What type of internet connection do you guys have?
I kinda find that hard to believe unless you were grandfathered in or possibly got benefits for working with said company to make it cheap.
Location? Time of Purchase?
Michigan 2013 November 12
Any tidbits on how to make it so that the monthly rate is cheap? Do I have to compare prices of local ISPs to make it so that others would lower to compete?

US Internet is one of the worst among western countries when you consider price-quality ratio ;) I live in Poland, in one of the bigger cities in the country and here 17USD/month is considered a lot for internet alone - you usually pay 15-20USD/mopnth for internet+TV+phone (or 7.5+ USD for internet alone), but then you get much worse internet, and as I don't need TV nor local phone I choose to get more expensive but much better internet connection.

Unlimited 7/0,4 ADSL and unlimited phone calls for 44,90€/month. I could upgrade it to 16/1 for an extra 5,04€/month, but it wouldn't be much better.
Sadly, italian ISPs don't offer ADSL only plans...
No fiber optic option yet where I live, for at least another 2 years...

44,90€/month ? O_o.
I have adsl too. 10/0.5 bandwith + unlimited phone calls on local area. Pay 5$ per month.
On that areas of city, which have fiber ISP's it costs about 6$ for the 100 Mbps symetric channel

Sure, I realise that. Just wondering about price level. So many our people says, that they want to Europe to get Europeinian wages. But they don't care about Europeinian communal payments, taxes and other...
P.S. durind last 2 year our minimal wage fall down from 200$ to 56$ :(

Something to do with Regulating data among the networks. FDA or something or other. I don't know much about the details.
BUT HughesNet has this sucky Fair Access Policy (F.A.P.) where it limits users data. Once it goes to the cap my speeds drop down to 18.0 KBPS cap and can go all the way down to 50 bytes. Depending how intensively I watch videos or download too many games or images.

I never knew Fiber Optic would be so cheap elsewhere....Either local ISP's are really taking advantage of Rural living folk or I just haven't found the right ISP that really caters to the Consumers demands.
$17 for Fiber Optic seems like a dream among dreams for me as what Midwest Connections is offering me in Michigan via this site www.teamfiber.com
My area is second on the list thus far but only one more Zone can be lit up this year and I doubt I will get my Zone brought up in time.
If I am lucky they would do both but....I ain't holding my breath.
Oh and the plan I think would be $99.99 for non-symmetrical 100 Download/25 Upload. At least that what I find best relatively cheaper then Satellite and more effective for my streaming.

Sadly living in a rural area I am forced to use Satellite. I am aiming to get Fiber Optic but the company offering it is telling me to spread the word about it. (actually more like passing them out like a sales person. I wonder why other ISP's HughesNet can have their ads thrown about? Like advertising Falsified speeds?) and I don't have anyone nearby where I live. Social Media is one other thing
If curious. HughesNet is my provider and I pay about $150 a month for 65 Gig bandwidth limit (Pro Plan + extras 15 gigs during 8:01am to 1:59 am, 50 during 2 am to 8am) Yes I am getting hosed. But what else can I do? Midwest Connections isn't going to bring Fiber Optic til 2017 and no other ISP is available..
