DO NOT POST THE ANSWERS IN THIS THREAD

Use them to complete the following link: http://www.steamgifts.com/giveaway/XX#Xx

1) On date 49827.5, a new reinforcement left San Francisco yards. We all know her name, but what was the code letter?

2) She may have been born amidst balsa trees, but her ambitions were high. For 101 days, she journeyed under Thor's mighty hand without a sign of cowardice.

3) Lady Iowa is a shapely and magnificent sight to behold, but woe betide those who would mention her broad side -- 16 inches of wrath would fall upon them, and not just once. For how many such strikes do you have to be prepared?

4) On the 14/15 April, an impressive lady died in the cold Atlantic waters. She had an older sister that survived her, however. Who was that sister?

5) This is where you can decide whether to turn to port or to starboard, where you decide the fate of your crew with a single turning of the wheel. Even if flames and waters engulf the whole bridge, the cap'n must stand there, firm as an age-old reef.

The giveaway ends in 6 days. If you can't figure out what game it is for, you probably won't solve the puzzle anyway. Good luck!

You, sir, are hereby banned from all my giveaways that happen to have the PE4Is code. That, or walking the plank.

How planky is it?

I'd say quite planky. Atleast 20% plankier than most planks.

It needs to be plankier.

If you are reasonably sure you got everything (preferably with some sort of explanation), just contact me and I'll see what I can do. No free hints, though. ;-)

How do I contact you? Because I found this again and decided to try... again. Pretty sure I have the right answers... again. :(

Via Steam, preferably. Add me as a friend, or send a chat request. (I can't guarantee when exactly I'll be online, though.)

Nice one! Enjoyed it and wasn't too hard. The last one was kinda difficult for a non-nativ, though.

(I'm not a native speaker either. ;-) But yes, I understand it could be a bit misleading. Therefore, a minor hint for #5: be specific.)

Make sure you have the correct upper / lower case letter
X = upper case
x = lower case

I'm new to this, but how do you get the letter/number from a name?

First letter

(Not necessarily, but unless something else is stated (or hinted at), taking the first letter is a common way.)

As English is not my mother tongue I wanted to ask a question about the first question ;D
Does "code-letter" mean the first letter or is it some sort of significant letter belonging to a word?

thx for answering ;)

It's the significant letter; the one that sets the thing I'm talking about apart from others.

This is one of the most clever puzzles I ever seen on these forums, regardless, I can't find the damn last letter, and brute-forcing leads to nowhere :(

Nah, joking. Let me bump the thread anyway.

  1. Enterprise-E ~ Source
  2. Kon-Tiki / Kon-Tiki ~ Source
  3. 9 × 16" cannons onboard the USS Iowa ~ Source
  4. RMS Olympic ~ Source
  5. Weelhouse / Pilothouse / Bridge ~ Source

So, can I blame Wikipedia - or is the dumbass I see reflected in my monitor the real problem?

Just wanted to say I really enjoyed this puzzle for one solid reason - I discovered new stuff in mechanical engineering. I am not a specialist in Naval/Ocean engineering, but I still found this information both interesting and useful. Thank you! :)
