I purchased some games from the Steam Summer sale for gifts and giveaways, but have not purchased some of the games for myself due to my heavy backlog and problem getting a gaming computer at my current location. (Currently using HP laptop.)

Anyway, if I win a giveaway in which I already have a gift in my inventory, do the rules allow me to receive it? I scanned through the sticky but didn't see anything regarding this.

Thanks. Here's your GiveAway!!

If you have problems with your backlog and computer, why do you want to enter for games you can't play?

Anyway, to answer your question, there's no rules against that:

I am studying abroad in Thailand, and the good PC's sell out pretty quickly. I am on a waiting list to get it within the next two months, and I'll play it then.

As far as backlogs, I've given 3 dozen games away, and most (if not all) have had a large backlog. So I'm no different. And I've purchased almost half outside of bundles.

While some users dislike gifting to a person with it in their inventory, there are no rules against doing so. Many users will buy a game they want just to giveaway.

I've given away some games months ago that I still don't own for myself :)

"Many users will buy a game they want just to giveaway".

Well, that's true. I made a giveaway with Castlevania: Lords Of Shadow some time ago, and is the number 1 in my wishlist. And I did the same with a few others games too ^_^

You can. There are a lot of reasons why you can have a game in your inventory and not be able to play it. I currently have some games in my inventory that I'm waiting to send to a friend when he arrives from vacation, as a surprise. They are not mine to play, so I should be able to win them for myself.

There is no rule against it. Some people find it questionable that you would enter for a game you already have in inventory, but as others have mentioned, there could be a number of reason why you have the gift copy in the first place.

Wouldn't you technically have ownership of a game if it was in your inventory, even if it was intended to be a gift?
