Why does this have to be a single word? What the hell is so hard about saying "I play video games", or "I like video games"? It sounds so much better, to just about everyone.
Basically whenever someone says "I'm a gamer", it typically connotes a plethora of mostly negative stereotypes to people that aren't part of the made-up in-group that call themselves "gamers".
