"Nitronic Rush is an experimental survival driving game developed by students at DigiPen Institute of Technology. Using the car’s many abilities (including boost, wings, and jump), avoid obstacles that the city throws at you. In many ways the game is a tribute to racing games of the 1990′s, but with fresh graphics, audio, and gameplay."

I played a bit of it and its really great. It's the kind of game they could charge $5 or even $10 for it.

Made in C++ with no pre-made engine or assets :) Xbox 360 controller works with it out of the box.

http://nitronic-rush.com/ <--- Download it now :D (456 MB)

It wouldnt surprise me if the game would be made available on steam as a free game in the near future (like Alien Swarm or The Cat and the Coup). Not to be confused with free to play games...

Digipen release some great stuff for free, done I suppose by students hoping to get their names out. They also released a game called Igneous a couple years back, which is pretty awesome if short: http://www.igneousgame.com/

EDIT: Narbacular Drop, the game that inspired Portal, also came from their students who I believe were then hired by Valve. Tag (https://www.digipen.edu/studentprojects/tag/) was another project that would later inspire the goo-puzzles in Portal 2.

After playing this game, I have got to say this is one of the funnest racing games I've played in a while. The technologic scenario and awesome soundtrack combined with the awesome maps that throw all sorts of obstacles at you blend to make one damn delicious, action-packed smoothie.

There are a lot of good games made by students at DigiPen.
That's where I'm hoping to go for college. C:
