Would you pay $100 for this Alarm Clock
I saw that earlier. Guess they'll just have to sue everyone who plays a Nintendo game pass what they currently support, or people with art or tattoos of characters. 🤣

Oh absolutely. It's only a wishful joke, but at this point nothing Nintendo does legally surprises me.

Agree.
Nintendo company is really stuck in the past, and that shows in this product release...
But as far as there are idiots buying it they will keep the business model like that.

In Feb 2014 I bought one of those water-powered digital clocks. With alarm. I don't remember, ten bucks or less. Instructions said to change water every 2 weeks. However, curious, I didn't change the water to see how much it lasted.
October 2024, the clock is still going, never changing the water. The water has particles and flakes and a strange aspect. But the clock only gets dimmer LCD when I'm changing hour or setting an alarm. Ten years, zero recharge. Beats that Alarmo by too much. OP water clock.
I can set my phone to play different videos as alarm, but I don't care.

The water is not rotten, tho it looks very strange. But it's not stagnant or anything. These clocks work with little, little electricity. Maybe you've seen a digital clock working with the electricity of a potato. The principle is the same, using other means. I've also seen a complete grove of apple trees illuminated by night just connecting the apples of the trees in a network to feed the lamps.
So, water clocks. IIRC is an anode and catode made of two different metals, zinc and copper if I'm not mistaken, where the charge potential of the metals are also different. Water has minerals that act as conductors between these different charges, changing their own chemistry. With time, the minerals crystalize, and that's what I see in my water. It's been closed for 10 years, I doubt any microorganisms (even anaerobic) are there anymore. Not even extremophiles who can survive from non-organic chemical reactions.
It's not for being pedantic, but that "rotten" word gave me an excuse to explain how it works.
There are also other kind of water clocks. They're mechanisms which work with water moving down by gravity. The energy must be replenished by moving the water from the bottom to the top container. These are ancient stuff, I mean in the time of romans and greeks.
Here, have an aspiring for the headache I've given to you. And a cookie for reading it all. You read it all, right?
P.s.: for those who know what they are, I always wanted a chemical garden. I wonder if there are any kits in Amazon.

Ah, a water potato clock. I thought it was a gravity-based device. I'm more or less familiar with the idea (I'm an electrical engineer, so I'm no stranger to chemistry, through I don't work with it and now I'm in law), but I didn't know people made clocks in that style. That said, I couldn't miss an opportunity to crack that joke, now could I? :D
And yes, I did read it all, but I didn't get a headache. :)

I never even knew such clocks existed is it keeping accurate time still?
Comment has been collapsed.
Well, during summer, if weather is hot, it can go ahead one minute or two. This summer it kept exact. Same with winter if it's too cold, 1-2 minutes behind. But again, last summer was not too cold, so it kept exact.
Thus this year when I change time for daylight savings, I will not make any minute adjustment as in the past. But no, climate change is a conspiracy from the anti-progress groups who want us to go back to stone age.
Read my answer above to know how these work.

Oh my bad sorry, hah. That's not the first time that's happened to me on the internet. My sarcasm detector is a little defective sometimes. That's a big relief though lol, super glad that you accept the science :).

It's like the first, but orange. The 2nd one also has temperature and day of week displays, tho I find the price outrageous.
I think a company in Shenzhen does these clocks and sells them to other companies which brand them. Mine is Wiki, but I do remember the same clock with different brands and prices. Also the same when I bought my wood light clock.

I absolutely love it as a device. Especially the dynamic audio whilst waking up. I have zero idea about Zelda, Mario or any of the Nintendo crap, so I wouldn't mind a vanilla version of this.
Heck I can't wait to see what the modders, jailbreakers can make this clock do!! Perhaps modify the music, remove telemetry, automation, who knows what else🤩

Certainly sad that people are in positions where they would require this, but if it helps people feel less depressed and perhaps even to save their lives, it's a great thing.
The concept reminds me a bit of Joi from Blade Runner 2049. Of course, that's far more advanced, but you can see how that would be a further step of pretty much the same idea.

I mean, it's cute and not a terrible idea, but definitely not for $100. I'd've bought it for $30-40, maybe up to $50 if it reviews well, but definitely not for $100 + tax/shipping presumably.
I feel like this is the type of thing catered to YouTubers to buy it, make a video saying how cool it is then never talk about it again.

hahaha I have the same one from ikea and it works pretty good - way too loud to ignore.. 100$ is crazy for a simple thing

An item is worth whatever someone will pay for it, that's basic economics, You or I may not agree with it but it doesn't change that fact. There's much much worse out there. I mean there are mean that pay women to pee and poop on them or crush their man parts. There are plenty of other $100+ alarm clocks out there anyway.

There is no way ill wake up with those slow music sounds. Ill just sleep even further.

Neat device in theory but besides the high price my main issue with this being a Nintendo product is that it will surely be locked to hell and back, if it was made by some other company there would be some hope of getting access to the software for better customization, and asking to be subscribed to their online service just to be able to order the thing is kinda insulting, it's just an alarm clock.
Also, is it just me or does anyone else thinks that an alarm clock playing a little fanfare when you get out of bed is aggressively condescending? It's like a parent saying "oh, you're finally awake".

I don't think it is for everyone.
People are different. Some don't even need an alarm to get up. Some hear their alarm, turn it off and get up in an instant.
Some wake up tired and groggy inspite of having 5 alarms set up consecutively, yet ignoring all of them.
This alarm could prove useful, attuning to them with its motion tracking and to give a sense of victory in just getting out of bed. So why not.

I guess, I'm the kinda person that always wakes up in a bad mood when there's an alarm involved so to me the last thing I want is for the thing to make any further noise. But I'll admit of being aware of the existence of people who aren't grumpy when waking up, weirdos.

My phone is my alarm clock. It did cost more than $100. :)

I wonder how many patents have they made for the clock, but I also wonder how many look-a-like will appear within weeks. Customizable, make your own animations with music with our helper app for Windows and Android, upload to the clock, program behaviour... For less than half the price.

Having the characters running around on the screen is neat, not worth £100. Recording how much people move in their sleep sounds like a fun gimmick, but most people are going to look at it once and never again. The video game noises will probably do a good job at waking people up, but it seems far too obnoxious.
There is certainly potential, like having a characters greet you in the morning and using the motion sensor to have you follow along with some basic morning exercises.
