I've played Age of Wonders and Age of Wonders 2 (haven't played Shadow Magic yet), and they were both excellent games. Be warned, however, that Age of Wonders 2 has quite the learning curve over the first game, and if you play it like you did in the first game, you'll get crushed quite quickly!
I won Age of Wonders 3 a while back, but I am waiting to buy the expansions before I start playing it.

I'd suggest reading what each expansion adds on their steam store pages. They don't just add new races and units but some new features and systems which probably should have been part of the core game rather than additions through expansions.
Personally I feel like I wouldn't be playing the "full game" if I started playing it without expansions.

Lets hope the expansions will get generous discounts on the next sale. Albeit even in that case I might not buy them as I'd perhaps rather get the DS3 DLC I'm missing and play that first.

Yeah, expansions seems to add not only new races and classes but some new features and systems as well. So it would seem that if you want the "full game" experience you really need to get those.

My favourite (stupid spellcheck, I am Canadian and that is the proper spelling of favourite!!) ability was Dominate! I loved being able to steal enemy heroes and use them on my side! :) Unfortunately, the ability was either removed or nerfed for AoW2 (it's been a while, so I can't remember), so I wasn't able to do the same shenanigans.

This game is really good, especially with the expansions. I’ve sunk a good hundred hours into the game. It isn’t too hard to pick up, but there is a lot of depth. I really got a grasp by watching the early series of Youtuber BlackArrowGaming.

Only bad thing is that - keys from HB are time limited - but the game will forever be marked as zero cv on SG and that is a loss because you wont see many giveaways for it in the future. Shame the system cant compensate for that - for instance marking the specific game's CV as zero for giveaways made within a specific timeframe.

Only a few keys were disabled in the past after each promotion. If someone has dozens of HB accounts he could show all the keys, copy them in excel or similar and create giveaways after the promo so they would get CV for free.

Oh... didn’t know that was the case lol I always assumed since they mention that the keys will be valid till a certain date only. As you describe it, it does make sense then.
