i5 4690k with GTX 1070 will be driving it.
Only had around 300-400€ for it.
Was hard to decide between 1080p144hz or 1440p60hz.
Did picked BenQ GW2765HT in the end partially because it was discounted.
Should arrive in week.
Old monitor took some hits or something and now it has 1 dead pixel and 3 larger bad spots. Plus its actually old.
Acer X243W. Manufactured March 2008.
Should I have picked something else as monitor/what would you have picked?

I wish the 27" 1440p 144hz IPS monitors would come down in price, $700 is insane. I think everyone is going to move to 4K over time and 1440p will always be expensive which sucks because you can't currently game on 4K at high refresh rates and high refresh rates are more important to me than resolution, especially when you can't even see the pixels because they are too small at 4K.

I feel like I am never going to buy a monitor. TN, 60hz, or 1080p are all deal breakers for me and I can't afford a 1440p 144hz IPS. I'm still running a 19" CRT :)

Edit: Also, I really wish 16x10 was still popular, I can't understand why anyone would want an ultrawide, I hope it is just a fad that goes away soon. Vertical pixels matter :(

Sorry but Ultrawide future is looking bright. I'm not sure why you're against it honestly, it's targeted for people who are doing more than just gaming on their PC. For movie lovers like myself it's an easy choice, better immersion.

2018 is going to be big for PC monitors, we are getting 4k @144hz with HDR and Ultrawide 3440x1440 200hz with HDR. So no one is left behind, i think it's the biggest step forward until we go to OLED and/or bigger resolution like 5k or 8k (yeah that's not coming soon though).

OLED is still too expensive to be released just like that, and 4K @144 HZ is probably when I'll switch my current one, but that probably won't come anytime soon in terms of the price being affordable. Spending more than $400-500 for a monitor seems insane to me.

Prices are crazy nowdays but are they really ? Not so long ago TN panels were (kinda) the only option for gaming, now everyone is going for IPS or VA. Add to that G-Sync and Freesync, HDR, quantum dot and whatnot, that's a lot of improvement in just a few years.

Plus, monitors are supposed to be a long time investment. I've been using my BenQ 144hz for like 4/5 years now, my second monitor a Samsung 16:10 for more than a decade and still rocking.

When i look at some other products (like Smartphone, for example) it doesn't seems THAT expensive to me.

There is a reason a smartphone should be more expensive, there is an insane amount of technology and R&D put into a smartphone compared to a computer monitor. CPU, GPU, RAM, storage, touchscreen, 2 cameras, operating system and other software, wifi and cellular connectivity, GPS, microphones, battery. Also, usually anything that is designed to be smaller costs more money.

I don't think I will every spend over $350 on a monitor, preferably $250.

I would love OLED, but it seems like it is never going to get released. I have been hearing about it for years and hoping it would get released soon, but it never does.

I don't see any purpose for ultrawide other than movies that are in that aspect ratio or someone that likes gaming on that wide of a display and I do not. I watch a lot of movies & tv shows and many of them are 4x3 or 16x9 and I will just get black bars with them then, especially 4x3. The majority of my time on the computer is spent not gaming or watching movies and pretty much everything else I do on the computer vertical space matters more than horizontal, websites are designed to be vertical. For general use I think 16x9 is too wide as well. I think 16x10 is the most usable and best compromise for the most situations.

144 HZ, no contest, your GPU will do just fine and once you go 144 FPS you'll never go back.

I have my old good BenQ XL2411Z 1080p/144hz and it's perfect, although I wouldn't mind upgrading to 1440p 144hz+ once those monitors get actually affordable. I paid like $300 for my current one, and that was several good years ago.

If you like FAST fps game like CS GO 144hz will help you.
If you NOT like fast fps game 1440p is better.
