I agree completely!
I hated having to use DRM back in the aughts, and it wasnt until Steam winter sale 2008, that I begin to take interest.
The 3 things that sold me on it that year were great sales, decent active online community, and the fun Winter Sale that year that had you able to play games, to get coal, and trade 3 coal in for a random free game. There were also excellent flash sales, and free gifts to open when you made a purchase.
Discord and Twitch have taken over most all the social part,
GOG 2.0 allows me to load all the DRM management through a single platform, so sales on any platfform are god for me.
But EPIC has hugely stood out over the past year with it's weekly free games, that are from shovelware, and mainly great titles!
Thus EPIC has sold me more on their service than any other in the past decade.

Same here, the only thing that bothers me is the pricetag.

I remember when Steam was the "enemie", because they were forcing people to install Steam to play their games...Is anyone crying about that today? What about PS and XBox exclusives? I guess raging people will always find something...

What a shame. Hopefully it's only a timed exclusive.
Maybe Epic will actually convince Square to not half-ass the ports (like with almost all the Final Fantasies, Nier Automata, etc.)

Chrono Trigger was such a port.

Honestly though, I want Square to release on PC Super Mario RPG. The best of the Mario RPGs.

While I'm disappointed about the exclusivity, I personally lost interest in kingdom hearts years ago. What worries me more is what this news means for FF7 Remake on PC.

Same bro, I have a bad feeling about this. Before this announcement I was sure FF7R was coming to steam, but after this I'm seriously worried. I waited a year for a Steam release, I don't want to wait another year!

They are super expensive so maybe gonna wait for steam a year later and some kind of discount. Already have the "Whole story so far" and 3 on PS4 so i can wait for PC a couple of years more.

Took them forever, I don't care if its only on epic, we know it's just a timed deal as usual.

checks prices Lol, what were they thinking. You can the the full package easily for 30$ nowadays. Why do they think a super late release with an exclusivity deal warrants a 60$ tag price per entry

A PC port is a PC port, but boy, those prices are not very enticing. Will wait 5 years for a good sale on Steam.

If they ever come to Steam or GOG, I'll buy them on deep discount to mess with mods, but otherwise I'm happy with my Playstation copies. Still, it's great to see these awesome games finally come to PC.

Wow, I'm shocked SE to see it coming to PC, that's really awesome! The price doesn't seem at all shocking to me like some people commenting, it is a major IP for SE, they know people will pay that price.

While I'm sad at the absurd prices, I am so happy they finally ported Kingdom Hearts to PC so I can play it without needing to buy a Playstation!

I am pretty sure Epic's exclusivity was what abled them to port it in the first place so I don't mind it being on Epic. I'd need to wait for a year or so anyway for it to be 50% off (can't afford it at those ridiculous prices anyway)

The platform is PC. If anyone wants to play the game on the PC, they should be happy. Why would anyone care which software they will use to launch the game, is beyond me

Because its business practices and monopolistic practices are nothing support-worthy.

Thank you for providing these links, however, this is a topic I've researched and debated quite a bit. I still disagree with you. What Epic is doing is bringing competition and helping the small indie. Steam's response to Epic's reduced cut was a direct insult to small developers.
The PC gaming platform is controlled by Steam to such an extend, anyone who wants to compete will have to have deep pockets and play aggressively. Even with all the freebies and the exclusives, Epic still has an uphill battle.

Steam is by far my primary platform. I love it, though I do know their practices, such as the feature "Steam Trading Cards" (=free money to get more games on our platform), makes sure of this. Valve's practices over the years have not always been consumer-friendly. Example: I live in Australia and I can't use my Steam credit to buy games for my family in Europe. They actually actively change the platform so that someone like me is not able to do that anymore. How sad and pathetic is that move?

EGS lacks certain features. Most of them, like family sharing and Remote Play, came to Steam many many years after the platform was launched. The most crucial, cloud save, is already there. There are features people care about that I hold in extremely low regard, such as achievements and Steam Level. I don't mean to insult anyone, so I won't further analyze why I have a low opinion of these "features".

The one thing I am against, which EGS and many other stores do, is offer games for free in order to compete. I think over time that diminishes the value of games on PC and is bad for the platform and the small indie in general. I know A LOT of people who after a few months of Epic's freebies, stopped buying PC games altogether, as they already got heaps for free. If I were to profile these gamers, they would usually buy cheap indie games or discounted older AAA games. It doesn't affect newly released big AAA titles, they wouldn't buy those. Please don't think I am judging anyone getting the games for free. I will grab every free game that comes my way. It's not the act of getting the game that hurts the platform, it's the act of offering it for free. I have lots more to say about this, but my post is already getting too long and I have one final point.

Apart from the Atari 2600, I have never owned a console. The idea of buying a second (less powerful and more restricted device) to play on exclusive, is disgusting to me. The idea of having a separate library of games on a separate device is unappealing, to say the least. These games are designed on PC's and are held from the platform for the purpose of selling other devices. With respect, I don't get it, why are many of you not only support this practice but become soldiers of the PS/Xbox cause while Sony and Microsoft laugh all the way to the bank? Downloading a separate free launcher that at this point is missing some features, to play a game on the device I already own, is not a problem at all!

Hi grafos18,

I really appreciate your Feedback but I have to disagree with you here, atleast on some points. Let me quote some of your responses:

"What Epic is doing is bringing competition and helping the small indie."
→ What Epic is doing is not even a bit of competition. They're locking every sort of competition out of the market. I'll give you a simple best-practice on why this is not consumer-friendly competition. What do you prefer the most as a consumer:

A) Buying Games and taking them hostage into one launcher to forcefully compete with other storefronts and forcing you to buy a game in a different launcher and leave your beloved main library
or
B) Launch it everywhere and let price wars arise so we as a consumer get better prices and can decide where we want to Support

huh? I personally would take B all the time because A doesn't give us anything. Just because some small indie developer gets 18% more, doesn't nessecarily mean they're also getting 18% (through publisher). Android and Apple is the sort of competition we need.

"The idea of having a separate library of games on a separate device is unappealing[....]"
And that is exactly the reason why I'll never buy anywhere else. Steam is my home and just because its "PC" doesn't mean its on the same platform. I hate the Idea to have my games splitted into different launchers. It's like splitting your physical copys into different rooms but the same apartment (PC). I want my games in one room so I have instant access to it. Splitting it isn't appealing as you already mentioned.

Steam is my Home and where I feel the best. Screenshots, Artwork, Discussions, forum and even an activity Feed connects me to my friends on Steam like no other storefront did. I wont want to miss there features at all.
Steam is and will always be my main library. Its not about a "free icon" its not about another launcher. Its about the fact that EGS is forcing people with not a single intend of doing us, the consumer a favor, but to gain more % in the overall market because they're greedy moneyhungry and cancerous plague who shouldn't belong there. Oh and by the way check this out if you have time:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wBzAcMiln9k&feature=youtu.be

EGS doesn't even have a Shopping Cart. If you buy all these games you have a chance to get banned because of multiple purchases (No kidding, just google it, EGS is known for it). Oh and to top all of that - not even to mention that the CEO of EGS is an absolute dickhead:

https://twitter.com/TechCrunch/status/1329128153676181505

This has to be one of the most amazing false equivalency arguments ever made. A CEO of a billion dollar company claiming he has to pay a business to distribute his product is like fighting for a black person to be treated as an equal.
If you support that store fine - I wont. I prefer the superior Launcher and that is my home - Steam.
Peace.

What gave people the idea these games were ported thanks to the deal from Epic? I remember when Death Stranding was out on PlayStation and no PC port was announced, Epic's representative was hinting at bringing Death Stranding to the Epic Store. In the end, it was released on all storefronts. Had it been released as an Epic exclusive, everybody would've been saying how we should be thankful to Epic for bringing Death Stranding to PC. I'm pretty sure Square Enix were planning to release KH series on PC regardless, same as Sony. Epic simply snatched a deal when they caught wind of Square Enix' plans.

or, alternatively, epic used its billions to bring a game to pc that literally no other company (including your beloved steam) had any interest in bringing to pc gamers. how utterly evil of them.

No hate or love either way towards Epic or Steam. But Square Enix holds the cards in this PC port so assumptions are just that. I get it tho all the Epic Games store hate gets really old at this point.
