Right now i've got a subscription plan to Deezer HiFi. I've had also aplan with Qobuz.

I always was an audiophile-quality listener. Even now you can convert SACD in DSD wich s the best quality.

For the moment i've got a FiiO M11Pro. It has two chips AK4497EQ+ wich are at the moment the second best sound chips aviable. It's also THX cerified. Very good quality, Android 8.

PS: Becose it's a music related topic i posted here in TV. Sorry if it's not the good one.

I fully expected it to be about something else, but was surprised to see it actually was about Digital Audio Converters. Now I don't know what to type here anymore. Granted, I also expected it to be more about internal connectors on external equipment, maybe something about which were better or worse. And I don't really have good info on that these days. And definitely expected it to be about recording audio instead of playback. For playback, well... I hardly care at all as long as they're decent.

when it comes to movies, marvel has the best live action and DC has the best animated

I'm so tired I understand nothing 😅

I'm still glad that I have a relatively good motorcycle sound system and CDs.

I'm not audiophile but comparing streamed vs original the difference is clearly there.

I haven't got the slightest idea what DAC is (so no poll for me). As for my audio setup, I've been using Asus Xonar Essence + Sennheiser HD 598 for ages, love it. Oh, and also I'm a dirty pirate and download all my music in flac from torrent sites.

I know this topic, was interested in all this some years ago but i ended without buying additional (expensive) hardware with my older Technics tower doing the job connected to pc and Creative SB X-FI Titanium HD with one pair of opamps exchanged.

DAC is converter. Digital to Analogue And conversely.

.WAV .FLAC ..OGG and others are containers. You have musique @ 44.1 KHz. Why ? Cos there's two canal.(STEREO). Each one goes to 20KHz wich is the human earing limitation.

In fact evereryone can see the difference between Hi-Rez audio and lossy compression. It's day and night. You ear some harmonic wich you can't ear with a basic subscription. You can test a Premium plan if aviable and cancel.

Also, the industrie release more and more Hi-Rez songs. They even release directly in DSD. Audio Blu-Ray are Hi Res music in PCM. Blu Ray Audio are commonely readable on anny Blu Ray player.

It's 44kHz for both channels, not as as sum of two. And it's higher than hearing limitation because of Nyquist–Shannon sampling theorem.
And it's bullshit that everyone can see the difference between Hi-Rez and lossy. I can't. And most people can't. And when you'll get older you won't too.

If your integrated audio chip is good (like ALC 1200 or Sabre) and implemented correctly in most cases the sound quality will be fine. Of course not nearly as good as on well built DAC, but still acceptable. If you hesistate to spend a lot of money and your audio chip is garbage you can start with something like Audioquest Dragonfly Black. It's super cheap, compact (on a form of a USB dongle) and installation/operation should be seamless in most cases.

I would like to get one but haven't gotten to it / don't have the money. I also value music quality a lot.

your poll is pretty stupid - everyone who listens digital music uses DAC. Cheapest sound chip on a cheapest motherboard? It has DAC. Cheapest smartphone? It has DAC. You only don't use a DAC if you are listening to tape/vinyl. And the latter has so much noice it's even worse than lossy digital music. Professional tape recordings can indeed have great quality, but they cost a fortune and never used if you just want to "listen some music"

PS. Also, if you are past 20 - you will never notice the difference of those fancy music format and audiophil hardware. That's biology, our hearing spectrum becomes more narrow with age, for everyone. You can't avoid that.

Sure, every chip has DAC, but we are talking about standalone, external DACs. Read his post first.

Yes, and it's connected to the topic. There is a thing called "context" - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Context_(language_use)
