I’ve been itching for a new decent visual novel to play, that isn’t just boobies. That being said, I sure don’t mind boobies, but I’d rather the story be put first before the boobies.

I’ve enjoyed Clannad, Danganronpa 1&2 (waiting til summer sale for v3), nearly all of ebi-hime’s games, School Days, and If My Heart Had Wings, to name a few off the top of my head.

I’m fine with things not listed on steam as well, but I do enjoy keeping all my bought games in one place, but it’s not a requirement.

Any recommendations would be dope!

Ah, I have played this one too, I enjoyed it. I think there's a sequel now, although I haven't heard anyone talk about it too much.

I'm pretty new to visual novels myself, but I loved Doki Doki Literature Club. I'm assuming you've already played it, but if you haven't, don't read up on the plot/stay away from spoilers. :)

Bai Qu deserves more recognition; it's by the same devs as Shan Gui, which you already played, so if you liked that one, this one will definitely be a treat (and you won't be too put off by the artstyle :P )
eden* should do if you want something melancholic
fault one and two would most likely end up getting mentioned here sooner or later, and for a reason
For more famous stuff, five of the Higurashi chapters are on Steam; I'm only on the second one so far, but I doubt the series declined too much (there's Umineko, too, but I can't say anything cause I never read it)
Unhack and its sequel are worth checking out; the first one is a tad amateurish, but has its charm, while the sequel gets a bit darker tone, but not enough to be jarring

Analogue: A Hate Story - great story, interesting game mechanics.

Doki Doki Literature Club - go in blind, have a blast. One of the few to make me laugh repeatedly.

Steins:Gate - good story.

VA-11 Hall-A - interesting premise and setting.

Zero Escape - good story, fun escape the room puzzles, incredibly addictive. Start with The Nonary Games bundle.

The Fruit of Grisaia - good story.

Aviary Attorney - mystery, interesting style, well written.

Black Closet - combination of visual novel segments and detective segments. Really good detective game.

Magical Diary - Harry Potter-esque, but in all the best ways (great even for those who don't like Harry Potter). Lots of freedom and paths to take, interesting things to discover.

World End Economica - good story.

Fault - Milestone - good story.

Planetarian - good story.

Narcissu - good story.

Eden* - good story.

The House in Fata Morgana - I haven't played this one yet, but it comes very highly recommended by my friend who loves VNs.

Alright, that should keep you busy for a while. ;)

If you don't mind me linking to an outside source, I've put together a Visual Novel Masterpost precisely for situations like this!

I too dislike tiddygames, and any game with sexual content is tagged as such. Hopefully the other tags can help direct you to games you might be interested in.

For interest of brevity, though, My Favorite Visual Novel of All Time is absolutely the House in Fata Morgana, hands down.

Hatoful Boyfriend. No, really. It's hilarious to start with, but it is one of the best written VNs out there by the time you finish. Even if it wasn't, hey, you're dating pigeons!

Most of my other suggestions have already been listed. XP

It was Hatoful Boyfriend that convinced me that VN can be enjoyable - I only wanted to laugh at the weird idea of birds, but turned out to be a really unique and very appealing game :)

I'm glad to hear! =3 VNs are like any genre; you're going to find good ones and bad ones!

I'm not going to echo what others suggested, as most are pretty solid works, but are my eyes deceiving me in that nobody has suggested the Muv-Luv trilogy yet? :o

Muv-Luv is the first two stories of the trilogy, Extra and Unlimited. Muv-Luv Alternative is the conclusion. Whatever you may say of the sexual content (and of its removal), MLA is the top-rated VN on VNDB for a reason. Of course, there's the fact that ML is... not really MLA-tier, but MLA is really a go-to name when one thinks AAA VNs.

If you like Danganrompa, you need Zero Escape in your life. All three games feature nine people trapped somewhere and forced to play a potentially lethal game. The one I linked is the first two games bundled together, Zero Time Dilemma is the standalone conclusion.

No nudity, just legitimately well-written stories set in the not-too distant future.

Yes. Yes, please play these games. Even easier now that they're on PC.

I wasn't really a fan of ZTD, but the other two games I enjoyed like an addict.

The good ones I've played were already mentioned before, so I just leave a little, unique free one here: Evening Surprise. A bit of mystery, nice storytelling, and fun ending :)

Root Double has a masterfully written story, with hundreds of questions at first and 0 at the end.

I just finished On Earth As It Is In Heaven and found it to be rather nice, despite several problems with typos and characters sometimes not being culled from the scene.

I also very much liked Jouka no Monshou - Emblem of the Sacred Flame, a VN based on the movie Equilibrium, despite some glitches meaning you'd BETTER save extremely frequently in different slots. Otherwise, great art and, I think, great writing. It has been a while though.

If you're into horror and aren't too offput by seemingly-underage boobies, Saya no Uta has got to be one of the stand-out VNs in its genre.

I am not a vn expert myself, but i found Hakouki: Kyoto Winds on your wishlist. Its an otome game, so no boobies, only hot swordsmen with great story and lots of choices afaik. Contra is that the game is part 1 and you need the sequel Hakouki: Edo Blossoms for the whole story as well

one reason i mention it: i am currently giving away one copy of it in the puzzle section (ends in 32 hours) and thought you might be interested (you need 60-90 minutes of time depending on your jigsaw puzzle skills)
