, for saving me effort alone. Was only providing a solution for raised concerns by others as well as an unrelated inquiry how to take away advantages from bot users.

actually i'm very serious.. it pains me to see people complaining so wholeheartedly about getting points back out of the system simply because they won a game. i honestly would take it one step further and say it should additionally add a cooldown from gaining points for 24hours, but that one i know most people would just cry about.

I want a 10P game so much that I enter 30 giveaways for it, spending 300P.
I win in on the 30th, having the game, spending 300P, I'm happy for having the game.
I win the game on my first win, and based on suggestion I lose the other 290P as well. I'm still happy, I have the bloody game!
Maybe I'm not the best example, but I really wouldn't be against it as I current habit of entering stuff. I would have hated it ~ 2 years ago though :D

it would make people think before they even enter on some things... less entries, better odds of people playing the games they win.. overall it's a better suggestion imo then allowing people who have already won to hoard points over 300 so they could win several more wins the next day that they wouldn't of otherwise.
Comment has been collapsed.
yeah, it would still make people think though before entering every random thing just for the win sake (i've been and am still somewhat guilty too) even without a cooldown. there could still be a whitelist AAA 1hr flash 60point game come up immediately after a win. people will consider that and think twice before entering.

Exactly my thought after reading this thread. I mean, person just won a freakin' game! And they're worried about getting every last drop of points from the site? Jeez.
Comment has been collapsed.
yeah, the 0point thing started out as a joke to jatan11 back at the beginning of the thread. but by the time i got to the end of it, i was really seriously wanting it due to the amount of complaints within this thread. it's not to "punish" the winner either, it's just to give other users a ever so slightly higher chance at winning since winners will skip out on a few extra GA entries.
Comment has been collapsed.
Except for the clear flaw that it further promotes obsessive site involvement and benefits thereof, by forcing users to use their points up as quickly as possible. Rather, the actual suggestion would be 'set points to 0 AND remove all other active entries'.
That, in turn, would have the downside of blindsiding a bunch of people to <5 entries (which is already a risk with the current system, but at least there it's tied to the individual game).
Comment has been collapsed.
nah, just spread the love around to different people better. ^^
i wouldn't be opposed to having it where creating a giveaway allows the point regeneration before the 24hour cooldown is up also.. it would promote but not force people to create a giveaway to start getting their points back early. but since i create GAs all the time that one doesn't look that great with me suggesting it

Really great new feature :) Thank you for this, cg!

Hmm this isn't exactly the way I imagined it would be. It would work a lot better if it was upon marking as received. JustArchi's suggestion would also work great: only remove the entries if the creator from whom you won has a certain percentage of delivered games.
Comment has been collapsed.
Definitely this. Also, There should be a minimum number of GAs that the creator has given out successfully as well, say like 90% of at least 50 GAs / copies before automatic removal kicks in. That would raise the bar on someone screwing others over with fake gibs.
Comment has been collapsed.
Great! Looking for all my entries of the same game was the only annoying part about winning a gift ^^
Thanks for the updates as always! Some folks are worried about fake giveaways but unless you make a habit of entering all the L0 Call of Duty gibs from brand-new members (and you're super lucky) I can't imagine that's going to be a real problem :)
Comment has been collapsed.
Will be a problem? Out of your 764 wins on this site, only two of them were marked not received. Two! And from the same guy at the same time a week ago, after five years of being here!
I don't think this will present a problem for you, is all I'm saying.

Hey SG, I mentioned in a discussion yesterday that I was working on this feature, and I just wanted to write an announcement since it's complete. In short, when you win a game, the site will now check your other giveaway entries that are open, and remove those for the game you just won. It also works for giveaways ending at the same time. This helps to prevent you from accidentally winning a game more than once while you're sleeping, or away from the site.
FAQ
Does this happen when I win, or when I mark a gift as received?
It happens the moment you win. When users win a game more than once, it typically occurs before they even have time to visit the site. If we waited until a gift was marked as received, it would be too late in the majority of cases.
Do I get points refunded?
Yes, if any of your giveaway entries are automatically removed, we will refund the correct number of points, assuming you have less than the current maximum of 300.
Does this prevent all possibilities of winning a game more than once?
No, a user could still end up the winner of a giveaway, and then a different giveaway they entered in the past could be rerolled, causing them to have two wins for the same game. Or, a user could win a giveaway, believe they are not going to receive the gift from the giveaway creator, and start entering more giveaways for the same game, only to win again. We'll look at options to reduce these possibilities, but for now, this update covers most instances of multiple wins that we are seeing. Remember, if you ever win a game more than once, you should only redeem one copy, mark additional copies as not received, and ask those giveaway creators to request a new winner.
The main benefit of this update is the time and headaches it saves for everyone on the site. Last month we had 2,012 tickets requesting new winners because the current winners already won or purchased the game. That's nearly half of our Request New Winner tickets, or 25% of our total tickets. Overall, this is going to result in less explanations from giveaway winners, less tickets required from giveaway creators, and more sleep for the support team. It's a win-win-win.
Edit
This is now setup for rerolls as well. If a giveaway is rerolled and you're selected as the new winner, the site will remove your other giveaway entries that are currently open for the same game.
