POST UPDATED.

Bullshit

This is the list of countries where you can play the game if you buy it from South America. HOWEVER, PLOT TWIST, unlike your usual region and trading restriction we don't actually get lower prices. The only country from the list with lower prices is Brazil and it seems like Konami took the usual route of big companies where "Brazil = South America as a whole" and blocked the rest of us as well.

I already contacted Konami via twitter and facebook (Including their MGR facebook page) but I don't really expect anything to get fixed or to change at all. I do know from which company to NEVER wait for their games ever again though. All my hype about this game is gone now, thank you Konami!

Gamehub thread

Thread at NeoGAF discussing the regional lock system.. At least read the very first post please.

Also stop mentioning GFWL games that are not on your steam store. That's another issue completely irrelevant to this. We're talking about a NEW restriction for steam games you're allowed to buy.

Wanna bother Konami about this? Do it here and feel free to post any extra links where we can bother them about this.

I don't quite get it, we're already being shafted with US prices and now we can't even trade it? I was actually tempted to get myself a copy (i simply cannot play it on the xbox 360, i don't know exactly why), but when i read that it was a bit put down.

Just want to let people know that Nuuvem is a Brazilian store. They're selling region locked keys (There's a warning at the left informing you of that). Amazon is still the best option for people who don't want a region locked key, as they're an American store so they're most likely to sell keys without any locking.

Finally, games with different pricing policy should be region locked! Looking forward to see more of this.

Yeah I personally don't mind. I saved a lot of money thanks to Russians but I still think that it's fine to lock games with lower prices. I just hate how the game's locked in South America when we don't have a different price at all.

You say that if the game would be region locked for brazil only it would be better?
if someone lives in Brazil and at some point will want to move for example to Argentina cos s/he found better job there or something like that. S/he will end up with useless game if the region lock was for 1 country only.
And yes if this person would like to move for example to USA the problem wopuld be the same. But i think it is far more likely that if someone will move to another country it will be on the same continent.
You're just saying screw brazilians who want to move abroad to their neighbour countries.

I just replied to chairmankao saying that his idea of trade-locked only gifts is actually a better idea than the region lock so you're right about wanting cheaper games without the region lock. I'm just too used to the Russian system where some really cheap games are region locked.

Why are you thanking Russians? You should be thanking the pubs/devs for setting lower prices for some regions. Those Russians are already taking their profits from you and there's no need to thank them, at all.

If anything, they should be thanking buyers for giving them profits.

No, I don't think they should be region-locked, but I do think they should be restricted from trading / gifting. The reason I don't they should be region-locked is that some people move around a lot. If / when I move out of China, I'm concerned that a number of my games become uninstallable if I move to Europe or the US.

You know, now that I think about it, your idea is quite better. While people who move from country to country can actually contact support for them to flag their account so they're able to bypass the region lock, it's still a lot of work to do for such thing.

Oh, I didn't know you could do that. Awesome. I'm less worried now. Thanks.

Yeah, it's the thing people who travel a lot due to work do. They may ask for a lot of info but you can eventually get your account flagged and avoid problems like when you try to buy from different countries in a short span of time for example.

if you just disable trading/gifting they will still have problem with 3rd party key resellers. I don't see a prolem with region lock if it would stay the same as it was at the begining - that it applied ONLY on activation not every time you start a game

The new system was set just to prevent steam gifting and trading (I'm sure this was implemented due to some very powerful publishers pushing for this kind of locking and Valve had to eventually subside and create this new system). They're not really trying to fight against key resellers. Besides the main problem is still the fact that the copies bought from SA are region locked even though they have no price reduction at all.

Why should they have price reduction?
Price reduction applies region locking, but not the other way around

That's the main reason behind region and trading locking, so people from a country with a cheaper price can't send the games to people from a country with a higher price.

You cannot accept the game to be region locked just because publisher said so. They own the game, they can do anything they want with it. And the game is not cut in any way so you could demand cheaper price. For most users it would work just as region free version would - not inferior in any way. Half of the poeple will not even notice they have a region locked game, the rest will either not travel across seas and will run it as for anyone else or they will lose interest in this game and won't care anymore.
If you want to protest against something you could invest your time in subjects like children labour or saving rainforests. Those issues are far more bigger than some region lock.

You could've done the same, instead of wasting your time discussing on the internet, you could go outside and save the children in Africa, or become the president of your country and dramatically improve the life quality with your leadership. That's not how things work like. You can't just send me to do charity or try to save the world when we're in a damn forum about steam games. That's a very stupid way to reply to an argument.

Is not like I put a LOT of effort anyway. I already presented my complains and the rest depends of the South American community. I actually expect all of this to fall on deaf ears but I am at least spreading the awareness of what's going on, which is a total discrimination of one entire continent.

I don't care about the people who wont notice the region block just like you don't care about things that don't affect you, like this region locking.

It's their game, yes of course. Does that mean we should willingly accept this kind of moves without saying a word or complain about it? Fuck no. As a company you're supposed to respect your customers, not treat them like third rate consumers just because they don't live in the USA or Europe.

This particular flavor of the system may be new but the situation you are describing is nothing new. Someone mentioned Baltic states earlier, similar thing also often goes for Ukraine where they get CIS-locked games but prices are in dollars and sometimes aren't lowered compared to US prices because.. who dafuq knows why (mostly they are being lowered to be comparable with Russian prices, but not always and a friend tells me it feels sort of random as to why).

It's still better than what was is happening for example with Dishonored for over a year. In Poland its price is exactly the same as the rest of the European Union, which actually isn't all that surprising, but it is actually NOT GIFTABLE AT ALL even to folks in the same region. And there are other games like that. Compared to that this system is actually an improvement and I'm sure was introduced specifically not to make something like that to happen (i.e. a game being not giftable at all even in your own region). Bethesda really sucks with that regard, or more specifically 1C publishing group I guess that creates this silly RHCP region.

Zolwiciel mentioned earlier "welcome to the real world" and I have to concur. You are particularly angry because it seems something like that happened to you specifically for the first time, but it's not like the idea of having high price and still being region locked is new. Heck even some games are locked to North America and certainly not because of their low, low price.

But sure, I certainly wish you your crusade to be successful.

I wasn't aware of the Baltic states situation until that person posted here and I agree, it sucks a lot. I was aware of the whole Bethesda deal. Their prices are stupid, really stupid over there. I really feel bad for the people who can't afford the stupidly high price and sometimes makes me wonder why nobody does anything about that.

It is also true that the new system is an improvement when it comes to gifting. The issue here is that until now only a few countries from a continent or specific region would have this issue where the game is region locked yet the price is the same than a ROW copy (I heard about Ukraine having this issue many times indeed) but now, with the debut of the new locking system, Konami decided to fuck up an entire continent with this retarded trade and region locking.

This is far more massive than any of the previous locks and it makes no sense because only ONE of the 20 countries has a lower price. That's the main difference between what happens near Russia and what happens around here. It really leaves a bad precedence for an entire continent, if not the rest of the world except NA and Europe.

I wanted to buy the new Thief game on Steam, it costs 50 USD here on Chile which I assume is the same price as USA, but surprise surprise, the damn game is region locked too, 50 bucks full price and region locked for South America only, isn't that lovely?

Pretty much all games from Jpn publishers are blocked here in China, and we pay full USD prices on Steam store.

just don't buy konami games at full price. They'll soon learn that region lock = less profit since you are shoving out traders out of equation

IDK why people suddenly felt the urge to bump this thread... AGAIN, but I'll just inform the people that the store now says that copies bought in South America can only be ADDED to your library if you're in SA. They actually fixed the store description and is now clear that the game is indeed not region locked when it comes to being able to launch the game.

Yeah, all of us from SA except Brazil still pay the same as USA so dunno why we're still trade-locked but I can at least play the game anywhere I want (Except I got a ROW copy from a retailer so it doesn't matter to me tbh).
