so 2^4=16 characters, to cover a steam key u need like 36 characters

I started to think about Binary but I immediately saw that it could not be possible. So I started working with Morse and when you told me that hint I was sure so I made up a couple of possible Y (and of course one was the correct one). I also read about the animals in pair and started thinking about which were the two pairs but I had to go away for Dinner.

So thanks for the hint. And thanks for the cool puzzle, I really enjoyed it! Wish there were more like that on the forum. See you on your next one, maybe.

I got X and Y right but Z completely stumped me.

Okay here is the solution:

X was written using Linear B (the "alphabet" of for Mycenaean Greek)
Y was in Morse code
Z was in binary. Owl+Bat=0 (both can fly, both nocturnal); Cow+Sheep=1 (both farm animals, both day active)

The bold bits in Y and the capital or little letters in Z were a clever touch, it's pretty counter intuitive to throw information away.
