Hey guys, my nephew of 7 years old is visiting for the school holidays, and he loves him some video games. Thing is, I don't have a lot of kid-friendly games, so I'm asking for some suggestions. He likes games with spells/magic/fantasy elements to them and doesn't require a lot of buttons or combos. Think along the lines of Harry Potter and the Lego counterparts, also been playing a lot of Smite, it's simple enough for him (with auto buy enabled). Thanks in advance!

Im sure youve looked into it, but would Minecraft be something he would like? Im not too sure on other kid-friendly fantasyish games though...

Edit: Nevermind. Thought of one maybe. Would Torchlight work for him?

Magicka perhaps? It has combos but you can just have fun with it and mix-match, don't strictly need to optimize it.

Tried it before last year, he kept electrocuting himself, hehe. Maybe he'll understand the concept better this time, will give it another look

I read "name" instead of "game". Darn :(

Waiting until he turns 7 to finally name him would bring forth much bigger issues than choosing a game xD

Well... I know a couple who did that.

And my nephew enjoyed Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons. We played it together and it was real fun even for me. The game is pretty short though.

I'll look into some of them, Portal might be a liiittle bit too dificult for him :P he's played Minecraft before, but he has an intense fear of zombies, even the Minecraft ones give him nightmares >.<

You can change the difficulty of the game, or download a mod that removes mods perhaps?

We have a very child friendly game:, recently Greenlit but not yet released. A free demo is available here : http://karmington.itch.io/kumoon ( though it isnt magic themed )

I'll give the demo a try, thanks. Gotta keep his brain a little active away from school, too :P

Feedback appreciated if you have had time to try it out. We have not done much actual live playtests with kids.

Fable and Overlord come to mind. But you might have to help for some of the puzzles in Overlord.
Also, Shrek 2.

I like names like Kain, Jon. Anything with N in it is good :D

How about Blocks That Matter? If he likes it, there's also the sequel, Tetrobot and Co.

Sonic All-Star Racing
Castle Crashers
Scribblenauts
Lego (anything)
Minecraft (CRAFTING mode, where the zombies don't kill you - much less scary!)
Toki Tori franchise
Bejeweled / Peggle
Triple Town
Letter Quest

+1 as well, especially for Sonic All Star Racing, Minecraft, and Castle Crashers. Those are some of my (5 year old, very video game savvy) nephew's favorites. Another one of his go-to games when he visits is Awesomenauts. He doesn't quite get the whole creeps and MOBA aspects fully but he likes the art and the characters and does ok at it. He also really likes Crazy Taxi (from the Dreamcast Collection).

Marvel Heroes 2015 is an option as well. It is Diablo-esqe with super heroes and he can play all the characters to lvl 10 to try them and unlock one he wants to keep playing. You can try him out on the ARPG style games but won't have to pay anything if it doesn't go well. It is also more cartoony and less dark themed than Diablo in general.

Ori looks nice but it's said to be really hard, that would be a little overkill I guess :|

I'm thinking of Wizard101 that fits perfectly with spells and magic world.

As others suggesed beforehand, Scribblenauts can be a wonderful pick, I think.
Hero of the Kingdom? Not too flashy, but he can help everyone and save the kingdom, kind of :)
Or - you know it best - Zack Zero? Kind of a saturday morning cartoon superhero game ( Robots explode, enemies shatter, not even a single drop of blood)
