I'm watching some gameplays of that game FTL: Faster Than Light and looks like a great game. No doubt that I would like that game.

The main question is: Should I buy it full-price (10.00)? I don't think that price is expensive, but with all those indie bundles, steam sales and IGN Primes, I fell like I'll get "ripped-off" to pay full price.

When i was a young grasshopper on Steam, my first 2 games where Braid and Portal 1, both at full price. Few days later a summer sale started and they got 75% off. I didn't regret because I did not know how steam saled worked at that time, but I swore to never buy anything at full price again.

I do have lots of unplayed games that could keep me busy, but I really want to try FTL.

Do you guys think I should break the golden rule and buy it or should I wait some sale/bundle?

EDIT: Thanks for all the feedback. Since my problem wasn't about money, but if I should wait for a sale, I ended up buying it full price at the developer website (10.00), with Steam Key and DRM Free. Thanks again to all!

I'm hijacking to say:

  1. Andarus you're a rally coolguy and i hope we can have more of your opinions as they are so introspective and though provoking
  2. I'm a bit like you OP and am quite cheap, but when I saw FTL I felt like I had to insta-buy and I do not regret. It's refreshing and totally worth the money (i've sunk far more hours into it than AAA titles that cost 4 times the amount)

I too never buy games new, aside from the occasional AAA release I'm really excited for. However, upon seeing this, I decided to get it anyways. I've already gotten over 15 hours out of it, and especially with mods, I'm sure I'll get far more. To anyone else thinking about it--Go for it. Just be warned, you will die. A lot.

If you are cheap, then you can't buy it full price and have to wait for a sale. If you are not cheap, then you can.

To be honest, devs are being ripped if you don't buy it full price, or at least that is the case with indie developers. If you really seem to like the game, just go for it.

Yeah, that's a nice point, supporting the developer could lead to more content to the game or even a DLC. The DLC for Binding of Issac was really cheap and got me playing for many, many hours.

I'm pretty sure Steam pays full price to the developers even during sales, otherwise there wouldn't be so many sales. The devs would simply disagree. Sorry if I'm wrong.

I mean ripping off with bundles. You get those games at a ridiculous price, and they sure as hell won't get full price for those copies. I'd first buy the game I want full price, then proceed to support them more with charity included. Charity only is still a sort of ripoff for devs, even if it is for a good cause. And you can believe me that most purchasers aren't in for the charity part. They just want cheap gaimz.

They don't put bread on the developer's table to feed it's family.

Before I write this don't get me wrong, I love FTL.
However, don't gripe about the devs being poor, as they got $200,000.00 or so for their kickstarter, and still didn't hire anyone to help with FTL or anything. Meanwhile, Muse makes Guns of Icarus Online after getting $30,000.00 ish on their kickstarter, with way more advanced graphics a whole dev team etc etc. All around GoI:O is a better game in my opinion, and these devs actually need money. The FTL devs are two people who sit on a quarter million dollars to make a flash game.

And it is REALLY worth it.

FTL is awesome. I'm glad I payed full price now just to support the guy and make further games a possibility. I'm cheap in general, but there are a few indie devs I don't mind shelling $$$ out to feed so they can make more games.

I'd wait since I am cheap like you. I do buy some games at full price, but I wouldn't get FTL, mainly because the genre doesn't really pertain to my tastes. I'm only going to get it because I heard that it was a good game, but people said the same for Dungeons of Dremore and I hated that game...

FTL is great. I don't remember any great games, that were on a big sale soon after release. It certainly won't appear on any bundle nearest year. and it will definitely be discounted once... but that would be a wait... Portal and Braid and rather old, so they are often on sale. That is not true for new games.. at least for some time.
Well, it might probbably get some 50% discount on Cristmas sale. but would those 3 month be worth $5?

I love it. I bought it at the -10% price at release and don't regret it. It's one of the few games I keep playing from my collection... still backlogged for a bit.

Never bought a game to its full price. I wont never start. Even for a must buy. Always buy at -75%.only dead island and left 4 dead bundle at -50%. Left for dead was the reason for create a steam account.

i bought it when it was 10% off (so $9) when it first came on steam. note you can buy it at ftlgame.com for one cent more and get drm-free downloads as well as a steam key. anyway, i figure paying full price gets you access to the game now instead of whenever it's in a bundle or is 75% off. so if you would actually play it right away, i say it's worth it -- it was for me!

If it's on sale right now or part of a bundle get it there. If you think you'd really enjoy it, spend $10. I got PvZ a few days after it came out for $10 after I played the demo/flash version. Never regretted it once.
