Do you sing?
It's what I do! I'm not pimping, because a few seconds on Google can tell you everything you need to know :)
It's rock with a hint of blues we play.
I've never had any lessons other than a bit of breathing and warming up. I think those are probably the most important parts of singing as long as you can hold a note :)

Being comfortable is also important. I think of it this way: is this what you want to do? Can you actually do it? If so, there's nothing to be nervous about!
Also, hitting perfect notes every time is less important than sounding like you mean it. I've seen tons of singers who are pitch perfect but sound dead inside because the meaning behind the song is lost on them. Think about the words you're singing as much as the notes :)

Where is the During Sex option?
I love to sing once a week, with the radio though so offcourse it's easier then doing it on your own.
Had singing lessons but well didn't get me a big popstar career, 90% you have to have talent, if you don't have that to start with it's
useless to put any money in it.
You could always go to a karaoke bar or try one of those games.
And my genre is pop/rock, pretty divers, but love to sing pearl jam and david bowie songs.
Haven't really heared about any programs for it until i read this post, might try it out.

i have to disagree, there is no such thing as "Talent" i've been a electric guitar teacher for 5 or 6 years, the one thing i always said, there is no talent, there are people that have better predisposition to start with but with enough passion and training you can achive their level or above them, same goes with singing, i was playing electric guitar for about 13 or 14 years now, couple of years back i started to train singing - i sucked even worse then karaoke singers, now i'm quite happy with the condition of my voice, it's all muscle and memory. You can learn to hear, learn to adjust face muscles and muscles in your neck to sing good, matter of time and training.

But a guitar always have the same sound sortof, no matter who plays it after x years of practice, it does not depend on your hands. A voice is so different, and almost unique, i don't think every voice is suited for singing, even if you had x years of practice. Maybe it's not so much about having "Talent" but having the right voice.

nope, there are only couple of voice types, the way one's mouth is build and how he uses it makes his voice sound diffrent then other one even thou its the same voice type, with enough practice if your say a bari-tenor and wanted to sound like layne stanley, with the right setup of your mouth you can sound just like him. Your voice is your tool just like guitar, but you don't have to buy it ;)

I'm sorry, but that is a rather ignorant thing to say - you can take three guitar players, give them the same guitar and same gear and a note sheet and they would play it differently. The technique every guitar player is using differs because of the way they learnt to play, and that has a notable impact on the sound of the same pieces.

true, but its not only because they learned so, there is a lot of guitar virtuoso which choose to play their vibrato or something (when it comes to technique) that way they are playing, also their is style in place but that's not technique, its just creativity to use some kind of scales and mix them or add some notes to existing scales.

Yes, style is a better word. You can play the exact same notes in various different ways which can differ even to an untrained ear subtly or drastically - it is all the matter of hands playing after all.

Very true. I can play exactly the same guitar with exactly the same settings, but it sounds totally different from our guitarist. He has magic fingers though.
It makes sense though. Different sized fingers, different way of holding the pick, different angle of attack on the strum - there's a lot of variables that could affect the sound.

I guess it will be true for most things. You could sit me in the same car as Sebastian Vettel, odds are I'm not going to drive it the same way :)

I don't know any singing lingo or anything of the sort, but I like to think that I know how to sing, but I like mostly stuff that would resemble chorus or hymns, anything that resembles resonance. Like one thing I've been singing to myself and my dog is Epona's Song ( which to my surprise has some lyrics, unknown to me if fan-made but it's Japanese so might be legit)

I can sing and play guitar.
« Long ass fucking time ago
In a site called Steamgifts
There was an animal that could play and that could sing
He couldn't play PC, he had too much ping
His name was young JoaoWho and he refused to step in line
A vision did he see of being a bear all the time
He wrote a tasty jam and all the planets did align »

I do, mostly for my records of my own music and covers - from country (with a cleaner voice) to thrash metal (with harsh and overdriven vocals) to death metal (with deep growl).
I am currently in a death metal band, though most of the music I compose is closer to hard'n'heavy.
I do not use any learning soft, I did have a couple of lessons to get the basics of resonators and such, but after that I improve my technique trough practice, trial and error. My rather good (and pretty much correct) growling technique I learned all by myself with a couple of tips like "if it hurts you're doing it wrong".

Once upon a time... In the 4th grade, during mandatory music lessons while singing some folk song, our teacher dramatically punched the keyboard and in the following silence asked me to stop, so I don't sing anymore. I know the self-diagnosing sucks but I guess I'm somewhat tone deaf, assuming my recitation wasn't particularly good as well.

I can pass internet tests with single note samples in a silent room. While listening a song not so much, same for a friend playing the recorder. Or even in speech, all the "lower your voice at the end, give a stress on the second syllable, do a barrel roll" etc. magic is alien and undistinguishable.
Thanks for the link, however I wasn't into singing prior the event anyway. It seems to be "don't give up, singing buddy!" while I don't want to start in the first place.

I used to be a singer for a metal band when I was much younger, but I haven't been on a stage in over a decade. Now a days, about the only singing I do is with Rock Band 3 (and soon... Rock Band 4!!! WOOHOO!!). My wife loves my singing and insist on buying me tons of song for Rock Band. Now that I am a family man, it's about the only singing I'll do since I don't even usually step foot in a night club or bar and most of my old band members went on to play gulp country music shudders.

Uh, I go to karaoke like twice a year? Does that count?

So does anybody here sing too?
What kind of music you sing?
are you in a band?
Is there any training/learning program you are using? (CVT, SingingSuccess or any other)
