How many DLCs will you need for a full game?
I've just briefly looked at a video to see what's new and it seems a totally different game to me, with maybe real-time action combat, and the DLCs are getting more disgusting as time goes by (generally speaking, and using them to split games into episodes when they originally weren't, is even worse).
More stuff to pirate, or just play the original one the way it's supposed to be. It didn't even have that great of a story to begin with, it was just the whole of it making the experience so fascinating, and because at the time it was released it was a pretty new way of doing JRPGs. Recreating it from zero would make it a different experience, so different that it would not be able to replace the classic one, but it's just another way to milk money from the new generation of gamers.

I don't mind that they are splitting a 40+ hours game into muliple episodes as long as this doesn't increase the total price of the game. This way the quality of the later chapters should only increase, since they get plenty of feedback from the community and have enough time to fix bugs / balancing issues of the first episodes.

When they originally announced it I figured it was going to be at least broken up into 3 games sort of like the game was broken up into 3 disks on the PS2.

I meant episodic in the sense that the stories are always chopped into individual chapters. FFIX and on even called them that. In the PSX era, the disc change made it a requirement; after that, it was just a better artistic tool than the old ones.
With some luck, the remake comes in 3 or 6 episodes to be similar as the 3-disk structure of the original.
Then again, I also hope that they redo the entire story from zero, only keeping some key elements in it. If we take off the nostalgia goggles, the writing of FFVII was pretty damn bad and the plot often deliberately derailed more than in most any FF game before or since. It was a PSX hardware showcase. (To a degree, FFVIII had the same issue.)

Yea I have a lot of concerns with the remake. The battle system being changed so dramatically being the biggest one. I like turn based combat and feel it ages much better then action based (though I do think any game with random battles should have a way to turn them on/off at will).
Aeris/Aerith face also looks weird and wrong to me in some parts of the new trailer, like her face legit creeps me out. Not too surprising though given what Square did to some of the FFX character faces in the HD version.
Ultimately I think they're just going to tarnish the reputation of a classic similar to what they did with that whole 'compilation of FF7' thing they did a few years ago.

Depends, I'd say. I haven't played the original.
Originally it was made as a full game, so I don't know what the potential is for cutting up a full game. Usually the story beats don't align with a classic episodic structure. Odds are you'll have very uneven lengths for episodes or have a very disjointed story.
Mind you, I know Square's creaming their pants at the potential earnings, considering that 3.4 million copies being sold is a failure for them.
Odds are this will go the Hitman route, where it's popular at first, but then loses public interest drastically as time goes on.
Well, regardless, good luck to the consumers. I hope they get the game they want at a price they're happy to pay. Seeing that an episode's going to cost almost as much as a full game, I am a bit skeptical that the consumer will be happy though.

Oh the SALT that will be on the internet when whatever "1" of what they call this comes out...
It's basically DOA

I saw part of the trailer, looks like a massive graphical upgrade, looks good. However, the chars do not look proportionate, maybe its just me too. I have never played a FF game and I merely saw my friend played it on PS2 before. Did not like the game before but I am probably gonna try FF7 as the 1st FF into the series.
As we know, Capcom did a RE: 2 remake too recently and its very successful as far as I know. While this had not been released, I am already wonky about it as it seems they are just gonna milk it and since you're trying to milk what is stated as the best FF in the series you gonna milk it to the bones with 10+ DLCs. Just like EU:IV, its gonna revolutionize the FF with the forever never ending DLCs! XD
I personally do not think there's a need to split the game in parts with today's Tech. Although personally, I will prefer them to do it right the way Capcom did but SE does not seem to win fans as much had done recently.

Well, it was planned for 3 episodes back in 2017, maybe even earlier when the game was first announced in 2015. So this is not news.

Read this yesterday before bed and was disappointing. I know they made it separately before but do we really need it to be like that again. I still want to play the original before I even touch the remake but it would be annoying to have to buy it in pieces. Really will depend on how much they charge. For the above comment I never once saw about the fact that it was originally episodes so it was new for me like it was for you. Frankly back in 2017 I was still seeing news of the fact it's a giant rumor and that it might be a thing but might not

Instead of a full game you get 1 episode and you need to buy next episodes as a DLCs.
What do you think about it?
