Interesting question. this will take some research...
must be pretty, nice, able to interact with others in some context aside from sociopathic violence, want kids and have some level of characterization so we can tell she at least has a mind. probably better if she's more than tits and legs and people who beat others to death for fun are kinda out(which gets rid of all characters from fighting games)...so is anybody with chronic tragic backstory syndrome when bad stuff keeps happening to everybody she cares about between games. she needs to have an advantage over real women I could meet without risking getting eaten by zombies or crushed by robots or vaporized, needs to not want to kill me on sight for xp or to loot my corpse, not be evil, not be dead, not be a robot, not be an alien, not be radioactive, not an animal...
she'd need good genes to avoid derp babies so I'd have to make sure she was fully human, didn't have one of those mayfly lifespan things, no bloodfeuds no descendent stalking demon or reoccurringly unsealed evil that immediately comes after the original hero's bloodline ect.
If possible while still managing to be a valid breeding partner I'd like a women who could give me children with superpowers, so maybe a powerful mage bloodline or a no downsides genetic engineered supersoldier(usually can't tell that until 2nd gen so maybe a legacy character?) type deal. She'd have to be able to take care of herself in a fight not make me kill all the zombie robot orc pirate mushroom turtle beast people that show up. We're staying with my family not her's cause my world is safer and aparently anybody can just wander into a castle or military base let alone drive a tank on the sidewalk. Good alignment don't want her eating our babies for the lulz or whatever, wealth power or tech are positives, immortality is fine especially if hereditary(or one of those mixed the parent's lifespan things like halfelves living a couple hundred years might be better, kids get extra life and stay healthier for more of it but don't completely outlive everything and everyone they ever cared about(like my grandchildren).)
so probably a superhero or "good witch" summoners and white mage/healers always seemed like they'd be pretty op in the real world so that'd be a good thing to get into. maybe a paladin or red mage so she won't die too easily?
So objectively I guess the fable2 hero's sister Rose(grown up and wished back to life obviously) might be a decent choice...seemed nice enough(but then again so did teressa and she turns out to be a manipulative bitch and probably evil by the 2nd game. I was sure we'd fight her in fable 3), that bloodline is able to be skilled in all three powers of will strength and ranged(so basically a physical god, although like all heroes apparently vulnerable to being gunned down by random peasants which is a downside), in addition to sometimes being immortal and for some reason apparently automatically royalty in the next game(so kids would be dukes or something which is much less dangerous than prince with enough of the benefits)

If my wife were a videogame character she'd need to be good enough at it our children wouldn't be dragged down by having me as a father."dad save us from the lava insects...noooo we're dieing because you suck at space invaders and moms a helpless princess." (aso thatd be another requirement, I'd have to be the father of any children she has, so none of that mario sunshine princess peach "i'm your mommy?" bullshit with bowser jr.(and she'd better remember even having our children so regardless or paternity that questionmark has NO business being there. (I'll be so busy with my job adventuring in dungeons/sewers flying in space and playing minigames for a living and don't want to come home months later to learn she ditzed and forgot to feed them while I was gone or gave birth to a lizard...I would be upset about both of those things. but mostly the "whers the baby?!" oh...i left him in the back seat of our mariokart 5 weeks ago. in the sun. games are dangerous enough without your mother being a complete airhead and feeding you to goombas by accident(could always kill her for xp if she steps out and leave the bastard in the wild to grow up into a standard mook, it'd actually help my son be an adventure like me (before i took an arrow and settled down)if his mother died in a "bandit raid")) so thats another strike against peach(and those two strikes outweigh the awesome baking, gliding ability, royalty ect so definitely not Peach.)))

on 2nd thought not Rose. gotta be a leading girl. Whoever it is my kids aren't going to be no npc(if they're born that way I'll at least pull some strings and push them into being a shopkeeper, those guys almost never die). games are dangerous enough already when you actually get a name let alone when you don't and suddenly the main boss needs 10,000 souls to reach his final form.

Samus is a main character, not a lesbian, can take on an army, demonstrably capable ofhaving emotional ties with other people and recognizes their right to exist(befriended co who eventually got reborn as her computer, she was sad when he died) and explicitly has a maternal instinct((took care of the baby metroid)its even a main plot point), so maybe her(she does have that weird habit of stripping down in public where anything could shoot her, thats how kat died in halo, but I could overlook that so long as she listened to a lecture on helmet safety)? ....wait, no. Samus is radioactive, phason in the veins now....hmm..this is hard.

ah, sorry. tldr:

  • I don't know ask me later.

    • I'd pick samus if she weren't radioactive, (shes hot, good with children, won't get kidnapped while I'm at work casue she kicks ass, has a personality/character traits ect)
    • peach seemed good in the n64 era(baking ect) but peach as of mario sunshine is a vacant whore who can't even remember who's children shes had and in what castle she last saw them so definitely not her(wasn't considering her but wanted to point it out for those who were(I beat sunshine so I know bowser jr isn't hers but the point is she didn't)).
    • might need to prioritize genetics over looks(like there are any videogame women who aren't hot anyway) to minmax with my bride choice so my kids don't end up cannonfodder npcs from my genes.
      • personality would be more of a factor except so many lack characterization so badly it'd be like dating a dead eyed doll or a mentally disabled girl so that helps narrow things down
      • mages are something to consider, some superheroes or other humans with extra abilities that'd be cool to have, if she is capable of leveling up or has a skill tree thats a plus
    • teresia(sister from fable) was the main villain of fable 2 and 3 and you don't even get to fight her.
    • few games kill your shopkeeper even when the rest of the town dies because that would annoy the player

Really that was my first reaction too.. how many women do I know from games that would be mentally stable, not radioactive, not evil, not dead and still have some sort of advantage over a regular women.

I couldnt think of any either.

I'm going with liara t'soni from mass effect, or maybe miranda lawson also mass effect

if only cortana had a body... to that end maybe edi would be an option if joker wasn't a factor...
but then I'd have to contend with the ever jelous glados and shodan and who wants that drama right?
and of all the dead or alive girls I probably would have to go with ayane

mariko from heavenly sword would be an option if she wasn't so damaged or her awesome friend kai if I could ever go out in public with her without her spazzing out

in the end though I'd say mei ling from metal gear solid is probably my most compatible partner, we have the same taste in movies and so much more in common she really feels like someone I could spend the rest of my days with and be happy.

before I get to that point though I'd have to work ruby from "wet" and anya stroud from gears of war out of my system first.

So basically you're asking which character comes closest to our dream girl/boy status or has defined that for us? Ok.

Ami Mizuno/Sailor Mercury
(Yes, she's an anime character. But there are several games based on the anime. :P )

And that, ladies and gentlemen, is why I don't believe in love. Because NO real girl combines her characteristics. That girl just doesn't exist. Forever alone? :D

I can't think of anyone in a videogame I'd even date. Are there any intellectually/emotionally strong female characters in videogames?

Yeah, loads actually. Many of the girls in the Suikoden series for one. The girls in Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky series. A lot of the girls in the Ys series. Definitely could think of more as well since the girls in RPGs often do have a lot of strength to get through everything they do, if they don't at the beginning, they sure have it by the end.
